John J. Bardelcik Westinghouse retiree was Army veteran John J. Bardelcik, 974 Mercer-Grove City Road, Findley Township, died at 7:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township, following an extended illness. He was 86. Mr. Bardelcik was born May 2, 1916, in Donora, Pa., to John Bardelcik and Johanna Smugala Bardelcik. He retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Mr. Bardelcik was an Army veteran and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Mercer. Surviving are: his wife, the former Rose A. White, whom he married on Aug. 18, 1941, at the residence; two sons, John J. Bardelcik III, Manchester, N.H.; and Dennis L. Bardelcik, Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a sister, Ann, wife of Nelson Allridge, New Eagle, Pa.; a brother, Ed Bardelcik and his wife, Martha, Mercer; and three grandchildren. Mr. Bardelcik was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Patricia A. Shaffer READING, Pa. -- Patricia A. Shaffer, 520 Edison Court, Reading, formerly of Hermitage, died of natural causes at 5 a.m. Sunday (10-27-02) in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
Richard H. Moll Retired personnel manager was WWII Army veteran A memorial service will be held at the convenience of family for Richard H. Moll, 4495 Clifford Drive, Hermitage, formerly of Warren, Pa. He died at 1:49 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 82. Mr. Moll was born April 6, 1920, in Warren to Francis Moll and Bertha Dietsch Moll. He graduated in 1940 from Warren High School and worked for Penn Co. of Warren, as a personnel manager for 39 years. He retired in 1980. Mr. Moll was a member of Grace Methodist Church of Warren. He served during World War II in the Army. He helped with building the first Allied air strip in France and was in D-Day +1. He received the Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty from the French. Mr. Moll currently was a member of the American Legion in Warren; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166 in Hermitage. He was a former member of the Personnel Association; and Industrial Managers of Warren. He was also co-captain of the Auxiliary Police; an Eagle Scout; and was a Scout leader for Troop 2, Order of the Arrow of Boys Scouts of America, all Warren. He was also a former member of United Commercial Travelers. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, canoeing, traveling and spending time in Florida during winters. Surviving are: his wife, the former Anne Hathaway, at home, whom he married on Nov. 9, 1945; a daughter, Mrs. Doug (Cheryl) Solock, Hermitage; two brothers, Robert Moll, Mississippi; and Leroy Moll, Warren; two granddaughters, Mrs. Terry (Sandra) Crupi, Allentown, Pa.; and Mrs. Boaz (Sonya) Soifer, Cerillos, N.M.; and three great-grandchildren, Jason Crupi and Rebecca and Isaac Soifer. Mr. Moll was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Josephine Kochheim; and one brother, Raymond Moll. Memorial contributions may be made to Shenango Valley Community Library, 11 N. John F. 'Fred' Toth Holy Trinity member was retired pipefitter YOUNGSTOWN -- A funeral service will be held Monday for John F. "Fred" Toth, 561 W. Marshall Road, McDonald, Ohio. He passed away unexpectedly at 7:37 p.m. Friday (10-25-02) in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was 66. Mr. Toth was born Jan. 7, 1936, in Niles, Ohio, a son of John F. Toth and Anna Kovacicek Toth. A lifelong resident of McDonald, he was a 1954 alumnus of McDonald High School, where he was president of his senior class. He retired in 1998 as a pipefitter from Titi Slewinski Construction Co. in Girard, Ohio, where he had been employed for 20 years. Mr. Toth previously had been superintendent of McDonald Water Department for 20 years. For the past 1èyears, he was a tool room manager at New Castle School of Trades. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hermitage, where he was a former member of the church council. Mr. Toth served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for two years in Cleveland. He was a former officer of Continental Tamburitzans in Sharon and was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union St. George Lodge 66 in Youngstown. He also belonged to the Senior Tamburitza group, OdSrce. A great sportsman, Mr. Toth enjoyed NASCAR racing, football, fishing and hunting. His wife, the former Ruth G. Rust, formerly of Sharpsville, whom he married on Oct. 5, 1968, in the former Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farrell, survives at home. He also leaves: two sons, Mark J. Toth and his wife Debbie Turner, Mooresville, N.C.; and Scott A. Toth, Plano, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. David (Betty) Leskovec, McDonald; and Jacquelyn Parise, Austintown, Ohio; one brother, Gary D. Toth, Warren; three nieces, Lisa Gloria, Nicole Toth and Tina Woodring-Durnell; two nephews, Jeffrey Parise and Merle E. Woodring Jr.; and two great-nephews, Merle E. Woodring III and Caleb J. Woodring. Mr. Toth was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Carolyn Fry Toth.
