Patrick A. Reardon Mercer man was Army veteran, talented athlete Patrick Andrew Reardon, a resident of 317 E. Market St., Mercer, since 1996, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday (2-2-03) at his home after an extended illness. He was 56. Mr. Reardon was born Oct. 5, 1946, in Pittsburgh, to Edward Patrick Reardon and Mary Ellen Keeling. He married Jean Evans Reardon on March 24, 1979. Mr. Reardon was a retired sales representative from the Reynolds Tobacco Youngstown office. His family attends Mercer Free Methodist Church. An Army veteran, Mr. Reardon graduated from Bethany College. He was a talented athlete during high school and college, playing baseball and football. Surviving are his wife; two children, Casey and Cory J. "C.J." Reardon, at home; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Melissa and their son Jack, near Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Judy Reardon of Indianapolis, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents.
REARDON Frank Matetich Former Westinghouse employee served in WWII A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday (2-4-03) for Mr. Frank Matetich, of 86 Stone Ridge Blvd. in Hermitage, who passed away unexpectedly at 2:11 a.m. on Saturday (2-1-03) following a brief illness. He was 89. He was born in Struthers, Ohio, on Dec. 28, 1913, the son of Matt and Josephine Percic Matetich. Mr. Matetich graduated in 1934 from what is now Mohawk High School in Bessemer (Lawrence County). He was employed for 31 years at the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he was a tester in the H-80 building. Mr. Matetich was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon and a member of the Westinghouse Retirees Association. Mr. Matetich was of Croatian descent and belonged to the Croatian Fraternal Union in Farrell. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the singing Vesilachi. During World War II, he served with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the 37th Division. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his greatest love was his family and friends. His wife, the former Eleanor Simari, whom he married on May 20, 1950, survives at home. He also leaves a daughter, Grace Ann Popeck and her husband, Michael, of the Upper St. Clair area of Pittsburgh; one son, Mr. Frank J. Matetich and his wife, Linda, of Cortland, Ohio; two sisters, Amelia Bacic of Surprise, Ariz., and Olga Dwornek of Tritton Falls, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Michael and Brian Popeck. Three sisters, Dora Yusich, Ruby Oshaben, Lottie Puharich and two brothers, John and William Matetich, preceded him in death.

NEWBY Harriet A. Kelley Wheatland woman enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping Harriet A. Kelley, 72, of 73 Mercer Ave., Wheatland, died of natural causes at 5:23 p.m. Saturday (2-1-03) at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. She was the widow of Harry Kelley, whom she married on July 2, 1966. He died June 30, 1971. Born in Jefferson Township, Mercer County, on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Luella (VanHorn) Diefenderfer Sr. She worked as a housekeeper at the former Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital in Farrell for several years. She had also worked at the former Plaza Donut Shop in Hermitage for many years. She was a member of Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church in Wheatland. Harriet attended Sharon schools. She enjoyed children, shopping, baking and cooking. She is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Worley, Brookfield; a sister, Pauline Fabich, Richland, Pa.; a sister, N. Jean, wife of Sam Persing, Lecanto, Fla.; a half-sister, Trudy Anderson, Florida; a half-sister, Sally Diefenderfer, Georgia; and a half-brother, James Diefenderfer, Lutz, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a half-brother, Carl Diefenderfer Jr.
