Today's obituaries James G. Eder Stoneboro man had been councilman and mayor James G. Eder, of 62 Franklin St., Stoneboro, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday (2-08-03) in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township. He was 57. Mr. Eder was born April 6, 1945, to Charles Leo and Helen Mae (Greer) Eder. He was a 1963 graduate of Lakeview High School and a 1967 graduate of Grove City College. He worked at Magnetics in Sandy Lake and was a rural mail carrier, as well as part owner of the Greer Store in Stoneboro from 1981 to 1991. He served in the U.S. Army and in the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Greenville; the American Legion; the Knights of Columbus in Stoneboro and Mercer and was a past councilman and mayor of Stoneboro. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Richard (LeAnne) Grinnell of Stoneboro and Colonel Mary Kaye Eder of Springfield, Va.; nieces and nephews Mrs. Stephen (Cam) Armour, Fredonia, Mrs. Mark (Kori) Kay, Stoneboro, Mrs. Travis (Richelle) Opitz, Stoneboro, Michael E. Grinnell and Evan Grinnell of Stoneboro; and six great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. EDER Marietta (Mari) Jean Robinson Sharon woman owned salon, transcript business Marietta (Mari) Jean Robinson, of South Oakland Avenue, Sharon, passed away at home Saturday (2-08-03) after a short battle with cancer. She was 44. Mari was born on Jan. 14, 1959, in Riverdale, Md., to Michael and Donna Yassem. The family returned to Sharon in 1965. She attended Our Lady of Fatima School and spent two years at Kennedy Catholic High School. She graduated high school in Hinesville, Ga. Mari resided in southern California for several years, starting a medical transcription service and operating it for several years. She came back home to Sharon in 1990, where she started Letter Perfect Medical Transcription, servicing several local doctors. In 1995, she married Gary L. Robinson. She and her husband became the owners/operators of EuroSun Tanning Salon in Sharon last year. She was the eighth member of New Life Baptist Church in New Wilmington. She enjoyed an active church life and participated in many church camps and functions. Mari touched the lives of so many people throughout her life. She always had a wonderful smile and a heart filled with love that so many of us were privileged to feel. She took the time to worry and care for others. Her many friends and family will miss this angel dearly. She is survived by her husband and her two sons, Nicholas and Eric Huffman, all of Sharon. Also surviving are: her father, Michael, of Sharon; her sister Deborah and husband Raymond Wilson of Oakland, Ore.; her sister, Michelle Henning of West Middlesex; her brother Mark and his wife Tracey of Sharon; her brother-in-law Samuel and his wife Lori Robinson of Edinburg; her sister-in-law Saundra and her husband Garry Shields of New Castle; her nieces Jordyn Robinson, Amanda Hennings, Sabrina Yassem and Tiffany Porterfield; her nephews, Dennis and Bradley Shields, Joseph Shebeck Jr. and Matthew Henning, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna J. Bortner (Yassem). In lieu of flowers, Mari has requested donations be made to the Hospice Home Care Program at Sharon Regional Health System.
ROBINSON Mildred M. Thompson Hermitage woman was LPN, homemaker Mildred M. Thompson, of 569 Charlotte Drive, Hermitage, formerly of Prindle Street, Sharon, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Friday (2-07-03) in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township. She was 77. Mrs. Thompson was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Aliquippa, Pa., to Steve and Sara Musulin. She attended Aliquippa High School. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a licensed practical nurse for four or five years in a T.B. home in Aliquippa. A homemaker, she was an active member of Covenant United Presbyterian Church in Sharon. Surviving are: her husband, Ross E. Thompson, whom she married Aug. 8, 1953; a daughter, Lori Lynne Mancino and her husband David and a step-daughter, Carol Ann Rebich of Beaver Falls, Pa.; a son, Ross E. Thompson of Sharpsville; two sisters, Ann Turlovitch and her husband, George, Center Township, Pa., and Mary Young of Rochester, Pa.; and a brother, Michael Musulin and his wife, Paulette, of Baden, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, George and Steve Musulin.
