Alta Evaline Steinhauer Former Sharon woman belonged to Eastern Star LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Alta Evaline Steinhauer, Lake Worth, formerly of Sharon, passed away at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in The Terraces of Lake Worth. She was 89. Mrs. Steinhauer was born July 17, 1913, in Sharon, a daughter of Eugene Quarterson and Beulah Joyce Morrison Quarterson. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 242 in Sharon. Her husband, J. Earl Steinhauer, passed away Dec. 2, 1995. Mrs. Steinhauer is survived by: a daughter, Sally Baker and her husband Wayne; one son, Thomas Elberty and his wife Dorothy; four grandchildren, Nancy Elberty, TJ Elberty and his wife Elaine; Wayne "Chip" Baker Jr.; and Kate Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Eric Elberty. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Steinhauer's memory to Hospice of Palm County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, Fla. 33407.
STEINHAUER Lawrence 'Larry' M. Buccino Jr. '55 FHS grad was longtime Sharon Steel worker Lawrence "Larry" M. Buccino Jr. of Cedar Avenue in Sharon, died at 2:34 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. He was 65. Mr. Buccino was born Jan. 12, 1937, in Farrell to Lorenzo Buccino and Theresa Cione Buccino. A 1955 graduate of Farrell High School, he was employed for 37 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he worked in the transportation and labor department. Mr. Buccino also worked for three years at K-Mart in Hermitage. He was a member and an usher at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Sharon. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus Council 684 in Sharon and coached Little League and Minor League baseball in Sharon. Mr. Buccino enjoyed sports and gardening. His wife, the former Elizabeth Goral, whom he married Sept. 6, 1958, survives at home. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Rosemarie) Moon, Volant; two sons, Lawrence M. Buccino and Anthony E. Buccino, both Sharon; one sister, Jennie R. Buccino, Farrell; one niece, Christine M. Buccino; a sister-in-law, Marie Buccino; and two grandchildren, Jonathan W. Kent, Hermitage; and Joseph M. Kent, Volant. Mr. Buccino was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William J. Buccino.
Mark A. Smolen Sharon High grad retired from Air Force, Army SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- Mark A. Smolen, longtime resident of Sierra Vista, formerly of Sharon, went to be with our Lord at 3:10 a.m. MST on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, in his residence after a courageous battle against cancer. He was 71. Mr. Smolen was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Sharpsville to Francis Smolen, a former Shenango Valley artist; and Mary Anne Barshick Smolen. Courage was not something Mark was short of, having fought in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts while serving in the U.S. Air Force. A Sharon High School graduate, Mark retired from the Air Force having achieved a rank of master sergeant. He then worked for the Army as a civil servant, retiring after 15 years from Fort Huachuca, Ariz. He was a former member of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon. Mark is survived by: his loving wife of 51 years, the former Joyce A. Nichols. They recently celebrated their 51st anniversary Oct. 1, 2002. Mark is also survived by: his six children, Kaye L. McLeod and her husband Michael, Little Rock., Ark.; Mark S. Smolen and his wife Joanne, Austin, Texas; Richard A. Smolen and his wife Olivia, Oak Harbor, Wash.; Randall S. Smolen and his wife Trina, Sierra Vista; Debra A. Murtha, Wixom, Mich.; and Patricia L. Nelson, Sierra Vista; his nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild, all of whom he loved dearly. Mark also leaves his two sisters and three brothers, C. Kurt Smolen, Sierra Vista; Norbert Smolen and his wife Bernie Lou, Brookfield; Gloria Hubicz and her husband Al, Sharon; Raymond Smolen, Cleveland; and Rose Marie Mott and her husband Edward, Boardman, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 2730 E. Cardinal Drive, Sierra Vista, with the Rev. Ben Somerville, pastor, officiating. A reception followed at noon in Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9972 hall, Sierra Vista. Interment will be held in November in Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista. The family respectfully suggests memorial contributions be made in Mark's name to Casa De La Paz Hospice, 300 El Camino Real, Sierra Vista, Ariz. 85635. Dorothy Helena Reeher Hermitage woman was born in Wheatland Dorothy Helena Reeher of 2190 Homewood Ave., Hermitage, died of natural causes at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 79. Mrs. Reeher was the widow of William S. Reeher, who died Jan. 10, 1981. Born Friday, Aug. 24, 1923, in Wheatland, she was the daughter of the late John and Irene Mosely Evans. Dorothy attended Farrell schools. She was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by: a daughter, Jean R., wife of Jack Macom; and a son, Larry, husband of Patti Reeher, all Hermitage; and two granddaughters, Tammy Reeher, also Hermitage; and Kimberly, wife of Andrew Klutcher, Sharpsville. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Reeher was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Evans; and a sister, Marion Rogers. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania, 3524 W. 26th St., Erie 16506-2035.
