Deacon Thomas L. Wilkins Ordained deacon was custodian, Redskins fan A funeral service will be held Saturday for Deacon Thomas L. Wilkins, 632 E. State St., Sharon. He passed away at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday (3-11-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 47. Deacon Wilkins was born March 17, 1955, in Newport News, Va., to Lillian L. Wilkins. He attended Virginia schools and, prior to his disability, was a custodian in the housekeeping department of Sharon Regional Health System. Deacon Wilkins was a member and an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church and belonged to Twins City Elks (Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks of the World) Lodge 187, both Farrell; as well as the Atlanta Club of the Shenango Valley. He was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan. His wife, the former Mattie L. Burns, whom he married May 18, 2002, survives at home. Also surviving are: one daughter, April Braxton, Hampton, Va.; two sons, Terrell M. Hicks, at home; and Thomas L. Wilkins Jr., Newport News; a stepson, DeWayne L. Burns and his wife Talanda, Farrell; his mother, Lillian L. Moore, Hampton; four brothers, Jesse Tillery and his wife Ivy, Newport News; and Milton Wilkins and his wife Selina J.; Victor Wilkins; and James Wilkins, all Hampton; five sisters, Lynn Wilkins, Newport News; Carolyn Ajibade and her husband Maury, Newport News; Priscilla Dennis, Hyattsville, Md.; Wanda Dancy and her husband Marcella, Hampton; and Patricia Golden and her husband Emmanuel, Newport News; a special aunt who helped to rear him, Elnora Tillery, Newport News; and eight grandchildren, Ashane and Anashia Braxton, both Newport News; and Diamond Burns, Tiarra Burns, DeJuan Burns, DeWayne Burns Jr., Lakyah Burns and Makyah Burns, all Farrell. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, in-laws and friends. Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by two stepsons, Ron C. Burns and Lynel Hopson.
Allen Baker Allen Baker, 1626 Farrell Terrace, Farrell, died Tuesday (3-11-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 88. Obituary information was incomplete.
Korean War Army vet was National Castings retiree Kenneth W. Sipe Sr., Volant RD3, Neshannock Falls, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, March 11, 2003, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 69. Mr. Sipe was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Neshannock Falls, Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, to Jesse Newton Sipe Sr. and Edith Mae Snyder Sipe. He attended school at Neshannock Falls Country School and retired from National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp., Sharon. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Sipe served during the Korean conflict, achieving a rank of corporal. He was a member of First United Brethren Church, Eastbrook Road, New Castle. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His wife, the former Darlene Ellen Thomas-Taylor, whom he married July 16, 1955, survives at the residence. Also surviving are: a daughter, Darla Jordan and her husband Steve, New Castle; three sons, Kenneth W. Sipe Jr. and his wife Roma, Sharon; and Michael L. Sipe and his wife Terry; and Jeffrey W. Sipe and his wife Kim, all Volant; two brothers, Jesse Newton Sipe Jr. and Merle Eugene Sipe, both Volant; three sisters, Violet Duncan, Sebring, Fla.; Dorothy Shrawder, West Middlesex; and Margaret Williamson, Volant; and 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mr. Sipe was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Melvin Sipe, Carl Sipe and William Sipe. Hallie G. Sump Orangeville U.M. member worked in salon, at Talon Hallie G. Sump, 1527 Rutledge Road, South Pymatuning Township, died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. She was 87. Mrs. Sump was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Sandy Creek Township to Findley O. Thompson and Nellie B. Williams Thompson. A graduate of the former Sheakleyville High School, she was employed at French Beauty Shop in Greenville. She was also an inspector for Talon Corp., Meadville. Mrs. Sump was a member for more than 50 years at Orangeville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, outdoors, animals and going out for automobile rides. Her husband, Harry R. Sump, whom she married Sept. 23, 1953, died Oct. 20, 1989. Surviving are: a son, Charles R. Sump, at home in South Pymatuning Township; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Mrs. Sump was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, William Thompson.