THOMPSON Helen L. Marcus Sharon woman owned Clark House until 1970 A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday (2-12-02) for Helen L. Marcus, 589 Cedar Ave., Sharon, who passed away at 7:55 a.m. Friday (2-7-03) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 81. Mrs. Marcus was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Sharon, to Andrew Polkovitch and Mary Messaros Polkovitch. She graduated from Sharon High School in 1939. She was the owner and operator of the Clark House in Clark for 17 years before retiring in 1970. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon, and the Junior Women's Club and Women's Club of Sharon. Surviving are: her husband, Joseph T. Marcus, whom she married Sept. 7, 1940; two sons, Thomas J. Marcus, Canton, Ohio; and Terrance L. Marcus, Coral Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary Nuspl, Julia Sarsanella, and Anne Marstellar; and three brothers, Andrew, Michael and John Polkovitch. MARCUS Rosemary Pearce Rosemary Pearce, of 31 Fennell Road, West Middlesex, passed away peacefully at 10:23 a.m. Saturday (2-08-03) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. She was 70. Obituary information was incomplete.
PEARCE S. Rebecca Hancock Ferguson Homemaker belonged to Sharpsville church, quilted S. Rebecca Hancock Ferguson of Woodland Place, Inc., Coolspring Township, formerly of Hermitage, died at 9 p.m. Friday (2-7-03) in the nursing home following an extended illness. She was 90. Mrs. Ferguson was born July 10, 1912, in Blairsville, Pa., to Clark and Cora Stokes Gess. She belonged to Sharpsville Church of the Nazarene in Sharpsville. Mrs. Ferguson was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Faye L. Lambert of Greenville; a son, Donald J. Hancock of Alamagordo, N.M.; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbert Hancock, whom she married in 1932, and who died in 1989; and also her second husband, Richard P. Ferguson, whom she married Sept. 29, 1989, who died in April 1997; her parents; a daughter, Phyllis Hancock; three brothers, Arlie, George and Floyd Gess; and five sisters, Laura Saxon, Anna Schellhammer, Amy Gess, Clarketta Smeltzer and Cora Eakin.
FERGUSON Ralph Carrier Jefferson Township man was WE retiree, farmer Ralph Carrier of Lake Road, Jefferson Township, passed away at 5:25 p.m. Friday (2-7-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 95. Mr. Carrier was born Oct. 7, 1907, in South Pymatuning Township to Henry A. and Maggie Locke Carrier. He attended Fruit Mill School and lived all his life in Jefferson Township, Mercer County. Mr. Carrier worked at American Sheet and Tin Mill in Farrell from 1923 to 1939 as a roller. He later worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Corp., Sharon, as a craneman for 27 years before retiring in November 1972. He is also a lifelong farmer in Mercer County. Mr. Carrier belonged to the Sharon Westinghouse Retirees Association. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Zuhosky, whom he married June 28, 1934; two daughters, Henrietta Vaughn and her husband Clyde, Forth Worth, Texas; Loretta Mudrak and her husband Raymond, Titusville, Fla.; one son, Ralph Steven Carrier, his caregiver at home; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter.
CARRIER Erasmo Piccirilli Erasmo Piccirilli, of 75 Milliken Ave., Sharpsville, passed away peacefully at 3 p.m. Saturday (2-08-03) at his residence with his family by his side. He was 98. Obituary information was incomplete.
PICCIRILLI Edmund James Little Edmund James Little, 218 Newman St., Springville, N.Y., formerly of Sharpsville, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Friday (2-7-03) in Bertrand Chaffey Hospital, Springville. He was 91. Obituary information remains incomplete.
LITTLE Catherine C. 'Katie' Fustos Homemaker was doll collector, watched news Catherine C. "Katie" Fustos, Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, formerly of Sharpsville, died at 5:25 p.m. Friday (2-7-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of natural causes after an extended illness. She was 88. Mrs. Fustos was born May 23, 1914 in Ronco, Pa. to Joseph Velkey and Veronica Derner Velkey. She was a homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sharpsville, for 50 years. She was a member of Bess Eckles Sunday school class and a member of the United Methodist Church Women's Society. Mrs. Fustos was an avid doll collector and loved to watch the news. She married to Alexander "Shagg" Fustos on Oct. 25, 1931; he died June 5, 1987. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. James (Shirley) Stafford, Sharpsville; Mrs. Richard (Betty) Atwood, Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. Robert (Bonnie) Faller, Sharpsville; one son, Mr. James D. Fustos and his wife Joan, Sharon; four brothers, Michael Velkey, Mich.; Thomas Velkey, Mich.; Andrew Velkey, Pensacola, Fla.; and Victor Velkey, Calf.; several nieces and nephews; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Alexander E. "Bugs" Fustos; two sisters, Mary Kmetz and Margaret Palanski; and four brothers, Joseph, John, Albert and Steve Velkey.
