Mary Stanovich Koehli
Hubbard church member belonged to Farrell lodge

Mary Stanovich Koehli of 244 Fifth Ave., Hubbard, passed away Monday evening (12-9-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 86.

Mrs. Koehli was born April 18, 1916, in Farrell, a daughter of Nicholas and Evelyn Oreschan Stanovich.

She was a 1934 graduate of Farrell High School and a beautician at the former Elite Shop in Sharon.

She was a member of Central Christian Church in Hubbard and the Serbian National Federation Lodge 68 in Farrell.

Mary enjoyed traveling on local bus tours and loved to shop.

Her husband, Harold "Cook" Koehli, whom she married Sept. 7, 1940, passed away Sept. 23, 1980.

She leaves: two brothers, Sam Stanovich, Farrell; and Louis Stanovich and his wife Marlene, Hubbard; a sister, Martha Beader, Farrell; three sisters-in-law, Betty Stanovich, Hubbard; Della Gahagan, Butler; and Grace Koehli, Columbus, Ohio; two nephews, Keith Stanovich and Peter Stanovich; two nieces, Cindy Stanovich and Nancy Stanovich; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

Her brothers, Peter Stanovich, Michael Stanovich and George Stanovich; and a sister, Mildred Stanovich, are deceased.

Martha J. Soloninka

Active Sharon C-R church member was Strouss' clerk

Martha J. Soloninka, 700 Laurel Drive, Sharpsville, died at 8:23 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 83.

Mrs. Soloninka was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Sharpsville to Andrew Walko and Mary Kraynak Walko.

She was a clerk in the infants department at the former Strouss' department store in downtown Sharon, where she worked for 30 years. She was a former member of the Retiree Club of Strouss'.

As an active and faithful member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church in Sharon, Mrs. Soloninka was active in the Mothers and Daughters Club.

Her husband, Michael Soloninka, whom she married Oct. 5, 1946, died Oct. 5, 1988.

Surviving are: a son, Andrew W. Soloninka, Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; four grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Helen Laycock, Sharpsville; and Katherine Zickar, Hermitage; and one brother, Joseph Walko, Sharpsville.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Soloninka was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Rowlands; and a brother, Michael Walko.

    Interment: St. John's Cemetery, Hermitage.


Roy Angelo Pisano

National Castings retiree, WWII vet was of Wheatland

Roy Angelo Pisano, 123 Chestnut St., Wheatland, died at 4:18 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 78.

Mr. Pisano was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Wheatland to Samuel Pisano and Lina Baker Pisano.

He was employed by National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp. in Sharon, retiring in 1981 after 20 years.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Pisano served during World War II.

In 1943, he married Mary Morris and, in 1955, he married Victoria Massotto, who died Aug. 8, 1991.

His wife, the former Ruth Womer, whom he married Feb. 29, 1992, survives at the residence in Wheatland.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Anna Daniels and her husband James, West Middlesex; and three sons, Roy A. "Butch" Pisano Jr., Youngstown; Samuel Morris, Wheatland; and Jack Womer and his wife Joanne, West Middlesex.

Besides his first and second wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, William Hosfelt, Frank Hosfelt, Ellsworth Hosfelt, Red Hosfelt and Vincent Pisano; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Pisano.

Memorial contributions may be made to his family.

Frank Curcio, 1159 N. Albright-McKay Road, Brookfield, died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday (12-10-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 59.

Mary Elizabeth Heck

Homemaker was member of Sharpsville Presbyterian

Mary Elizabeth Heck, Coolspring Township, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township, after an extended illness. She was 82.

Mrs. Heck was born July 29, 1920, in Sharpsville to Joseph Kovach and Mary Szabo Kovach.

A homemaker, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sharpsville.

She also belonged to Loyal Order of the Moose in Sharon and loved to bowl.

Her husband, Richard M. Heck Sr., whom she married May 19, 1940, died Feb. 6, 1988.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. William (Mary Ellen) Roberts, Sharpsville; and Mrs. Edward (Kathryn Lois) Bartholomew, West Sunbury; one son, Richard Milton Heck Jr., Sharpsville; two brothers, John Kovach, Sea Brook, N.H.; and Gabor Kovach, Sharon; five grandchildren, Michelle Heck, Ray C. Roberts, Deanne Lynn Roberts, Keith Edward Bartholomew and Holly Ann Collins; and three great-grandchildren, Evan Richard Kendra, Courtney E. Collins and Kayla Collins.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Heck was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, James and Joseph Kovach.

Charles L. Falkner

Honored war vet worked at WE, retired as letter carrier

Charles L. Falkner, 408 Franklin St., Sharpsville, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 79.

Mr. Falkner was born March 29, 1923, in Warren, Ohio, to Grant Charles Falkner and Elizabeth Rose Falkner.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, Ohio National Guard. Mr. Falkner participated in the first-wave landings at Bougainville in the Solomon Islands and Luzon in the Philippines. He was also awarded the Bronze Star and a Presidential citation for his actions in the Battle of Manila, a siege that lasted 30 days.

He retired as a city letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service in Sharpsville and was previously employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 20 years.

Mr. Falkner was a 1941 graduate of Sharpsville High School. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1338; and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 55, both Farrell; and American Legion Post 162, Sharpsville.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sharpsville.

Mr. Falkner played baseball for American Legion Post 299 in Sharon and enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing.

His wife, Irene Viola Sterns Falkner, whom he married July 11, 1946, died Dec. 31, 2001.

Surviving are: two sons, Garth C. Falkner, Mercer; and Lynn A. "Pudge" Falkner, Sharpsville; three granddaughters, Haddi Falkner, Hermitage; and Alexandria and Rebekah Falkner, both Mercer; and one great-granddaughter, Bridget Raquel Falkner.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
