Victor G. Costar
Farrell native, WWII vet retired from Sharon Tube

Victor G. Costar, 69 Rexford Drive, Hermitage, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 20, 2002, in his residence. He was 82.
Mr. Costar was born June 3, 1920, in Farrell to Peter A. Costar Sr. and Olivia Staunch Costar.
A graduate of Farrell High School Class of 1938, he retired in 1980 from the maintenance department of Sharon Tube Co. Mr. Costar was a member of Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Hermitage; American Legion Post 162, Sharpsville; and was a former member of the Romanian TBA Society.
An Army Air Force veteran, he served as a sergeant during World War II.
He bowled in the Sharon Tube League and Sunset Lanes Senior League, Farrell.
Mr. Costar was an avid sports fan and fisherman. His wife, the former Alma Costello, whom he married on June 25, 1966, died on Sept. 2, 1992.
Surviving are: two sisters, Virginia Mitru, Hermitage; and Aurelia Kuehn, North Tonawanda, N.Y.; one brother, Peter A. Costar and his wife Nancy, Hermitage; six nieces and nephews; five great-nieces and - nephews; and one goddaughter, Shana Marie Reeves.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Gregory Costar, who died in 1979.

Mario Mancini Sr.
1941 Farrell grad retired from Westinghouse Corp.

Mario Mancini Sr. of Sharpsville, passed away on Thursday evening (11-21-02) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System after suffering a heart attack in his residence. He was 80.
Mr. Mancini was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Farrell, a son of Vincent and Maria Ciccarone Mancini.
He was a 1941 graduate of Farrell High School. Mr. Mancini retired in 1983 from the Z Building at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he had been employed as a welder for 32 years.
Mr. Mancini enjoyed traveling with his wife, and at one time, had been a trip escort for the Warren Auto Club.
In the 1940s, he served with the U.S. Army.
His wife, the former Jean Skladanek, whom he married on Dec. 28, 1948, survives at home.
He leaves: one son, Mario Mancini Jr. and his wife Judy, Sharpsville; three grandchildren, Wendy Kenneally, Gina Marie Haun and Mario Mancini III; one great-grandson, Kaleb Haun; and one stepgreat-grandson, Blake Haun.
Mr. Mancini is also survived by his two sisters, Louise Mondich, Farrell; and Josephine Ronghi, Aliquippa, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lorraine Mancini and Anna Abrusci.

Dolores 'Dee' Schuster Thur
Hermitage woman enjoyed painting and traveling

Dolores "Dee" Schuster Thur, 830 Gail Drive, Hermitage, died at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. She was 73.
Mrs. Thur was born July 9, 1929, in Farrell to Andrew Schuster and Mary Weber Schuster.
She graduated in 1947 from Farrell High School and worked as a secretary for eight years for the former Cooper-Jarrett Trucking of Wheatland. Prior to that, Mrs. Thur worked for 14 years in a clerical position for the former Sharon Steel Corp. Farrell plant. She was also a homemaker, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Sharon, a local card club and was a past member of the Saxon Club, Farrell.
Mrs. Thur enjoyed painting and traveling; and collecting figurine houses and St. Nicholas statues. She was also an avid reader.
Surviving are: her husband, Albert Thur, at home, whom she married on May 1, 1954; a daughter, Holly J. Martin and her husband Edward, Canonsburg, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Andrew A. Martin, Michael J. Martin and Jacob E. Martin.
Mrs. Thur was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie K. Campman and Minnie R. Moore; and two brothers, Andrew and Carl Schuster.

Cynthia Rose Nickols
Sharon woman graduated from Ivy Institute of Art Cynthia

Rose Nickols, 945 Hall Ave., Sharon, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in her home. She was 46.
Mrs. Nickols was born March 16, 1956, in Sharon to Stanley O. Bombeck Jr. and Helene Griffin Bombeck.
A 1974 alumna of Sharon High School, she graduated from Ivy Institute of Art in Pittsburgh. She was employed as an embroidery machine group leader at Fan-Buzz Corporation, Hermitage. Mrs. Nickols attended First United Methodist Church in Sharon.
Surviving are: her mother, Helene Griffin Bombeck, Sharon; and a brother, Scott Bombeck and his wife Kim, Holmes, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Stanley O. Bombeck III. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 59 N. Crescent Drive, Hermitage 16148.

Mary Jane Nickel
Homemaker belonged to Pa. Farmers Bureau

Mary Jane Nickel, 255 Daley Road, Jefferson Township, died of natural causes at 2:40 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following an extended illness. She was 71.
Mrs. Nickel was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Jefferson Township to E.W. McCullough and Florence Tait McCullough.
A homemaker, she was a member of Clark Trinity United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Pennsylvania Farmers Bureau.
Her husband, Russell S. Nickel, the current supervisor of Jefferson Township, whom she married on Aug. 20, 1948, survives at home.
Also surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Lori) McKnight, Clark; two sons, Ronald Nickel and his wife Deborah, Jefferson Township; and John Nickel, Sharpsville; five grandchildren, Christopher Nickel and his wife Rachel; and Cari Nickel, Emmy McKnight, Patrick McKnight and Charles McKnight; and one great-grandchild, Wilson Nickel.
Mrs. Nickel was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Brandt; and a son, William Nickel.

Krystal D. Tresler
Homemaker enjoyed spending time with family

Krystal D. Tresler, 27 Wall St., Transfer, died at 4:55 p.m. Thursday (11-21-02) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 41.
Mrs. Tresler was born April 23, 1961, in Santa Cruz, Calif., to J. Daniel Miller and Candace Porter Miller.
She was a graduate of Titusville (Pa.) High School.
A homemaker, Mrs. Tresler was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband, Andrew R. Tresler, whom she married on Oct. 2, 1982, survives at home. Also surviving are: three sons, Daniel O. Tresler, Benjamin M. Tresler and Jeremy Tresler, all at home; her father, J. Daniel Miller, Titusville; one sister, Tina M. Van Cise, Grand Valley, Pa.; and one brother, James D. Miller Jr., Cherrytree, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her mother.

Carl T. Kukol
Former valley man liked to hunt and fish

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. - Carl T. Kukol, Okeechobee, formerly of the Shenango Valley, died at 2:27 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in Raulerson Hospital. He was 86. Born Nov. 30, 1916, in Farrell, Mr. Kukol had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1989.
He worked as a conductor for the railroad and served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Mr. Kukol was a hunter, fisherman and "Teller of Tales."
He was preceded in death by a son, Terrance; a sister, Elma; and a brother, Alfred. Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Dunkerley, at home in Okeechobee; one brother, John Kukol and his wife Alice, Sharon; a granddaughter, Angela and her husband Jon Hebel, Maryland; a grandson, Jason Kukol, Atlanta; and a daughter-in-law, Judith Kukol, Denver.

Elizabeth L. Doerr
Sharon woman was of the Protestant faith

Elizabeth L. Doerr of Clepper Manor, but formerly of 1085 Leslie St., both Sharon, died of natural causes at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in Clepper Manor after an extended illness. She was 91. She was the widow of Paul Doerr.
Born on Thursday, Feb. 2, 1911, in Sharon, Mrs. Doerr was a daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Sturgis Mc- Figgen.
She was of the Protestant faith.
Mrs. Doerr attended Sharon schools. Many years ago, she had worked at the former Nobil Shoes in Sharon.
She is survived by a brother, Samuel, husband of Isabel Mc- Figgen, Sharon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her parents and her husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a sister, Leonarda Arner.

Mrs. Paul (Elizabeth L.), 91, formerly of 1085 Leslie St., Sharon.
