Today's obituaries Clayton B. Bruce Clayton B. Bruce, 1117 Emerson Ave., Farrell, died at 8:35 p.m. Friday (12-27-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 84. Obituary information was incomplete.
BRUCE Anne Economides Reyer's retiree of Masury had worked at Sharon Store A funeral service will be held Friday for Anne Economides of 678 Hazelton Road, Masury. She died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday (12-29-02) in O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. She was 84. Mrs. Economides was born July 4, 1918, in McKeesport, Pa., a daughter of James and Eva Pitsis Monogudis. She retired in 1999 from Reyer's shoe store in Sharon, where she had worked for 23 years as a retail clerk. She had also worked previously for 20 years at the former Sharon Store, which later became Kaufmann's, in downtown Sharon. Her memberships included Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Farrell, where she was active in their Philoptihos Society and the Sharon Store-Kaufmann's Retirees. In her spare time, Anne enjoyed baking. Her husband, Nick George Economides, whom she married Feb. 18, 1934, died May 4, 1972. Survivors include: one son, George Economides and his wife Janice, Masury; one sister, Victoria Cheknas, Phoenix; and one granddaughter, Nicole Economides. Besides her husband, her parents and three brothers, Louis, Steve and George Monogudis preceded her in death.
ECONOMIDES Paul Tremmel Sharon Steel retiree belonged to clubs, groups DeLAND, Fla. -- Paul Tremmel, formerly of 1324 Heinz Ave., Sharon, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, in DeLand. He was 71. Mr. Tremmel was born May 27, 1931, in Krndija, Yugoslavia, to John and Maria Koch Tremmel. He arrived in the United States in 1951 and attended Farrell High School while working for the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. Mr. Tremmel graduated from Youngstown State University, earning a degree in electrical engineering in 1961. He was an established glass blower for Oberdorf Glass Factory in Barnbach, Austria, for five years. Mr. Tremmel was a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and Ohio and served as an electrical engineer for Sharon Steel, from which he retired in 1985 after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Sharon and was affiliated with numerous clubs and organizations for many years throughout the Shenango Valley. His wife of 43 years, the former Veronica Krznar, whom he married July 4, 1959, survives. Also surviving are: two sons, Eric and Kurt Tremmel, both Tampa, Fla.; three daughters, Paula Murphy, Mebane, N.C.; Greta Tremmel, New Smyrna, Fla.; and Anita Le Beau, DeLand; four grandchildren, Spence and Taylor Tremmel, both Tampa; and Nathan and Stephen Le Beau, DeLand; three brothers, Karl and Albert Tremmel, both Farrell; and Peter Tremmel, Richfield, Ohio; and three sisters, Elizabeth Rehlinger, Canfield, Ohio; Katherine Peters, Northfield, Ohio; and Annamarie Klanac, Buffalo, N.Y. Mr. Tremmel was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. George Urban Marine, retired carpenter was formerly of Brookfield OLMSTED, Ohio -- George Urban, Olmsted, formerly of 866 Lynita Drive, Brookfield, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Olmsted Manor Care Center after an extended illness. He was 85. Mr. Urban was born April 14, 1917, in Sharon to Mike Urban and Mary Sholtis Urban. He attended Sharon High School and worked for DuPont as a carpenter for 30 years. He retired in 1982. He served as a Marine during World War II. Mr. Urban enjoyed woodworking at home and at work, as well as landscaping. His wife, the former Dorothy Garrett, whom he married April 21, 1940, survives in Olmsted. Also surviving are: two daughters, Georgette and her husband William Stiegemeyer, Garfield, Ohio; and LeVerne Halfhill, North Ridgeville, Ohio; three half sisters, Anna Ritch, Masury; Marie McCosker, Shrill, N.Y.; and Ruth Skelly, Sharon; two half brothers, Edward Kulich, Manassas, Va.; and John Kulich, Milwaukee; his grandchildren, Daniel and Kevin Halfhill and LeVerne Ferguson; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Billy Stiegemeyer.
URBAN Julianna 'Jay' Gancsos Obituary was published 12-30-02 Mrs. Gancsos is survived by seven grandchildren, Mrs. Dennis (Lori) Candiotti, Ron Samol, Michael and Brian DePreta, Mrs. Christopher (Julie) Enos, Mrs. Scott (Jill) Hooley and Mrs. Henry (Kelly) Macchio. WASIUTA Doris J. Chapin Ex-Hermitage woman lived in Ga., had daughter here WINSTON, Ga. -- A funeral service will be held Friday for Doris J. Chapin of 6325 Rice St., Winston, formerly of Hermitage. She died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in her residence after an extended illness. She was 68. She was the wife of H. Raymond Chapin. Born Tuesday, May 1, 1934, in Sharon, Mrs. Chapin was a daughter of the late Clyde and Stella Brown Knox. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Winston. Mrs. Chapin was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: a daughter, Debra, wife of David Tomko, Sharon; three sons, David, husband of Noel Chapin, Orange, Calif.; Richard Chapin, Winston; and Brian Chapin, Monett, Mo.; a sister, Clydine Watson-Dickey, Struthers, Ohio; and a brother, Don Knox, Toledo, Ohio. She is also survived by four grandchildren.
