HOLODNAK Frances McCullough Sloan Retired Hickory HS guidance counselor lived in Arizona PEORIA, Ariz. -- Frances McCullough Sloan, Sun City, Ariz., formerly of the Sharon area, died at 6:19 a.m. Sunday (10-1-00) in Home Life Care Center. She was 89. Mrs. Sloan was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Sharon to Robert and Asenath Humes McCullough. She attended Westminster College, New Wilmington; and graduated from Monmouth (Ill.) College. An educator and counselor, Mrs. Sloan was a guidance counselor at Hickory High School, Hermitage, retiring in 1972. She moved to Arizona in 1971. Mrs. Sloan was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Active in many civic and religious organizations, she established many local Bible studies and taught Sunday school in the Shenango Valley. She belonged to the Christian Woman’s Club and Order of the Eastern Star, for which she was a past matron. Mrs. Sloan was a founding and active member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Sun City. Surviving are: her husband, the Rev. Edwin G. Sloan, Sun City; two daughters, Mary Frances "Marsi" Johnsen, Paradise Valley, Ariz.; and Marjorie McCullough Wise, Cherry Hills Village, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Faith Presbyterian Church, 16000 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City 85351. Calling hours were 9:30 a.m. to time of service, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday (10-4-00) in Sun City. The Rev. Dr. Jerald B. Landrey, pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church, Sun City, officiated. Burial was in Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City.

STOWERS Norma P. Nelson Voorhees Homemaker belonged to Grove City Women’s Club Norma P. Nelson Voorhees, 33 Dogwood Lane, Pine Township, formerly of Warren, Ohio; and Fenelton, Pa., died at 4:05 a.m. Thursday (10-5-00) in Grove Manor, Grove City. She was 73. Mrs. Voorhees was born May 27, 1927, in Stafford, Kan., to Floyd and Mary Sanders Nelson. A homemaker, she was a former Girl Scout leader and a member of Grove City Women’s Club. Mrs. Voorhees also belonged to CCL, a Christian fellowship organization. Surviving are: her husband, Richard N. Voorhees, whom she married Aug. 22, 1947; three daughters, Paula Alexander and Ellen Beck, both Moneta, Va.; and Beverly Swartzlander, Dublin, Ohio; a son, Norman R. "Hank," Grove City; two brothers, William Nelson, Champion, Ohio; and Dean Nelson, Vienna; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to United Community Hospital Volunteers Oncology Renovations in care of United Community Hospital, 631 N. Broad St. Extension, Grove City 16127.

WAMPLER Janet Amelia Woods Formerly of Sharpsville, teacher was active in church PITCAIRN, Pa. -- Janet Amelia Woods, Pitcairn, formerly of Sharpsville, died at 10:04 a.m.Wednesday (10-4-00) of injuries suffered from a fall in her home. She was 69. Miss Woods was born July 30, 1931, in Pitcairn to Frederick H. and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Weller Woods. From the age of five, she was reared by Charles W. and Sara Stewart Woods, Sharpsville, until her graduation from Sharpsville High School. Miss Woods earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Maryville College and a master’s of education in reading from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. She completed graduate studies at the University of Hawaii. Miss Woods began her teaching career in September 1953, teaching elementary grades in Gateway schools in Monroeville and Pitcairn. She retired in 1993. As a longtime member of McGinnis Presbyterian Church, Pitcairn, Miss Woods served as an elder, clerk of session and member of Pitcairn Church Fellowship. For many years, she belonged to the church Women’s Club, for which she was a three-year president. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star Corinth Chapter 229, Pitcairn. Miss Woods enjoyed reading, knitting and traveling. Surviving are: a brother, Frederick H. Jr., Bexley, Ohio; and relatives in the Shenango Valley. She was preceded in death by a stepmother, Margaret Jane Roberts Woods.
