Today's obituaries Mary C. Altiere Hubbard homemaker was St. Patrick's member Mary C. Altiere of Hubbard, died at 8:58 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in Northside Hospital Medical Center, Youngstown. She was 91. Mrs. Altiere was born April 5, 1911, in Farrell, a daughter of Anthony and Marie Martin Ezzo. She lived most of her life in Hubbard. Mrs. Altiere, a homemaker, was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Hubbard and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also belonged to Hubbard Senior Citizens and enjoyed crocheting and arts and crafts. Her husband, Mike Altiere Sr., whom she married July 27, 1929, died Jan. 14, 1992. She leaves: two sons, Sam Altiere, Hawaii; and Michael Altiere Jr. and his wife Barbara, Cortland; four daughters, Cecelia and her husband Ralph Cooper, Hubbard; Marie and her husband Charles Burnett, Brookfield; Jean and her husband Joseph Votino, also Hubbard; and Patricia and her husband Jim Coie, Upland, Calif.; and 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. ALTIERE Augusta E. Barber Homemaker was Hickory grad, lived in Struthers YOUNGSTOWN -- Augusta E. Barber of 536 Spring St., Struthers, Ohio, formerly of what is now Hermitage, died Tuesday evening (1-7-03) in St. Elizabeth Health Center. She was 81. Mrs. Barber was born July 29, 1921, in Warren, Ohio, a daughter of Verne C. Mullen and Agnes N. Horan Mullen. She was a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area. She was a 1939 graduate of Hickory High School in what is now Hermitage. A homemaker, she was a member of the Quilting Club at Struthers Methodist Church and collected for numerous charities.
Mrs. Barber attended St. Luke's Church in Boardman, Ohio.
She leaves: her sons, Chip Barber and his wife Diane, Poland, Ohio; Ted Barber, Struthers; and William Barber and his wife Donna, Atlanta; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a daughter, Sherrell Ann Barber.
Rose I. Barker Homemaker was active in St. Michael's Byzantine A Divine Liturgy will be held Friday for Rose I. Barker, 2621 Old Hickory Court, Hermitage. She died unexpectedly at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in her residence of natural causes. She was 67. Mrs. Barker was born May 8, 1935, in Sharon to George Vasko and Mary Czcholnya Vasko. She was a 1953 graduate of Sharon High School. A homemaker, Mrs. Barker was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, where she belonged to its Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, Rosary Society, choir and catering group. She was also a member of Hickory Women's Club and served on the Board of Regents of Julia F. Buhl Girls Club. Her husband, Thomas E. Barker, whom she married Oct. 4, 1958, survives. Also surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Janet) MacInnis, Asheville, N.C.; and Mrs. John (Linda) Murray, Hermitage; two sons, James Barker and his wife Donna, Nashville, Tenn.; and David Barker and his wife Gina, Lake Zurich, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Stewart (Martha) Stratter, Mount Laurel, N.J.; and Helen Gajda, Raleigh, N.C.; four brothers, George Vasko and his wife Florence, Farrell; John Vasko and his wife Ann, Hubbard; Nicholas Vasko and his wife Eileen, Northfield, Ohio; and William Vasko and his wife Carolyn, Hermitage; and two grandchildren, Matthew Barker and Joseph Clark. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her parents.

DUNN Harold Gothie Air Force vet served in WWII, lived in Hermitage A funeral service will be held Friday for Harold Gothie, 2105 Wakefield Drive, Hermitage. He died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in his home after an extended illness. He was 78. Mr. Gothie was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Delano, Pa., to Tom and Mary Derr Gothie. He worked as a postman for 10 years in the Shenango Valley and later was employed for 10 years by Mercer County Board of Assistance. An Air Force veteran, Mr. Gothie served for 14 years, participating in the Pacific theater of operations during World War II. He enjoyed working in his gardens. His wife, the former Anna Shannon, whom he married April 21, 1957, died Dec. 25, 1999. He is survived by two nephews, Michael Derr and Ralph Derr, both of Tamaqua, Pa. Besides his wife, Mr. Gothie was preceded in death by his parents.
