Ralph Reed Bell
Well-known bowler worked at Bell Motors, drove truck

Ralph Reed Bell of 319 New Castle Ave., Sharon, died of natural causes at 12:17 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 69.

Born on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1932, in Sharon, Mr. Bell was a son of the late Kenneth L. and Mabel Marshall Bell.

He was employed as a service manager and mechanic for the former Bell Motors in Sharon for 35 years. He had also worked as a truck driver for Joy Cone Co. for nine years and later as an independent truck driver until 1992.

Mr. Bell was a 1950 graduate of Sharon High School and went on to attend Allegheny College in Meadville and Youngstown State University.

He was well-known in local bowling circles.

He is survived by: his former wife, Elaine Bell, Sharon; two daughters, Karen L., wife of Ronald Ardlen; and Lauren S. Bell, all Sharon; a sister, Joanne Bell, Washington, D.C.; four granddaughters, Diana Evans, Sarah Kustelega, Brittany Bell and Kiera Ardlen; a grandson, Mike Fetsko; two great-grandsons, Dillon Maurice and Nicholas Maurice; and three great-granddaughters, Grace Maurice, Kristina Kustelega and Serena Kustelega. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Donations may be made to his family through the funeral home.

Margaret 'Peg' I. Graham

Retired GCC receptionist was active in Tower church

Margaret "Peg" I. Graham, 20 Orchard Drive, Pine Township, formerly of 905 S. Center St., Grove City, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, following a brief illness. She was 86.

Mrs. Graham was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Liberty Township to Joseph Campbell Lightner and Ethel May Nelson Lightner.

A graduate of Grove City High School, she retired in 1987 from Grove City College, where she served as a receptionist for the school's Helen Harker Hall and Mary Ethel Pew dorms. Mrs. Graham was also grandmother of the Gamma Sigma Phi Sorority.

She was a lifetime member of Tower Presbyterian Church in Grove City, where she sang in the church choir. At one time she was very active in the church.

Mrs. Graham was a former member of the Phythian Sisters of Grove City.

Her husband, William Burton Graham, whom she married Aug. 17, 1934, died Jan. 2, 1971.

Surviving are: two daughters, Barbara Lee, wife of Edward L. Royle, Garden Grove, Calif.; and Kay Ellen, wife of Larry "Joe" Cunningham, Mercer; one son, William Alan Graham and his wife Lois Jean, Grove City; three brothers, Howard L. Lightner and his wife, Helen, Grove City; Robert N. Lightner and his wife Louise, Pico Rivera, Calif.; and Joseph C. Lightner Jr. and his wife Gail, Greenville; seven grandchildren, Mitchell A. and Michael G. Graham, Christi L. Beatty, Daniel L. Royle, Gregory G. Cunningham, Janene K. DiSanti and Jill A. McCandless; and nine great-grandchildren, Zachary, Rachel and Joshua Graham; Emily DiSanti; Aubrey and Melissa Graham; Olivia DiSanti; and Logan and Derek McCandless.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Graham was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol Mae Graham; and two brothers, Harold L. and Kenneth E. Lightner.

Alice Marie Hittle
Lifelong Fredonia resident retired from Mellon Bank

Alice Marie Hittle of 23 First St., Fredonia, died at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following a period of failing health. She was 77.

Mrs. Hittle was born May 22, 1925, in Greenville, a daughter of the late Harry and Marie Chew Hays.

On July 14, 1943, she married Leo "Bus" Hittle, who survives. Alice was a lifelong resident of the Fredonia area.

Mrs. Hittle retired in 1984 from the Fredonia office of Mellon Bank.

She and Leo enjoyed spending their winters in Winter Haven, Fla. Alice's greatest joy was spending time with family.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Delaware Township.

