Michael Swallow Jr.
WWII Navy vet was WE retiree, South Py farmer

Michael Swallow Jr., 3965 Seneca Road, South Pymatuning Township, died at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of natural causes after an extended illness. He was 88.

Mr. Swallow was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Pricedale, Pa., to Michael Swallow and Pearl Puskar Swallow.

He was a welder, working in the maintenance department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., retiring in 1979.

A Navy veteran, Mr. Swallow served during World War II.

Mr. Swallow was a member of South Pymatuning (Township) Community Church and Westinghouse Retirees Association.

As a lifelong farmer, he loved the outdoors and gardening. He enjoyed his time with his family.

His wife, the former Katherine Polanski, whom he married Aug. 29, 1942, survives at home.

Also surviving are: three daughters, Katherine, wife of Robert Horn, Bethel Park; Pearl, wife of Kenneth Sampson, Sharpsville; and Beverly, wife of John Butch, Brookfield; two sisters, Nell Yourga, Sharpsville; and Mary Trembush, Sharon; and four grandchildren, Suzanne (Butch) Heckroth, David Horn, Carrie Butch and Christina Sampson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ann Swallow; and three brothers, John, Dan and Harry Swallow.

E. Viola Scheidemantle Johns

Ex-Blacktown homemaker belonged to GC church

E. Viola Scheidemantle Johns, Grove City, formerly of Blacktown, Springfield Township, died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Grove Manor, Grove City, following an extended illness. She was 89.

Mrs. Johns was born Feb. 20, 1913, in Ellwood City to Lewis Henry Scheidemantle and Mary Ann Wiley Scheidemantle.

She was a graduate of Shenango High School Class of 1930 and a homemaker.

As a member of First Baptist Church in Grove City, Mrs. Johns belonged to the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

Her husband, Stean S. Johns, whom she married Feb. 15, 1940, died April 22, 1984.

Surviving are: a daughter, Donna, wife of George L. Ford, Mercer; and four grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mildred R. Price.

Catherine E. Weber, formerly of 561 Charlotte Drive, Hermitage, died at 9 p.m. Thursday (2-13-03) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 83.
