Phyllis Jolley
Phyllis Jolley, 360 Rexford Drive, Hermitage, died at 11 a.m. Friday (10-11-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 85.

Doc M. Riddle

Retired traffic manager was 1st U.M. Church member

Doc M. Riddle, formerly of Maple Leaf Manor and 29 Quartermile Road, both Hempfield Township, died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township. He was 90.

Mr. Riddle was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Butler County to Frank W. and Maude C. Thompson Riddle.

He was a 1929 graduate of Emlenton (Pa.) High School.

From 1932 to 1940, he worked for Pennzoil Co. in both Emlenton and Greenville. He then worked for Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad in Greenville for 12 years. He retired in 1974 from the former Greenville Tube after 20 years of service as a traffic manager. After retirement, he worked for Andrew H. Osborne III Funeral Home Inc. in Greenville, where he was an assistant.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church; and Free and Accepted Masons Eureka Lodge 290, both Greenville; Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory; and Zem Zem Temple in Erie. He also belonged to American Automobile Association for 60 years; and the American Austin Bantam Car Club.

His wife, the former Lillian Tinker, whom he married on Oct. 30, 1936, preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1982.

Surviving are: one son, Lindell V. Riddle and his wife Deborah Lynn, Mayfield, Ohio; one sister, Georgia Riddle, Hendersonville, Nevada; and two granddaughters, Ann Elizabeth and Deanna Lynn.

Besides his wife, Doc was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons, Leslie Alan and Larry Lee Riddle; two brothers, S. Paul Riddle and Vivian "Cappy" Riddle; and a sister, Florence Wagener.

Kenneth W. Kahl

Church of Good Shepherd member was WWII veteran

Kenneth W. Kahl, 4005 Esther Lane, Hermitage, died at 6:42 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following a short illness. He was 82.

Mr. Kahl was born Aug. 17, 1920, in Sharon to Charles Kahl and Julia Miller Kahl.

He was employed by Allis-Chalmers Corp. in Milwaukee, Wis., where he was field service representative for 35 years, retiring in 1984. Mr. Kahl previously worked for Siemens Energy & Automation, Milwaukee.

He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex; and Veteran of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage.

A Navy veteran, Mr. Kahl served during World War II on submarines in the Pacific.

His wife, the former Carrie E. Smith, whom he married on Feb. 1, 1947, survives at home.

He also leaves: two brothers, Leonard Kahl and Charles Kahl, both Sharon.

Mr. Kahl was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ann Louise Kahl.

William L. Helmbrecht

Metal Crafts ex-president was WWII Air Force vet

William L. Helmbrecht of Hubbard, died Friday morning (10-11-02) in Orange Village Care Center, Masury. He was 80.

Mr. Helmbrecht was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Sharon, a son of Donald P. and Edith Fawcett Helmbrecht.

He was a lifelong area resident and was part owner and president of Metal Crafts, Hubbard, for 36 years, before retiring in 1994.

He was a member of Hubbard (Township) Church of the Nazarene and served as a church board member for 35 years.

Mr. Helmbrecht served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II; volunteered driving the Hubbard Senior Citizens Van; and enjoyed ham radio, computers and swimming.

He leaves: his wife, the former Grace O. Johnson, whom he married June 25, 1941; a son, Bruce Helmbrecht, Great Mills, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Gus (Donna) Vasalakis, Alabama; and two grandchildren.

Joseph P. Ritch

Industrial arts teacher

Joseph P. Ritch of 563 Brookfield Ave., Masury, died at 3:43 p.m. Thursday (10-10-02) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, Ohio, of a heart ailment. He was 56.

Mr. Ritch was born Jan. 12, 1946, in Sharon, the son of Paul J. and Juanita Stauffer Ritch.

He was a graduate of Brookfield High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Kent (Ohio) State University.

Joseph had been employed as an Industrial Arts teacher at Bristol (Ohio) High School for 23 years.

He had attended Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church in Niles, Ohio, and was a member of the Ohio Education Association.

Joseph also enjoyed archery, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include: his aunt and uncle, Anne and James Ritch, Masury; an aunt, Ruth Petras, Masury; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepmother, Freda Ramsey Ritch.
