Charles E. Lauer Sr. Charles E. Lauer Sr., 6827 Grove St. SE, Brookfield, died Sunday (12-29-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 70. Obituary information was incomplete.
LAUER Doris J. Chapin WINSTON, Ga. -- Doris J. Chapin, 6325 Rice St., Winston, formerly of Hermitage, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday (12-26-02) in her home after an extended illness. She was 68. Obituary information was incomplete.
CHAPIN Anne Economides Anne Economides, 678 Hazelton Road, Masury, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday (12-29-02) in O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. She was 84. Obituary information was incomplete.
ECONOMIDES Julianna 'Jay' Gancsos Homemaker was a 1932 graduate of Farrell High Julianna "Jay" Gancsos of 2050 N. Water Ave., Hermitage, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (12-28-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 88. Mrs. Gancsos was born July 29, 1914, in Farrell, a daughter of George and Anna Janocko Dvoryak. Julianna was a homemaker and a 1932 graduate of Farrell High School. Her memberships included Grace Lutheran Church in Farrell, where she was a member of their COTTA Society; the church choir; and the German Ladies Aid. She was also active in the Salvation Army Senior Citizens group. Her husband, George P. Gancsos, whom she married on March 31, 1933, died Nov. 6, 1997. Survivors include: one son, Kalman George Gancsos, Hatteras, N.C.; two daughters, Jean Samol, Sharpsville; and Connie DePreta, Sharon; two sisters, Anne Parker, Farmington Hills, Mich.; and Katherine Mamone, Hermitage; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Gancsos was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Roger Samol; two brothers, George and Albert Dvoryak; and three sisters, Helen Burnace, Gertrude Miller and Margaret DeMaria. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 660 Fisher Hill, Sharon 16146.
GANCSOS W. Clarence 'Hick' Hickman 40-year Sawhill worker also played mandolin in band A funeral service will be held Tuesday for W. Clarence "Hick" Hickman, Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of Hermitage. He died of natural causes at 4:24 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 90. Mr. Hickman was born July 5, 1912, in Farrell to Clement James Hickman and Millie May Roberts Hickman. He was employed for 40 years at Sawhill Tubular Co. in Sharon, where he worked in the Finishing Department. As a Protestant and member of First Baptist Church in Sharpsville, Mr. Hickman was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent; a deacon, trustee and choir member. He also played mandolin in a family band, the "Tune Busters," who were featured on radio shows and at square dances. He enjoyed woodworking, bee-keeping, gardening and hunting. Mr. Hickman also tuned pianos and served as a scoutmaster in Sharpsville. His wife the former Edna L. Roberts, whom he married on April 20, 1934, died on Sept. 19, 1999. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Gayle) Cranford, Hermitage; a son, David N. Hickman, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Howard (Sara Velma) Freedle, Sharpsville; two grandchildren, Mrs. Thomas (Jennifer) Rhatigan, Severna Park, Md.; and Mrs. Burke (Joanna) Roberts, Camp Hill, Pa.; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Roberts and Kyra Rhatigan. Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Mildred Peterson Hurl, Edna Pearl Hoch and an infant, Elsie Hickman. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