She is survived by: her husband; four sons, Donald Hittle and his companion, Linda Dille, Conneaut Lake; Paul Hittle, Cadillac, Mich.; James Hittle and his companion, Patricia Schrock, Fredonia; and William Hittle and his wife Patricia, Mercer; one brother, H. Richard Hays, Spartansburg; and nine grandchildren, Lisa Guidace and her husband Frank, Pamela Reagle and her husband Chuck, Michael Hittle and his wife Tracy, James Hittle Jr., Tracey Gregor and her husband Paul, Donald Hittle Jr., Jennifer Hittle, Thomas Hittle and Keith Hittle. Nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Ryan David Hittle.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 10 Beil Hill Road, Greenville 16125.

Joseph D. Rupert

Hermitage man was

Seabee, retired carpenter

Joseph D. Rupert, 505 Koonce Road, Hermitage, died of natural causes at 1:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, following a brief illness. He was 78.

Mr. Rupert was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Farrell, a son of Michael Rupert and Lucille Serjak Rupert.

A 1942 graduate of Farrell High School, he was a carpenter for W.B. Gibson Co. in Warren, Ohio, for 38 years, retiring in 1978.

Mr. Rupert was a member of Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage.

A Navy veteran, he served in the Seabees.

His wife, the former Carmella M. Alter, whom he married Sept. 20, 1952 in St. Anthony's Church in Sharon, survives at home.

Also surviving are: a son, Mark Rupert, husband of Lynn, Sharon; a daughter, Tamara Stinedurf, wife of William, Red Oak, Texas; two brothers, Michael Rupert, Laurel, Md.; and Henry Rupert, Plymouth, Mich.; one sister, Suzanne Rupert, Farrell; two grandsons, Mark Rupert Jr. and Joshua Stinedurf; one granddaughter, Jessica Braggs; and four great-grandchildren, Paige Rupert, Brody Braggs, Dustin Braggs and Nicola Stinedurf.

Mr. Rupert was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lt. Martin Rupert, member of the U.S. Army Air Force, who was killed in action in Belgium during World War II; and two sisters, Elizabeth Rupert and Antoinette Schultz.

Louis Frank Benish III

'82 Commodore Perry grad lived here, worked in Ohio

Louis Frank Benish III, 380 Brooklyn St., Sharon, died at 10:02 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following an extended illness. He was 38.

Mr. Benish was born Sept., 14, 1964, in Sewickley, Pa., to Louis Frank Benish Jr. and Addie Lou Cals Benish.

He graduated in 1982 from Commodore Perry High School in Sheakleyville and in 1984 from Duff's Business School in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Benish worked for McCall Shipping, where he ran supplies to oil rigs. As a crane operator, he worked for ADT Steel Mill, with his last position served at Geneva Steel, both Ohio.

Mr. Benish was a member of Mooncrest Baptist Church in Coraopolis, Pa.

He served in the Navy and loved to fish, hunt and bowl.

Surviving are: his mother, Sharon; three sisters, Mrs. James (Debra) Burton, Surfside Beach, S.C.; Mrs. Thomas (Yvonne) Gogarty, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Mrs. Robert (Candice) Walker, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Russell Benish and his wife Eileen, Auburn, Calif.; and David Benish, Ocean View, Va.; and two nieces and three nephews.

Mr. Benish was preceded in death by his father.

Dorothy A. Chadwick

Meals, hospital volunteer served in church, UMW

Dorothy A. Chadwick, Fairview Township, formerly of 5 Woodbine Drive, Hempfield Township, died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Fairview (Township) Manor. She was 90.

Mrs. Chadwick was born June 28, 1912, in Pittsburgh to James H. Ackley and Isabelle Voss Ackley.

She was a graduate of Dormont High School in Pittsburgh.

As a member of First United Methodist Church in Greenville, Mrs. Chadwick belonged to the church choir and advisory board. She was a past president and charter member of the United Methodist Women of Greenville and also served as past District president of the United Methodist Women of Western Pennsylvania. She was a member of Church Women United.

Mrs. Chadwick was one of the founders and the day chairman of the Meals-on-Wheels program in Greenville. She was also a volunteer at the former Greenville Regional Hospital for more than 20 years and belonged to the Joaquin Club, Greenville.