FUSTOS Mary A. Minnis Former bank teller born in Czechoslovakia Mary A. Minnis, of 110 Fredonia Road, Hempfield Township, formerly of 161 N. High St., Greenville, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday (2-08-03) at UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 88. Mrs. Minnis was born April 28, 1914, in Levoca, Czechoslovakia, to Joseph Kosarsky and Mary Kish. She came to the United States in 1923. A 1933 graduate of the former St. Michael High School in Greenville, Mrs. Minnis worked as a teller at Greenville Savings Bank. She retired in 1979. Previously she worked at First National Bank and Greenville Medical Center. She was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, where she was past president of the Altar Rosary Society, former Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher and former St. Michael Booster Club member. Mrs. Minnis was a volunteer for 25 years at Greenville Hospital and a former Democratic Committee woman in Greenville. On Feb. 20, 1941, she married D. William Minnis, who died Dec. 5, 2000. Surviving are: two daughters, Marianne Leskovac of Pittsburgh and Susan Pence of Erie; a sister, Sister Joseph Mary Kosarsky, R.S.M., of Erie; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Kosarsky. Donations may be made to St. Michael School Endowment Fund, 85 N. High St., Greenville, 16125.
MINNIS Leo R. Nelitz Poland native worked for Sharon Steel, raced pigeons Leo R. Nelitz, of Nugent's Convalescent Home, Hermitage, formerly of Mercer-West Middlesex Road, West Middlesex, died at 8:40 a.m. Friday (2-7-03) at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 73. Mr. Nelitz was born April 8, 1929, to Gottlieb and Emilie Nelitz in Poland. He attended schools in Poland and came to the United States in 1952. He worked for the former Sharon Steel Corporation for 30 years as a water tender in the utilities department. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #517 of Sharpsville and was a member of the New Castle Scottish Rite Consistory. He also was an avid flying pigeon racer. He is survived by one daughter, Helen L. Huffman, Muncy, Pa.; two sons, Leo E. and his wife Patricia Nelitz, West Middlesex; and Gary W. Nelitz, Transfer; two sisters, Emma Englebrecht and Lani Holldobler, both Germany; one brother, Emil Nelitz, Germany; four grandchildren, Jason Nelitz, West Middlesex; Ryan Nelitz and Nathan Nelitz, both Transfer; and Cristi Huffman, West Middlesex. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annaliese (Diermaier) Nelitz, whom he married on March 10, 1951. She died on July 4, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Eighth St., Sharpsville, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning (2-6-03) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 54. Mrs. Jackson was born Nov. 1, 1948, in Pennsboro, W.Va., the daughter of Arley C. and Beatrice Cromer Shepherd. She graduated from high school in West Union, W.Va. Mrs. Jackson was a loving mother and sister. Her husband, James Jackson, passed away in 1991. She leaves two sons, Christopher A. Jackson, at home; and James L. Jackson, Huntington, W.Va.; three brothers, Adron Shepherd, Guthrie, Ky.; Danny Shepherd, Pennsboro; and Stuart Shepherd, Pennsboro; and two sisters, Nettie Licot, Pennsboro; and Linda Barnard, Middleboro, W.Va. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Scott A. Jackson; and a brother, Arley C. Shepherd Jr.

Mr. Frank Joseph Gagliano Sr. of Bessemer, Pa., died at 5:23 p.m. Friday (2-7-03) at Jameson Health System in New Castle. He was 74. He was born on Friday, Oct. 19, 1928 in Hillsville, Pa., the son of Mr. Joseph Gagliano and Mrs. Mary (Gugliotta) Gagliano. He was employed by Martin Trucking as a truck driver. Prior to that he operated heavy equipment for Mooney Bros. He attended Bessemer High School. Mr. Gagliano served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post 638, the Bessemer Croatian Club, Johnson Club, the Teamsters Union, S.N.P.J., the Bessemer Coon & Fox Club, the Mahoning Sportsmen's Club, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also attended Christ the King St. Anthony. He is survived by one son, Mr. Frank Joseph Gagliano Jr., Bessemer; three daughters, Ms. Carol Mercer, Lancaster, S.C.; Mrs. Linda Smith, Sharpsville; Ms. Christine Gagliano, Bessemer; three stepdaughters, Ms. Debbie Kaylor, Bessemer; Mrs. Robin Grebenz, New Castle; and Mrs. Rhonda Ferra, Fairmont, W.Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Rapon, Bradenton, Fla.; Mrs. Josephine Aguaviva, Butler; Mrs. Constance Pachner, New Middletown, Ohio; one brother, Mr. James Gagliano, Bessemer; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Jean Heasley, who died last year; his second wife, Faye Kaylor, who died in 1986; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Errera, Mrs. Frances Santillo and Mrs. Virginia Cashabera; and a brother, Neal Gagliano. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Bessemer Volunteer Fire Department.
