Patricia A. Shaffer Ex-local woman worked at motor club, Whitmer-Smith READING, Pa. -- A funeral Mass will be held Friday for Patricia A. Shaffer, 520 Edison Court, Reading, formerly of Hermitage. She died of natural causes at 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She was 79. Mrs. Shaffer was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Sharon to Frank Christiansen and Catherine McNamara Christiansen. A 1941 graduate of Sharon High School, she was a clerk at Mercer County Motor Club. She also worked at American Red Cross and at the former Whitmer-Smith's clothing store in downtown Sharon. Mrs. Shaffer was of the Catholic faith and attended Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage for 20 years. She was a lifelong member of Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She loved playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, Charles Shaffer, whom she married Aug. 4, 1941, died Nov. 10, 1984. Surviving are: a daughter, Cheryl Bruno, Reading; a son, John Shaffer and his wife Kathy, Hermitage; a sister-in-law, Anne Mary Gamble, New Wilmington; a brother, Robert Christiansen, Linesville; and four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters and one brother.
SHAFFER Louise McElroy Church member was club officer, Corral manager Louise McElroy of 816 Sugar Hollow Road, Hermitage, died of natural causes on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in the home of her daughter in Hermitage. She was 78. She was the wife of Robert E. McElroy, whom she married March 30, 1946. Born Saturday, May 10, 1924, in Sharpsville, Mrs. McElroy was a daughter of the late Dallas and Wava Reichert Pryde. She was a 1942 graduate of Sharpsville High School. Louise had worked as a manager of the Corral Drive-In restaurant in Sharpsville for many years. From 1942 to 1956, she worked in the production department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. As a member of Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage, she belonged to the Women's Society of the church. Louise was also past president of the Hickory Women's Club in Hermitage. She enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with her granddaughters. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her daughter, Judy P.M., wife of Robert Blythe, Hermitage; two granddaughters, Linzie and Kristi Blythe, both also Hermitage; and a sister, Arlene Zinger, Durham, N.C. Besides her parents, Louise was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Reichard and Anna Lewis; and a brother, Harold Pryde. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Health System's Hospice Home Care, 490 N. Kerrwood Drive, Suite 204, Hermitage 16148; or the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Ave., Sharon 16146.

William H. Subasic Sharpsville man was retired truck driver William H. Subasic, 127 Eighth St., Sharpsville, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, 2002, in The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington, after an extended illness. He was 64. Mr. Subasic was born in May 1938, in Sharon, a son of Joseph Edward Subasic and Barbara Findley Subasic. He attended Sharpsville High School and retired as a truck driver for Glacier Carrier out of Kaliespel, Mont. Mr. Subasic loved race cars and fishing and attended Sharpsville Pentecostal Holiness Church. His wife, the former Catharine M. Artman, whom he married Aug. 13, 1966, survives at the residence in Sharpsville. Also surviving are: two sons, Joseph Subasic, Sharpsville; and Harry Eugene Subasic, Girard, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Linda and her husband Andrew Eperjesi, West Middlesex; and Trinda and her husband Leonard Montgomery, Masury; two stepsons, Edwin Robinson, Daytona Beach, Fla.; and Kevin Robinson, Masury; and 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Edward Subasic.
SUBASIC Margaret Hudspeth Sharon woman was club volunteer, township officer Margaret Hudspeth of 647 New Castle Ave. in Sharon passed away at 5:48 a.m. Tuesday morning (10-29-02) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. She was 81. Mrs. Hudspeth was born April 6, 1921, in New Castle, a daughter of James and Anna Bella. She graduated from New Castle High School. In her early years, she was employed by Shenango Pottery in New Castle, where she worked in their payroll department. Mrs. Hudspeth later worked for the United States Postal Service in Bessemer and also held an elected office as secretary/treasurer for Bessemer Township, a position she held for several years. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 242 in Sharon. Mrs. Hudspeth volunteered her time for 27 years at the Maenerchor Club in Sharon, where she worked bingo games. Her first husband, Melon E. Puz, whom she married in 1950, passed away in 1963. Her second husband, Walter E. Hudspeth Jr., whom she married Sept. 26, 1968, passed away July 1, 1981. Her two stepdaughters, Marilyn J. Hudspeth and Mary Ann Hudspeth, with whom she lived, survive her. Besides her first and second husbands, Mrs. Hudspeth was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Bella.
