Walter F. Buterbaugh Walter F. Buterbaugh, West Salem Township, died Thursday (12-26-02) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. He was 88. Obituary information was incomplete.
BUTERBAUGH Julia 'Juge' Forker Sharon woman owned former clothing store A funeral service will be held Saturday for Julia "Juge" Forker, 558 Boyd Drive, Hermitage, formerly of 1315 Yahres Ave., Sharon. She died at 11:11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 77. Mrs. Forker was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Sharon to Fred Ansley Service and Anna Vaughn Service. A graduate of Sharon High School and Connecticut College For Women, she was owner and operator for more than 20 years of the former Dee's and Juge's clothing store in Sharon. She served on the advisory board for Shenango Valley campus of Pennsylvania State University; the board of directors for F.H. Buhl Club; and the Mercer County unit of American Cancer Society, all Sharon. She also belonged to Sharon Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Sharon Country Club, Meals-on-Wheels of the Shenango Valley, Silver Lake Tennis Association and was a founding member of the Sharon Sewing Club. She was a lifelong active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon. Her husband, Henry Porter Forker III, whom she married in 1948, died in 1965. Surviving are: two daughters, Annette Weld, Ontario, N.Y.; and Julia Buhl Forker, College Park, Md.; two sons, Thomas S. Forker, Havertown, Pa.; and Charles Lee Forker, Phoenix; and 10 grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Henry P. "Chick" Forker IV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Buhl Farm Trust, 28 N. Pine St., Sharon 16146.
FORKER Mildred Frances Cook Furey Fredonia woman was Westinghouse retiree Mildred Frances Cook Furey, Greystone Estates, Fredonia, formerly of 321 W. Venango St., Mercer, died at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 91. Mrs. Furey was born Sept. 26, 1911, in Mercer, to Charles B. Cook and Anna Dahn Cook. She retired as a coil winder from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Mrs. Furey was a member of Mercer United Methodist Church. Her husband, Charles Furey Jr., whom she married on Dec. 13, 1932, passed away on Nov. 18, 1939. Surviving are: two daughters, Janet M. VanWoert, Mercer; and Jean F., wife of Donald Montgomery, Chester, Va.; a son, Robert J. Furey, husband of Kathleen, Mercer; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marie Slater.
FUREY William J. 'Gabby' Grabosky S. Py man was retired electrician, Army veteran A funeral will be held today for William J. "Gabby" Grabosky, of 2455 Anchorage Road, South Pymatuning Township. He died at 1:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 79. Mr. Grabosky was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Windber, Pa., to John and Nellie Ocelvany Grabosky. He graduated from Sharon High School on June 5, 1940. Mr. Grabosky served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in France and Germany during World War II. After his discharge from the Army, he entered school to become an electrician. He entered the union in 1948 and received a 50-year membership in 1998, even though he retired in 1985. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Hickory 6166, Hermitage; and American Legion Post 162, Sharpsville, for more than 35 years. Mr. Grabosky was also a member of the Faithful Club of Hartford; Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Valley Lodge 810 since 1980, for which he was a Masonic education teacher and Tyler for the lodge. His wife, the former Eva Barrow, whom he married in 1949, died Jan. 6, 1993. Surviving are several stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Grabosky was preceded in death by his brother, John J. Grabosky.
GRABOSKY Mary E. McLaughlin Hermitage woman owned Erie beauty salon Mary E. McLaughlin, of 47 Hermitage Hills Apartments, Hermitage, formerly of Ormond Avenue in Sharon, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Christmas morning (12-25-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 73. Mrs. McLaughlin was born May 30, 1929, in West Ford, Crawford County, a daughter of Earl Thompson and Hazel Hatton Thompson. She was an alumna of the Fredonia-Delaware High School Class of 1946 and graduated from the Ora Jean Beauty Academy in Erie. Upon graduation, she was owner and operator of a beauty salon in Erie. Mrs. McLaughlin was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church in Sharon. She was a homemaker at one time and had worked for Patterson's Market on New Castle Avenue in Sharon and the W.T. Grant Store in Hermitage. She was a member for several years of the Grottoettes El Bika Grotto, Sharon. Her husband, Arthur H. McLaughlin, whom she married on June 6, 1949, survives in Hermitage. Besides her husband, she is survived by: two daughters, Mary Beth Freeble, Sharpsville; and Mrs. Donald (Shirley A.) McLean, Hermitage; one granddaughter, Amanda McLean, Greensburg, Pa.; and one brother, Bert Thompson, and his wife Marge, Jamestown. Her parents and her brother, Charles Hatton, preceded her in death.
McLAUGHLIN Calvin Henry Moody Retired welder was outdoorsman, Army vet Calvin Henry Moody, 38 Garfield St., West Middlesex, died Thursday morning, Dec. 26, 2002, in his residence. He was 78. Mr. Moody was born May 7, 1924, in Farrell, to Walter R. Moody and Olive Morton Moody. He attended New Castle School of Trades and retired as a welder in 1986 from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Moody served in the 101st Airborne unit as a paratrooper. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the National Rifle Association and was a life member of the National Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 14000. He was also a member of Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage. His wife, the former Catherine Muich Moody, whom he married on Dec. 17, 1943, survives at the residence. Also surviving are: a daughter, Sandra Fink and her husband Thomas, Brookfield; two sons, Theodore Wayne Moody, Sharon; and Gregory G. Moody, West Middlesex; two brothers, his twin, Melvin James Moody, ElCajon, Calif.; and Theodore Moody, Spring Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Marlene Lytle, and Pat Roberts, both San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Moody was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Moody.
MOODY Mary Jane Stevenson Mercer woman belonged to Legion auxiliary Mary Jane Stevenson of 239 W. Butler St., Mercer, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in her residence. She was 44. Ms. Stevenson was born Feb. 3, 1958, in Grove City, to James and Minnie Batley Stevenson. She was employed as a cook at Vocelli Pizza, Grove City, and formerly worked as a cook at the Burger King in Mercer. Ms. Stevenson belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 159, Mercer. She was of the Protestant faith. Her husband, Frank D. Ashbaugh, is deceased. Surviving are: a daughter, Michelle Stevenson, Mercer; two sons, Michael Stevenson, Mercer, and Timothy Stevenson, Slippery Rock; her mother, Minnie Stevenson, Mercer; her father, James Stevenson, Warren, Pa.; a sister, Paula Mortland, Grove City; two brothers, James Stevenson, Grove City, and Lee Stevenson, Mercer; and a grandson, Evan. Besides her husband, Frank, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Clark and Margaret Williams.
STEVENSON Frank L. Swogger Sr. Obituary was published 12-26-02 Among those preceding him in death was a son, Thomas Swogger. His wife, the former Hazel Theresa Haney, whom he married on March 6, 1943, passed away on Feb. 10, 1998. Additional information was given to The Herald.