Janet C. Sloat Homemaker formerly worked as secretary Janet C. Sloat, Coolspring Township, formerly of Hermitage, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township. She was 85. Mrs. Sloat was born Aug. 25, 1917, in Sharon to Harley M. Comstock and Deulah M. Booth Comstock. A graduate of Sharon High School and Spencerian College of Cleveland, she was a secretary at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Mrs. Sloat was also a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith. She was a member of Sharon Country Club and enjoyed her children and her grandchildren, as well as traveling. Her husband, T.K. Sloat, died on Oct. 4, 1990. Surviving are: a son-in-law, James Bailey Jr., Hermitage; a sister-in-law, Mrs. H.B. Comstock, Berea, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Wendy S. Bailey and Mrs. Scott (Jill M.) Hanawalt. Besides her husband, Mrs. Sloat was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Sherri S. Bailey. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department.
Carrie B. Whiteside Farrell native was active in AME church, NAACP FARRELL -- A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Carrie B. Whiteside, 1109 German St., Erie, formerly of Farrell. She passed away at 5:15 a.m. Saturday (10-26-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 78. Mrs. Whiteside was born April 18, 1924, in Farrell to King David Jackson and Annie Jones Jackson. She was a graduate of Farrell High School Class of 1942 and retired from General Electric Corp. in Erie, for which she had been a longtime employee. As a member of St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Erie, Mrs. Whiteside served as an usher and belonged to the church Stewardess Board. She was a past longtime president of the NAACP's Erie Branch; and was a member of the Guys and Dolls Club; and the Moonlighters Club. Mrs. Whiteside was a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star Orpha Chapter 21, Erie; and belonged to Sahara Court 9 Daughter of Isis, Pittsburgh; MET Carrol 62, Valley of Erie Order of the Golden Circle, Erie, all Prince Hall Affiliation. Her husband, Thomas A. Whiteside, whom she married on March 31, 1957, passed away on Oct. 30, 2000. Surviving are: one son, Richard C. Whiteside and his wife Tracy A.; and two grandchildren, Brittany and Andre Whiteside, all at home; three nieces and goddaughters, Ruth Ann Jacoway Gray, Sharon; Phyllis L. Townsend, Farrell; and Angie Joyce, Erie; two sisters, Elizabeth Williams, Masury; and Bernice Jacoway, Farrell; one brother, Richard Atkinson and his wife Eugenia, Youngstown; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Besides her husband, Mrs. Whiteside was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Willa R. Neal and Mary Ann Smith; and two brothers, David Jackson and Jay L. Jackson.
Ned David Wilson St. Michael's member was Bell systems installer A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday for Ned David Wilson, 42 Rickert Road, West Salem Township. He died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 75. Mr. Wilson was born March 29, 1927, in Greenville to Ned S. Wilson and Loretta Junk Wilson. A graduate of the former St. Michael's High School in Greenville, he was a systems installer for more than 30 years for Bell Telephone Co. He retired in 1989. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Mr. Wilson lived in Albuquerque, N.M., and was a member of the Bernallio County Sheriff's Posse. As a lifelong member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville, he served as an usher; on the Alumni Committee; and helped with the church's funeral luncheons. Mr. Wilson also belonged to Knights of Columbus Fitzmartin Council 1446 in Greenville, where he helped work bingo games. He served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. Surviving are: his wife, the former Carol A. Kitko, whom he married on Nov. 19, 1991; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Wendy) Larcher, Walton, Ky.; two sons, Ned Scott Wilson, Clearwater, Fla.; and Allen L. Wilson, South Lyon, Mich.; three sisters, Mary Edna Regan, Greenville; Barbara Russell, Mercer; and Trudy Young, also Greenville; two brothers, Joseph A. Wilson, Warren, Ohio; and Terry Wilson, Greenville; and four grandchildren. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, W. James Wilson; and one sister, Jean Wilson.
