Joseph Edward 'Bud' McCann Retired grocer, WWII vet commanded B-26 on D-Day Joseph Edward "Bud" McCann, 1138 Bon Air Drive, Sharon, formerly of Mayfield Road, Sharpsville, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 80. He was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Sharpsville to Joseph Edward McCann and Edna M. Kirk McCann. A 1939 graduate of Sharpsville High School, he retired as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, having first served in World War II in the Army Air Corps, Ninth Air Force, in command of B-26 Marauder. He completed 65 combat bombing missions including the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Capt. McCann was awarded the U.S. Army Air Combat Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters and the French Combat Air Medal for his many missions over France and Europe during the war. Capt. McCann was a retired grocer and of the Presbyterian faith. Surviving are: his wife, E. Jean Murphy McCann, Sharon; three sons, Barry E. McCann and his wife Ronelle, Hermitage; Attorney Kenneth K. McCann, Sharpsville; and Jeffrey A. McCann and his wife Peggy, Clark; a sister, Eileen Martin, Aliquippa, Pa.; two grandchildren, Bradley E. Mc- Cann and his wife Jane, San Francisco; and Laurie Zappone and her husband Michael, Pittsburgh; and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Lea Zappone. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother, Edna McDowell. Memorial contributions may be made to Buhl Farm Trustees, 730 Forker Blvd., Sharon 16146.