GAGLIANO Albert D'Onofrio Hermitage grocery owner was Notre Dame member Albert D'Onofrio, Whispering Oaks, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter, Angela, following an extended illness Saturday (2-8-03) at 1:35 a.m. He was 81. Mr. D'Onofrio was born May 27, 1921, to August and Angeline Morocco D'Onofrio in Farrell. A graduate of Farrell High School, Mr. D'Onofrio was the owner and operator of D'Onofrio Food Center, Hermitage. He was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. Mr. D'Onofrio was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and his family was his greatest joy. He enjoyed boating and horseback riding and also served with the Merchant Marines. Surviving is his wife, Antoinette "Nettie" Marino, whom he married July 24, 1950; two daughters, Angela D'Onofrio, Hermitage; Maria Buzzeo and her husband Michael, Freehold, N.J.; three sons, August and his wife Elaine, Poland, Ohio; Salvatore "Sal," Jefferson Township; Joseph and his wife Karen, Hermitage; two sisters, Loretta Stubbs and Mary Joyner, both of John XXIII Home, Hermitage; one brother, Edward and his wife Rose, Florida; and 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frederick and Domonic D'Onofrio; and one sister, Yolanda Stabile.
D'ONOFRIO Mary M. 'Peg' Giebner Ex-Sandy Lake woman had worked at Polk Center Mary M. "Peg" Giebner of 168 High St., Cochranton, formerly of Sandy Lake, died unexpectedly at 11:40 p.m. Friday (2-7-03) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 90. She was born March 17, 1912 in Mill Creek Township, Mercer County, to Francis B. and Mary L. (Hurd) McCracken. She was a 1930 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School. Mrs. Giebner retired in 1972 after 17 years of service from Polk State School, now Polk Center, in the dietary department. She was a lifelong member of the Fidelis Sunday school class and the Ladies Aid Society. She was Past Grand of the former Princess Rebekah Lodge #442, Sandy Lake, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Stoneboro Chapter #110. Mrs. Giebner was a member of the Sandy Lake Bowling League. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to crochet and enjoyed bird watching. She married Robert Byrl Giebner on June 24, 1931; he preceded her in death Dec. 4, 1992. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert L. (Shirley) DeVore, Cochranton; and Mrs. William I. (Barbara) Slater, Stoneboro; one daughter-in-law, Joanne Giebner, Sandy Lake; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Edwin Giebner; one great-grandson, Devin DeVore; four brothers and two sisters. GIEBNER Harold M. "Pug" Richardson Sharon grad, Greenville resident was WE retiree Harold M. "Pug" Richardson of John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of 44 Davis St., Greenville, died at 11:40 p.m. Friday (2-7-03) in the home. He was 81. Mr. Richardson was born July 12, 1921, in Sharon, to Andrew Richardson and Elizabeth Smith Richardson. He married Elizabeth J. "Betty" Hawks Richardson on Oct. 24, 1942. He was a 1939 graduate of Sharon High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. He was involved in the liberation of the Philippines at Luzon and later, for his service in New Guinea, he received the Bronze Star. He retired in 1980 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Corp., Sharon, with 41 years of service as a fitter in the transformer department. He was a member of Eureka Lodge 290, F&AM, Greenville. He was also a member of the Reynolds Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7549. He is survived by four grandchildren, Kevin Richardson, Los Angeles; Tracey Lynn Richardson, Okla.; Dustin Wayne and Eric Andrew Richardson, both Greenville; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Driscoll, Hermitage; and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife who died on June 4, 1986; two sons, Wayne Lee and Harold Keith Richardson; two brothers, William and Ralph Richardson; and two sisters, Isabelle R. Thompson and Nellie R. Kelley. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Memorial Fund of John XXIII Home, Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage.
