Elsie P. Stimpak
Local woman was active
in many organizations
Elsie Pearl Neely Schweiss Stimpak, West Salem Township, formerly of the Shenango Valley and Weirton, W.Va., died at 7:25 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. She was 83.
Mrs. Stimpak was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Muddy Creek, Butler County, to Robert Hayes Neely and Florence Ellen Campbell Neely.
She was employed for 22 years as a field representative for the R.L. Polk Co., publisher of city directories.
Mrs. Stimpak was a member of St. Paul's Church in Weirton. She also was active in many organizations in the Weirton area, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Weirton Women of the Moose, Chapter 0746, in which she held several offices.
She was a founding member of the Four Seasons Extension Homemakers group of Hancock County, W.Va., serving as its president. Mrs. Stimpak also served in various offices, including president, for the Hancock County Homemakers council, and was cultural arts chairman of the West Virginia State Homemakers Association for two years. She was named Homemaker of the Year in 1979 and Hancock County Belle in 1989.
Mrs. Stimpak and her husband, Joseph Paul Stimpak, whom she married May 20, 1966, and who died July 7, 1987, became members of the Jefferson Grange of Hancock County in 1979 and later were named delegates to the state grange. Mrs. Stimpak was a lecturer for the state organization for two years.
She was a founding member and first secretary for the Fair Board of Hancock County.
Mrs. Stimpak also was a founding member and first president of the Four Seasons Senior Citizens Association, formed in 1985.
She was active in card clubs and bowling leagues in the Weirton area, and volunteered for a time in the critical care unit of Weirton Medical Center.
An avid cook, Mrs. Stimpak created many prize-winning recipes.
She also enjoyed writing poetry.
Mrs. Stimpak considered her greatest blessings to be her children and grandchildren, who loved her dearly.
Surviving are: two daughters, Judie, and her husband, Oscar Swogger Jr., Masury; and Jean, and her husband, Larry Griggs, Espyville, Pa.; three sons, John and his wife, Julie Schweiss, Provo, Utah; Jim and his wife, Kathie Schweiss, Walnut, Iowa; and Jerry and his wife, Charlie Schweiss, Hudson, N.H.; a daughter-in-law, Margie Schweiss, Schertz, Texas; two sisters, Florence DePonceau, Chautauqua, N.Y.; and Ellen and her husband Jim Miller, Hermitage; and numerous other family members and friends.
Mrs. Stimpak also leaves 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Stimpak was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Richard Laverne Neely, Glen Charles Neely, Thomas Wilbur Neely and Joseph Milton Neely; a son, Joseph Paul Schweiss Jr.; her first husband, Joseph Paul Schweiss Sr.; two grandchildren, Oscar Swogger III and Celisha Schweiss; and one great-grandchild, Seymour Swogger Pinchot.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

William J. Grabosky
William J. Grabosky, 2455 Anchorage Road, South Pymatuning Township, died at 1:55 p.m. Monday (12-23-02) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 79.

Raymond M. Roberts
WWII vet enjoyed bowling, was avid outdoorsman
A funeral and committal service will be held Thursday for Raymond M. Roberts of 116 Quinter Road, Salem Township. He died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 84.
Mr. Roberts was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Salem Township, a son of the late Frank and Ethel Palm Roberts.
On March 3, 1938, he married the former Leona A. Langhurst, who preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1993.
Mr. Roberts was a partner with his brother, Kenneth, in Roberts Brothers Lumber Co. and had retired in 1983 from the former Greenville Steel Car. He enjoyed operating a family farm in Salem Township and was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
Mr. Roberts was a member of North Salem United Methodist Church; Loyal Order the Moose Lodge 276, both Greenville, the latter with which he enjoyed bowling on the Greenville Moose Bowling Team. He was also a founding and charter member of the Hadley Rod and Gun Club.
Mr. Roberts served with the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a heavy machine gunner having served with the 390th Infantry Regiment, 98th Division for eight months in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and with the occupying forces in Japan.
He is survived by: six daughters, Sandra (Roberts) Roberts, wife of the late Russell Roberts, Hadley; Cheryl Mowery, Jamestown; Marsha Boles and her husband Richard, Sharon; Norma Hayne and her husband Larry, Greenville; Christine Foster and her husband Paul, Sharon; and Marta Williams and her husband Henry, Greenville; two sons, Raymond E. Roberts and his wife Denise, Sandy Lake; and Charles M. Roberts and his wife Donna, Hadley.
Also surviving are: five sisters, Ruby Clark, Hadley; Lois Rhea, Colleyville, Texas; Dorothy Gravatt, Clarks Mills; Ivarea Campbell and her husband Merle, Hadley; and Treva Bratek and her husband William, Hadley; four brothers, John Roberts, Greenville; Kenneth Roberts and his wife Helen, Hadley; Robert "Alford" Roberts and his wife Dolly, also Hadley; and Donald Roberts and his wife Janet, Saegertown, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Bonnie and Beverly Ann Roberts; two grandchildren, Russell R. and Linda D. Roberts; a sister, Pearl Smith; and five brothers, Floyd, LeRoy, Cecil, Malcolm and Clifford Roberts.