GOTHIE Paul Willard Howe Native countian lived in Calif., had relatives in area LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. -- Paul Willard Howe, Lake Forest, formerly of Erie, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, in Saddleback Memorial Hospital of pancreatic cancer. He was 88. Mr. Howe was born March 17, 1914, in Mercer County to Oran Craig Howe and Hessie Nutt Howe. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Tyrian-Commonwealth Lodge 362, Erie; and Local 506 of UE, where he practiced as a welder for more than 30 years. Mr. Howe was a wonderful carpenter and woodworker, spending much time in his retirement years making furniture that he generously gave to friends and family. His wife, the former Minerva Davis, whom he married May 22, 1935, survives at home in Lake Forest. Also surviving are: a daughter, Linda Marie Howe Garriz and her husband Lino, also Lake Forest; and many nieces and nephews, many of whom live in the Shenango Valley area. Mr. Howe was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Kilgore; and a brother, Melvin Howe. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. PST today (1-9-03) in El Toro Memorial Park, Lake Forest, with interment to follow.

LEAVENS Jessica Noelle Reiber Wilmington grad played sports, taught in church Jessica Noelle Reiber, 231 Indian Run Road, New Wilmington, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center following a aneurysm. She was 18. Jessica was born Jan. 27, 1984, in Grove City to Daniel Hutchison Reiber and Paula Dawn Atwell Reiber. As a student at Wilmington High School, she played varsity basketball and was on the girls softball team. She graduated with the school's Class of 2002. Jessica was a student at Butler County Community College, pursuing a career in radiology. She was employed by New Castle Country Club and Joseph A. Banks of Prime Outlets of Grove City, Pine Township. An active member of Volant United Methodist Church, she taught junior church. Surviving are: Jessica's mother, Paula Reiber, of the residence; Jessica's boyfriend, Joshua Ligo, New Wilmington; her paternal grandparents, Clarence W. Reiber and his wife Miriam, New Wilmington; her maternal grandmother, Jean Greggs Atwell, Grove City; two brothers, Joshua D. Reiber and Jacob P. Reiber, both at home; and five sisters, Amber and her husband Kevin Marett, Volant; Amanda and her husband Sam Koi, Eastbrook, Pa.; Leah Williams, Anchorage, Alaska; Lisa Reiber, Lewisburg, Pa.; and Juliana Reiber, at home. Jessica was preceded in death by her father, who died July 16, 2001; her paternal grandmother, June Hutchison Reiber; and her maternal grandfather, Donald C. Atwell. REIBER James F. Schrader Jr. Greenville man was store assistant manager James F. Schrader Jr. of 91 Shenango St., Greenville, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in his home of natural causes. He was 61. Mr. Schrader was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Fairview Township to James F. Schrader Sr. and Adelaide T. Taylor Schrader. He retired from the Wine and Spirits Shoppe in Greenville Plaza, where he was an assistant manager. Mr. Schrader was a member of Coolspring Presbyterian Church in Fairview Township. He served with the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Italian Home Club in Greenville. Surviving are: one son, Mark Schrader, Greenville; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Michelle) Hall, Murrysville, Pa.; one brother, Richard Schrader and his wife Linda, Meadville; two sisters, Mrs. Gary (Jean) Stamp and Mrs. Daniel (Marilyn) Jones, both Sandy Lake; and four grandchildren, William, Nichole, Kaitlynn and Georgia. Mr. Schrader was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jamie Schrader; and a brother, William Schrader.
SCHRADER Carl J. Stefanowicz Decorated vet of 2 wars was maintenance worker Carl J. Stefanowicz, 1491 Griswold St., Hermitage, passed away at 1:04 a.m. Wednesday (1-8-03) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 76. Mr. Stefanowicz was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Farrell, a son of Michael Stefanowicz and Anna Gustus Stefanowicz. Carl attended St. Adalbert's Parochial Grade School and was a 1944 alumnus of Farrell High School. He retired in 1990 from the former Mellon Bank in Hermitage and Sharon, where he had been a maintenance supervisor for nearly 40 years. He was later employed by the Verland Foundation in Hermitage, as a maintenance worker for about 10 years. Carl had also worked at one time for Mercer County Housing Authority; and for Sharon Window Cleaning for 20 years. He previously owned and operated Building Maintenance Service in Hermitage for more than 10 years. Earlier in life, Carl worked for Brookfield Dairy and the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 and American Legion Post 160, both Farrell. He was also a former member of Sharon Lions Club. A decorated war veteran, Carl served with the Merchant Marines during World War II and later with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, having been stationed in Japan and in the European theater of operations. He leaves his wife, the former Kathryn Visnich, whom he married Feb. 27, 1960, in Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon. Also surviving are: one daughter, Jeanan Deibert and her husband Michael, Seneca, Pa.; one son, David B. Stefanowicz, at home; one brother, Paul Stefanowicz, Sharon; and three grandchildren, Tristin Deibert, Trevor Deibert and Justin Stefanowicz. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward Stefanowicz; and twin sisters, Stella Sirant and Frances Lenarcic.