Her husband, James Chadwick, whom she married Sept. 16, 1939, died March 17, 1981.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Ruth) Brown, Conneaut, Ohio; and Janet Nelson, wife of Fred Nelson Jr., Erie; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Chadwick was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, James and John Ackley.

Michael Dubovitch
Former GATX worker

attended Sharon schools

Michael Dubovitch, New Wilmington, formerly of 120 Superior St., Hermitage, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Thursday (10-24-02) in The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington, following an extended illness. He was 87.

Mr. Dubovitch was born April 29, 1915, in Sharon, a son of John Dubovitch and Mary Milan Dubovitch.

He attended Sharon schools and worked at General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant.

Mr. Dubovitch was baptized and at one time was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hermitage.

A brother, Paul Dubovitch, survives in Gardenia, Calif.
    Michael was preceded in death by his parents and twin sisters, Mary and Mildred Dubovitch.

Philip Lee McQueen
Former WM man worked in trucking, landscaping

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Philip Lee McQueen of 606 Glenwood Drive, Ephrata, Pa., formerly of West Middlesex, died at 12:10 p.m. Oct. 24, 2002, in Moses Cone Hospital after having resided with his daughter, Amy McQueen, during his illness. He was 59.

Mr. McQueen was born Sept. 24, 1943, to the late Hugh and Austa Hoffmeister McQueen of West Middlesex.

He and his wife Doris were married in January 1962. They lived in West Middlesex and started their family while he attended Youngstown State University, where he attained his bachelor's degree. In 1976, they moved to Lewisburg, Pa., where they resided for 11 years before moving to the current residence in Ephrata.

Philip spent most of his career in the trucking industry and was later employed doing what he loved most, planting beautiful gardens and landscaping.

He was an avid outdoorsman in every sense, enjoying activities such as hunting, fishing, bird watching and gardening.
    Surviving other than his daughter Amy McQueen, Julian, N.C.; are: his son, Scott and his wife Mary; three grandchildren, Jessie, Sarah and Sean, all Forty Fort, Pa.; two sisters, Janet Black, State College, Pa.; and Marilyn Walker, Troy, Ohio; his brother, Paul McQueen, Chahalis, Wash.; as well as many wonderful friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McQueen was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Doris McQueen, who passed away Dec. 11, 1997.

Robert Adam John Filer
Church elder aided MCAR, worked at Sharon Steel

WARREN, Ohio -- Robert Adam John Filer, 1330 Waverly Drive NW, Warren, formerly of Sharpsville, died of natural causes at 4:02 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in his home after a lengthy illness. He was 85.

Mr. Filer was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Altoona, Pa., to Adam O. Filer and Agnes C. Huber Filer.

An alumnus of Altoona High School, he graduated in 1938 from Pennsylvania State University.

He was employed for 43 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he was general superintendent of technical service. He also served 25 years as superintendent of the cold roll department of the mill. He retired in 1982.

As a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon, he served as an elder and chairman of the building committee.

He was also a past chairman of the board of directors of the Mercer County Association for the Retarded; and belonged to the American Iron and Steel Institute and was a founding member of one of its committees.

His wife of 54 years, the former Marjorie R. Hengstler, whom he married Oct. 31, 1940, died Aug. 13, 1995.

Surviving are: three daughters, Dr. Anne F., wife of Dr. Timothy Schenz, Powell, Ohio; Mrs. Thomas (Nancy F.) Lucas, Warren, with whom Robert resided; and Mrs. Karl (Betsy F.) Kotanchik, Douglassville, Pa.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Gregory (Jennifer Lucas) McAllister, David T. Lucas, Robert A.J. Lucas, Kate E. Kotanchik and Erik S. Kotanchik; four great-grandchildren, Molly McAllister, Thomas McAllister, Kelsey Lucas and Kristen Lucas; and a wife, Jane Baur Filer, Woodbridge, Va.

Besides his wife, Marjorie, he was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute to a fund for his missionary friends, whom he encouraged through the years.
