Patricia Eberhardt Banish
Fla. woman, '56 Sharpsville grad, had family living here

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- An interment service will be held Saturday for Patricia Eberhardt Banish, 10565 NW 13th Ave., Gainesville, formerly of Sharpsville. She died of natural causes at 9:42 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, in E.T. York Hospice Care Center. She was 64.

Mrs. Banish was born April 19, 1938, in Sharon to Ernest Eberhardt and Mary Connelly Eberhardt.

She was a graduate of Sharpsville High School Class of 1956.

She moved from Pennsylvania to Florida, where she lived for 17 years and was an office manager for Portal Architecture in Gainesville.

Mrs. Banish was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gainesville.

Surviving are: a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Rosa, wife of Bruce, Sharpsville; two sons, Martin D. Banish, husband of Lisa, Orlando, Fla.; and Jeffrey D. Banish, husband of Kimberly, Port Orange, Fla.; one sister, Margaret Mariotti, wife of Nick, Hermitage; and four grandchildren, Jessica Rosa, Bruce Rosa Jr., Danielle Rosa and Madison Banish.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patti Lynn Banish; and a sister, Maryann Chrastina.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Food for the Poor or Hospice of North Central Florida.

John P. Vernille Jr.
'77 HHS grad, booster was meat cutter, plant worker

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday for John P. Vernille Jr., 653 E. Beaver St., Mercer, formerly of South Keel Ridge Road, Hermitage.

He passed away unexpectedly at 10:25 p.m. Saturday (11-2-02) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. He was 43.

Mr. Vernille was born March 25, 1959, in Sharon, a son of John P. Vernille Sr. and Judith McCauley Vernille.

He attended Our Lady of Fatima Parochial Grade School in Farrell and was a 1977 alumnus of Hickory High School in Hermitage.

John was employed by Wheatland Tube Co. from 1977 until 1987. He and his wife then owned and operated Antonio's Pizza Shop in Sharpsville.

He most recently had been a meat cutter for various businesses in Mercer and Lawrence counties.

John was a member of the Italian Home Club and New Deal Club, both Farrell.

A sports fan, he was active in the Hickory High School boosters. He also was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

His wife, the former Geralyn "Geri" Lee Antus, whom he married May 10, 1978, in St. Ann's Church, Farrell, survives at home.

He also leaves: three sons, John P. Vernille III and his wife, Tiffany, Wheatland; Matthew John Vernille and Michael Vittorio Vernille, both at home; his father and stepmother, Janet R. Vernille, Hermitage; his mother, Judith L. Vernille, Farrell; one sister, Valerie Lasch and her husband, Todd, Sharon; two brothers, Jeffrey Vernille and his wife Christina, Meadville; and Paul Vernille and his wife Michelle, Ashtabula, Ohio; his grandmother, Johanna Vernille, Hermitage; one half sister, Amber Runyan and her husband Art, Farrell; one grandson, Austin Michael Vernille; two aunts, Beverly Thomas and her husband Bill, Farrell; and Diane DeBrakeleer and her husband LeRoy, Hermitage; an uncle, Roy "Jr." McBriar, Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews, including Jackie Osborne and Heather Ondich, with whom John was very close.

Also surviving are: eight cousins; his father- and mother-in-law, Robert Antus Sr. and Patricia Antus, Hermitage; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Skalak and her husband Peter, North Carolina; and Tamara Barbir, Hermitage; a brother-in-law, Robert Antus Jr. and his wife Rhea, Arizona; and his grandmother-in-law, E. Louise Bennett, Hermitage.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edgar and Katherine McCauley; and Paul Vernille; and his godmother and aunt, Pauline McBriar.

Peter James Rotunno

Retiree was Sharon native, had relatives living here

GRANTS PASS, Oregon -- Peter James Rotunno, Grants Pass, formerly of Sharon and La Habra, Calif., died at 1:25 a.m. PST Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, 2002, in his home. He was 91.

Mr. Rotunno was born March 1, 1911, in Sharon, a son of Luigi and Maria Conti Rotunno.

He attended Sharon High School and later owned a small neighborhood grocery store in Sharon.

After moving to California in 1943, Mr. Rotunno founded Park Auto Brake in East Los Angeles, an auto refinishing business, for which he worked until his retirement in 1980.

He and his wife moved to Grants Pass in 1985 from La Habra.

Mr. Rotunno was a member for 12 years of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1584 in Grants Pass.

He also belonged to Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon.

He enjoyed his home, his family and visiting with friends.

On Nov. 16, 1933, in Cumberland, W.Va., Mr. Rotunno married the former Laura Adeline McGrath, who survives at home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: a son, Lewis Rotunno, La Habra; a daughter, Emma Jean Lengwin, Grants Pass; a brother, Michael Rotunno, Brookfield; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, some of whom live in the Shenango Valley and in surrounding areas.

Mr. Rotunno was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

A private funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Grants Pass.

enjoyed birdwatching

Charlene Anne Maykowski, 3000 Valley View Road, South Pymatuning Township, died at 11:55 p.m. Friday (11-1-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. She was 66.

Born Feb. 10, 1936, in Shenango Township, Mrs. Maykowski was a daughter of Joseph Kruck and Mary Kruk Kruck.

She attended Mercer High School.

A homemaker and beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Maykowski was a member of Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage. She enjoyed crocheting and working with crafts.

As a birdwatcher, she enjoyed feeding birds from her many bird feeders located around her home.

Mrs. Maykowski was loved by all and was a wonderful friend to all who crossed her path.

She married Jerome Maykowski on June 24, 1965, who survives at home.

Mrs. Maykowski also leaves: four daughters, Mary Jane and her husband Edward Rock, Hermitage; Kathryn A. and her husband Richard McNeelege, Georgetown, Texas; Sharon L. Benevedez, Lake Charles, La.; and Tina Marie and her husband W. Allen Babcock, Sharpsville, with whom she made her home; four sons, Ralph A. and his wife Lettie Maykowski, Virginia Beach, Va.; Joseph R. and his wife Sherry Swartz, Golden Valley, Ariz.; Harold E. "Ed" and his wife Shirley Swartz, Sharon; and John A. Maykowski, Bel Fair, Wash.; two sisters, Geraldine M. Eckert, Sharon; and Helen L. and her husband James Kapusta, Hermitage; a brother, Michael J. Kruck, Hermitage; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Maykowski was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Joseph C. Kruck.
