Cynthia R. Huntley Homemaker lived in Masury A funeral service will be held Friday for Cynthia R. Huntley, 699 Grover Ave., Masury. She passed away on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2003, in UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh. She was 41. Cynthia was born Dec. 9, 1961, in Buffalo, N.Y., to James E. Huntley and Shirley Carter Huntley. An alumna of Grover Cleveland High School in Buffalo, she attended Buffalo State College. Cynthia was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God in Buffalo. Surviving are: one daughter, Lyniece Mitchell, Masury; Cynthia's parents, also of Masury; her brother, Keith Huntley, Springfield, Va.; her aunt Ruth, wife of Joe Pulliam, Farrell; her uncle Richard, husband of Ola Huntley, Los Angeles; a goddaughter, Tia Hartzog, Buffalo; and a godson, Carl Grant, Grand Island, N.Y. She was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Huntley; and a sister, Marjorie Borden.
HUNTLEY Nettie L. Beers Homemaker formerly of Masury lived in Sharon Nettie L. Beers of 161 N. Water Ave., Sharon, formerly of Masury, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday (2-23-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 86. Mrs. Beers was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Ford City, a daughter of Joseph Huff Custer and Mary Louise Leiblick Custer. She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. Her husband, Calvin Martin Beers, whom she married July 4, 1935, died June 4, 1972. Survivors include: three sons, Calvin Beers Jr., Charles L. Beers and Barry E. Beers, all Masury; two daughters, Ruby L. Perry, Hadley; and Kathryn J. Sanders, Sharon; three brothers, Robert Custer, Medina, Ohio; Russell Custer, Masury; and Jacob Custer, Rimersburg, Pa.; a sister, Vella Holmes, Lakewood, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Gertrude "Mae" Slama and Elizabeth Ball; five brothers, Milford, Elmer, Arthur, Silas and Clarence Custer; and two sisters, Sadie Garver and Mildred Slama. BEERS Kathleen D. Slattery Purash Farrell homemaker was Episcopal church member Kathleen D. Slattery Purash, 495 Beechwood Ave., Farrell, died of natural causes at 10:57 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in her home after an extended illness. She was 57. Mrs. Purash was born May 24, 1945, in Albion to Timothy Slattery and Elnora Bert Slattery. A homemaker, Kathleen enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in the Clarion area. She attended Sharon schools and was a member of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Hermitage. Kathleen was an avid Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed watching the Food Network cooking channel on television. Her husband, Paul H. "Red" Purash, whom she married May 20, 1964, survives at home. Also surviving are: four daughters, Kimberly Duffy, wife of Brian, Alliance, Ohio; Karen Wedge, wife of Kurt, Hubbard; Kelly Purash, at home; and Kassy Lampkins, wife of Lester, Washington, D.C.; her mother, Elnora Slattery, Farrell; and two sisters, Mary Ann Germano, Sharon; and Noreen D'Amore, wife of David, Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving are six grandchildren, four grandsons and two granddaughters, all of whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her father; three brothers, William, Thomas and Timothy Slattery; her stepfather, Delbert C. Tice; her brother-in-law, David Germano Sr.; a niece, Kathy Germano-Haun; and a stepbrother, Delbert W. Tice.
PURASH William A. Riehl WWII vet worked at PPG, belonged to Mercer church A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family for William A. Riehl, 118 Latonka Drive, Jackson Township. He died at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in his home after an extended illness. He was 81. Mr. Riehl was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Pittsburgh to William Auto Riehl and Mary Critchley Riehl. He attended Pittsburgh area schools and worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass for 38 years as a laborer. Mr. Riehl was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church; and Knights of Columbus Council 4270, both Mercer. He served during World War II in the Army. He enjoyed bowling, having played in several local leagues.
His wife, the former Dolores Kolb, died July 22, 2001.
Besides his wife, Mr. Riehl was preceded in death by his parents.
Francis 'Frank' S. Kendra Francis "Frank" S. Kendra, 108 8th Ave., Hempfield Township, died at 1:29 p.m. Monday (2-24-03) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 78. Obituary information was incomplete.
