Carl R. Sweitzer WWII Navy veteran was Sharon Steel retiree COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Carl R. Sweitzer, Columbus, formerly of the Youngstown area, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in Arbors East Care Facility after a long battle with emphysema. He was 80. Mr. Sweitzer was born on Feb. 4, 1922, in Sligo, Pa., to the late Fred and Elsie Stopp Sweitzer. He was a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area until 1994, when he moved to Columbus to be cared for by his daughter-in-law, Kimber Sweitzer, and his son, Gary. Mr. Sweitzer retired as an electrician from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Halligan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Margarette "Eunice" Sweitzer; as well as an infant daughter, Linda Lou; a brother, Bill Sweitzer; and a sister, Mary Zahuranec. Carl is survived by his loving family including: a sister, Dorothy, wife of Paul McDade, Fredonia; sons, Dr. Gary and Kimber Sweitzer, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and Keith and Karyn Sweitzer, Pickerington, Ohio; grandchildren, Kalia, Kortney and Stacey; a great-granddaughter, Stasja; and lifelong friends, Dave Jackson and Sara Siverling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Ohio Parkinson Society, 371 McCambell Hall, 1581 Dodd Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43210.
SWEITZER Alfred N. Hull Retired Thiel professor was First Presby deacon Alfred N. Hull, West Salem Township, formerly of 40 Third Ave., Greenville, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. He was 84. Mr. Hull was born May 16, 1918, in Hillsboro, W.Va., to George Hull and Florence Clutter Hull. A 1936 graduate of Hillsboro High School, he was employed for 25 years at Thiel College in Greenville, retiring in 1983 as professor emeritus of economics. He was previously employed as a social studies teacher at Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg and University of Arkansas, as instructor of economics. He graduated in 1940 from Concord College in Athens, W.Va., with a bachelor's degree in economics. He was a four-year starter on the football team and received all conference honors. In 1947, he earned his master's degree from Duke University in Durham, N.C. As a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, Mr. Hull served as a deacon. He was a past member of Kiwanis Club of Greenville; and the C.B.I. Shooting Club of Greenville. He was a collector of first edition fur trade books. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed designing and building his hunting camp in Tionesta, Pa. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Hull served from 1942 to 1946, serving as a drill instructor at Parris Island in South Carolina. From 1946 to 1956, he participated in the Marine Corps Reserves. His wife, the former Thelma M. Sechrist, whom he married on July 3, 1943, died Dec. 23, 1999. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Lois) Bankhurst, Albuquerque, N.M.; one son, Gary A. Hull and his wife Margaret, Jamestown; and six grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Hull was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Opal McKeever, Noble Bumgarner and Anna Smith. HULL Anna Sucic Anna Sucic, 2713 Frampton Road, Hermitage, died at 3:10 p.m. Saturday (12-14-02) in her home after an extended illness. She was 91. Obituary information was incomplete.
SUCIC Mary Agnes Eckman Trinity Presby member was executive secretary Mary Agnes Eckman, Butler Pike, Findley Township, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in Grove Manor, Grove City, after an extended illness. She was 85. Mrs. Eckman was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Youngstown to George Welther and Mary Schoep Welther. She was a graduate of Austintown-Fitch High School in Austintown Township, Mahoning County, and attended Ohio State University in Columbus. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Eckman was a former executive secretary for the president of McKelvey's department store in Youngstown. Prior to that she was a governess. She was formerly employed by the U.S. government in Army research. She also worked as a housemother at Westminster College, New Wilmington. Mrs. Eckman was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Mercer and liked collecting antiques, playing bridge and gardening. Her husband, Claude Franklin Eckman, whom she married on May 24, 1942, died on May 3, 1975. Surviving are: two daughters, Claudia and her husband John Leyde, Mercer; and Pamela and her husband Gary Carson, Export, Pa.; one sister, Anne Rideout, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandchildren, Janna Leyde and Justin Carson; four nieces, Loretta Wire, Terrie Green, Jayne Boucherle and Carol Berkhammer; and four nephews, James Duffett, William Welther, Graydon Rideout and Gregory Rideout. ECKMAN Margaret L. Brakeman Sharon homemaker was devoted to her family Margaret L. Brakeman of 629 Meek St., Sharon, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in her home after a six-month illness. She was 63. She was the wife of Russell P. Brakeman, whom she married on Sept. 16, 1960. Born Aug. 28, 1939, in Sharon, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Alice Porterfield Schell. Margaret loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was of the Protestant faith. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: seven sons, Paul B. Brakeman, Sharon; Glenn B. Brakeman, Sharon; Virgil C. Brakeman, at home; Franklin H. Brakeman, also at home; Mark H. Allshouse, New Castle; Christopher E. Brakeman, Sharon; and Michael E. Brakeman, at home; four sisters, Susan, wife of Burton Winger; Ruth Allshouse and Neomia Levitt, all Sharon; and Priscilla Schell, at home; and three brothers, Franklin, husband of Jane Schell; and Charles, husband of Karen Schell, all Clark; and William, husband of Dorothy Schell, Sharon. Margaret is also survived by six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Scott A. Brakeman, who died on Dec. 27, 1997; a sister, Flora Mae Coxson; and a brother, Leon Schell.
BRAKEMAN Earl R. Dill Sharon Steel electrician was St. Adalbert's member Earl R. Dill, 1919 Mercer Ave., Farrell, died at 7:31 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was 82. Mr. Dill was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Cleveland to Earl Dill and Margaret Wohlgerumth Dill. A 1940 graduate of Struthers (Ohio) High School, he retired after 40 years as electrician at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. As an Army veteran, Mr. Dill served in the Pacific and in the Philippines during World War II. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell. He was also a member of St. Adalbert's Church, Farrell; and Polish National Alliance (PNA). Mr. Dill was an avid bowler and bowled in St. Adalbert's, PNA and Friday Senior leagues. His first wife, the former Amelia Bacic, died on July 11, 1975. He later married the former Henrietta Sarazen Kucharski in November of 1987. She survives at home. Surviving besides his wife, Henrietta, are: three children and their spouses, Bruce and Patty Dill, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Carol and Nick Timcisko, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and Michelle Needham, Youngstown; two stepsons, Jerome Sarazen, Farrell; and Gene Sarazen and his wife Dona, Sharon; and three sisters, Norma William, Palatine, Ill.; Margaret Hopwood, Emmett, Idaho; and Lucille Ridge, Pasadena, Texas. Mr. Dill also leaves eight grandchildren, Sean and Jason Dill, Dawn Mays, Lori Keith, Scott Timcisko, Tiffany Majkowski and Chad and Timothy Needham; two stepgrandchildren, Ryan and Michelle Sarazen; and 16 great-grandchildren. Beside his first wife he was preceded in death by his parents.
