Herbert L. Cull

WWII vet was railroad journeyman car inspector

Herbert L. Cull, 2749 Tamarack Drive, South Pymatuning Township, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday (7-31-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 71.

Mr. Cull was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Sharon to John P. and Corrine Hart Cull.

He attended Sharon schools.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II in the European-African-Middle East campaign.

Retiring in 1984, he was a journeyman car inspector at Conrail, formerly Erie Lackawanna Railroad, for more than 40 years. He also was employed by General Woodcraft, Sharpsville, for more than 30 years.

Mr. Cull was a Protestant.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Arlene M. Gantz, who he married Nov. 30, 1943; two daughters, Arlene Collette Cull, Warren, Ohio; and Robin R. Dangrow, South Pymatuning Township; four sons, Herbert B., Marietta, Ga.; Gary F., Sharpsville; Kevin L., Warren; and Calvin L., South Pymatuning Township; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Dodds; two brothers, John E. Cull and Wilfred Thomas; and an infant grandson, Gary Cull.

Frieda M. Dietz

Youngstown resident, nurse, formerly lived in Masury

YOUNGSTOWN _ Frieda M. Dietz, formerly of Masury, died Tuesday evening (7-29-97) at her home in Park Vista, 1216 Fifth Ave. She was 79.

Mrs. Dietz was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Niles, Ohio, to Frederick and Maria Fising Andree.

A registered nurse and night supervisor for Trumbull County Nursing Home, she retired in 1982.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Youngstown.

Surviving are: two daughters, Janice Pellatiro, Butler; and Kay Wertman, Austintown, Ohio; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Stickle and Katherine Bowers.

Funeral was held Thursday in Austintown, with the Rev. David Kaminsky, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Youngstown, officiating. Burial was in Niles (Ohio) Union Cemetery.

John Pavcik

Sharon WE retiree belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran

John Pavcik, 2767 Hunter St., Sharpsville, died at 10:23 p.m. Wednesday (7-30-97) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, of congestive heart failure. He was 71.

Mr. Pavcik was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Sharon to John and Mary Meleky Pavcik Sr.

He attended Sharpsville schools.

He retired in 1983 as a shearman from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. after 43 years of service. He was also a sales representative for Gravely Tractors, Youngstown, for many years.

Mr. Pavcik was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage, and its planning committee, which helped building the church on Morefield Road.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Moose Lodge 276, Greenville; a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, Sharpsville; and Sharon Westinghouse Retirees Association.

He enjoyed gardening and did organic gardening for many years.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Frances A. Crouch, whom he married June 14, 1952; four sisters, Mary Sobeck, Morgan Hill, Calif.; and Sue Schuyler, Helen Ryan and Sophie Collins, all of Chico, Calif.; and three brothers, George and Joe, Chico; and Mike, Sharpsville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Ryan.

Alma Taylor

Mother of 8 had daughter in Jamestown

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. _ Alma Taylor, North Versailles, died Wednesday evening (7-30-97) in McKeesport Hospital. She was 72.

Mrs. Taylor was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Dravosburg, Pa., to Charles and Helen Miller Beitler.

She was a member of Linway United Presbyterian Church, North Versailles.

She belonged to St. Robert's Bowling League and The Jolly Girls Card Club, both North Versailles.

Surviving are: her husband, Raymond W. Taylor Sr.; three daughters, Doris Kelly, Houston; Beverly Riggs, Jamestown; Jackie Thornton, East McKeesport; five sons, Raymond W. Jr., West Newton, Pa.; David W., Robinson, Kan.; Edward, North Huntingdon, Pa.; Richard, North Versailles; and Dale, East McKeesport; two brothers, William Beitler, Coulters, Pa.; and Donald Beitler, Hutchinson, Pa.; two sisters, Elizabeth Limberg, East McKeesport; and Helen Reynolds, Forward Township, Pa.; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott David Craig Taylor, May 20, 1996; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Elizabeth Taylor, Jan 18, 1996.