CHAPIN Helen M. Pears Emmanuel Christian member worked on farm Helen M. Pears, 41 Pears Lane, New Vernon Township, died unexpectedly at 2:08 p.m. Sunday (12-29-02) in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. She was 77. Mrs. Pears was born Aug. 16, 1925, on the family farm in New Vernon Township to Harry L. and Maude B. Steinbrook Forbes. She was a 1943 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School. A member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, she and her husband, Paul E. Pears, owned and operated the family dairy farm for many years. Mrs. Pears also was a homemaker who loved to cook and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed reading and square dancing. She was a member of the Star Promenaders Western square dance group for many years. A lifetime member of Emmanuel Christian Church, New Vernon Township, she taught Sunday school, was very active with the Vacation Bible School and served as treasurer of the church missionary society. Surviving are: her husband, whom she married Sept. 12, 1944, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Gary D. (Paula) Unangst, Sandy Lake; two sons, Richard Pears and his wife, Rose, Davidson, N.C.; and David P. Pears and his wife, Rosalie, Sandy Lake; and three grandchildren, Ashley Unangst, Liana Pears and Dalton Pears, all Sandy Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Oliver Forbes. PEARS Charles E. Lauer Sr. National Castings retiree was guard at WSJ plant A funeral Mass will be held Thursday for Charles E. Lauer Sr., 6827 Grove St., Brookfield. He passed away at 8 a.m. Sunday (12-29-02) in the skilled care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 70. Mr. Lauer was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Sharon, a son of Ernest C. Lauer Sr. and Theresa D. Kapurik Lauer. A lifelong area resident, he was a 1948 graduate of Sharon High School. Mr. Lauer retired in 1984 as a plumber and pipefitter from the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp. in Sharon, where he had been employed for 21 years. He had previously worked for 13 years with Local 225 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters union in Warren, Ohio. Following his retirement, Mr. Lauer was a security guard at the Wall Street Journal plant in Shenango Township. A veteran, Mr. Lauer served with the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958, and in the Reserves from 1959 to 1962. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon; and was a former member of the National Castings Bowling League at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed watching the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins on television. His wife, the former Shirley M. Sanders, whom he married Nov. 15, 1952, survives at home. Also surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Clifford "Kip" (Debra A.) Elliott, Fowler; and Patricia A. Roth, Sharon; one son, Charles E. Lauer Jr., Brookfield; and five sisters, Mrs. Albert (Anna Mae) Dzurinda, Hermitage; Louise Bukovinsky, Avella, Pa.; Mrs. John (Marian) Najdusak Sr., Hubbard; Frances "Franny" Battyanyi, Sharon; and Mrs. Frank (Rose Marie) Faylo, Farrell. He also leaves five grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Lisa M. Lauer, Nicole M. Roth, James C. Elliott, Brittany M. Roth and Kayla M. King. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cheryl A. Lauer; and one brother, Ernest C. HOFFMAN Kathleen Ann Roba Former Sharon woman belonged to St. Anthony's Kathleen Ann Roba, Coolspring Township, formerly of McClure Avenue in Sharon, passed away at 10:30 p.m. (12-29-02) in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township. She was 62. Miss Roba was born Aug. 29, 1940, in Sharon, a daughter of Clarence Roba and Katherine Keryan Roba. Kathleen attended Farrell area schools and was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Sharon. Surviving are cousins, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents.
ROBA Mabel G. Dignall Homemaker was oldest living member of church Mabel G. Dignall, formerly of 25 Lake St., Stoneboro, died at 11:25 p.m. Sunday (12-29-02) in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township, after an extended illness. She was 93. Mrs. Dignall was born March 13, 1909, in Stoneboro to Joseph and Isabelle Firster Heim. She attended Stoneboro schools. A homemaker, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting and loved to bake. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was the oldest living member of Lakeview Church of God, Sandy Lake Township, where she had been active in the missionary society. She married Edward Dignall on Jan. 8, 1932; he died Jan. 12, 1979. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Harry I. (Shirley) Reckhart, Stoneboro; a son, James E. Dignall and his wife, Ruth, Carlton; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Williams, Sandy Lake; a brother, Joseph Heim and his wife, Frances, Sharon; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Williams; and three sisters, Minnie Heim, Grace Higgins and Effie Caldwell.
