John D. Carroll

WWII pilot belonged to St. George Serbian Orthodox

YOUNGSTOWN _ Funeral will be Wednesday for John D. Carroll, 4762 Logan Arms Drive, Youngstown. He died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday (8-3-97) in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center after an extended illness. He was 73.

Mr. Carroll was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Leetonia, Ohio, to William D. and Wilda Gromley Carroll.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot, earning the rank of lieutenant.

Retiring in 1982, for 31 years he was a pilot and former vice president for Beckett Aviation, Youngstown.

Mr. Carroll was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 694, Niles, Ohio.

He belonged to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Hermitage.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Ruby Puskar, whom he married Jan. 25, 1953; a daughter, Mrs. Kelby (Sandra L.) Knoedler, Canfield, Ohio; a son, W. David, at home; a sister, Jean Corkum, Salem, Ohio; two brothers, Alvin, Columbiana, Ohio; and Ronald, Canfield; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul.

Robinson Ford Jr.

Wheatland man, FHS grad, was owner-operator of lounge

Funeral will be Friday for Robinson Ford Jr., 31 Beechwood Ave., Wheatland. He died at 8:30 p.m. Friday (8-1-97) after he was shot in his home. He was 57.

Mr. Ford was born Oct. 2, 1940, in Sharon to Robinson and Eulah Mae McPhaul Ford Sr.

He was a 1958 graduate of Farrell High School.

For nine years, Mr. Ford was the owner and operator of R and R Lounge, Farrell.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Murray Bell Post 7597, Farrell.

Mr. Ford was a Baptist.

Surviving are: three sisters, Beatrice, Wheatland; Shirley M. Riley, Montclair, N.J.; and L. Joyce Spires, Boardman, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas M. Ford.


FORD

Robinson Jr., 57, of 31 Beechwood Ave., Wheatland.

Calling hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (8-7-97) in First Baptist Church, Farrell.

Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Friday (8-8-97) in the church, with the Rev. Philip King, pastor, officiating.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Murray Bell Post 7597, Farrell.

Mary Isabel Ghost

Violinist was the last living symphony charter member

Memorial service will be Saturday for Mary Isabel Ghost, West Salem Township, formerly of 3 Penn Ave., Greenville. She died Monday morning (8-4-97) in Horizon Hospital System, Greenville. She was 95.

Mrs. Ghost was born Aug. 14, 1901, in Grove City to Ira and Mellie Osborne Eakin.

She attended Grove City College.

A violinist, she was the last surviving charter member of the original Greenville Symphony.

Mrs. Ghost was a former member of the Orpheus Club; the Country Club; and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 63, all of Greenville.

She loved golf and bridge.

Mrs. Ghost was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville.

Her husband, William A. Ghost, whom she married Oct. 12, 1921, died Oct. 9, 1983.

Surviving are: a son, William A. Jr., Greenville; a daughter, Mrs. Howard W. (Mellie) Cardoza, Greenville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Kent D. Ghost.

Mrs. William A. (Mary Isabel), 95, West Salem Township, formerly of 3 Penn Ave., Greenville.

John A. Hendrickson

V.P. of HHSDR was active in library, theater restoration

John A. Hendrickson, 760 Service Ave., Sharon, died at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday (8-5-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of cancer. He was 56.

Mr. Hendrickson was born Jan. 20, 1941, in Sharon to H. Arvid and Vernie Kelley Hendrickson.

A graduate of Sharon High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Youngstown State University.

He was a structural engineer and vice president for 32 years at HHSDR Architects Engineers, Sharon.

Mr. Hendrickson was a member of the board of directors and treasurer of Shenango Valley Community Library, Sharon.

He was a charter member of Columbia Theatre Inc., Sharon, and a longtime member of its building committee.

An avid ham radio operator, he belonged to American Amateur Radio League and Mercer County Amateur Radio Club. His call letters were ``KEZTA''.

Mr. Hendrickson enjoyed fishing and horse racing.

An athlete, he ran in many 5K races locally.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Diane Kocholek, whom he married April 19, 1968; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Denise) Germani, Pittsburgh; and Jill, at home; two sisters, Mrs. John (Lois) Erb and Mrs. Woodrow (Mary Louise) Cole Jr., both West Middlesex; and a grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


HENDRICKSON

Margaret W. `Peggy' Holtzhauser

Crawford County woman had daughter in Hermitage

Margaret W. ``Peggy'' Holtzhauser, 6930 Mike Wood Blvd., Geneva, Pa., died Sunday (8-3-97) at home after an extended illness. She was 63.

Mrs. Holtzhauser was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Meadville to Carl E. and Beatrice I. Keller Williams.

She attended Meadville High School and Mercyhurst College, Erie.

She was employed by United Refinery at the Kwik-Fill station, Vernon Township. Previously, she worked 14 years for the former Dahlkempers, Meadville; and Meadville Bell Telephone Co. in the billing department.

Mrs. Holtzhauser was a member of Vernon Central Hose Co. and was a lifetime member of Greenwood Auxiliary.

She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and fishing.

Her husband, William R. Holtzhauser, whom she married March 7, 1953, died Aug. 23, 1991.

Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Mark (Carla) Flannery, Hermitage; Mrs. James (Shelly) Hamilton, Meadville; and Heidi Jo, Erie; a son, William R., Clayton, N.C.; her mother, Conneautville; a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Geraldine Kay) Lynn, Meadville; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Donald and Robert Williams; a sister, Patricia Williams; and a grandson.

Robert Morgenstern

Sharon man operated sheet metal shop with sons

Robert Morgenstern, 237 Victory Drive, Sharpsville, formerly of Bonair Drive, Sharon, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday (8-4-97) at home after an extended illness. He was 93.

Mr. Morgenstern was born Nov. 22, 1903, in Fowler to Peter and Elizabeth Hoffman Morgenstern.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sharon, where he was a trustee.

He was a past master and former treasurer of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 250, Sharon.

Mr. Morgenstern was a 72-year member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge 347, Sharon; and belonged to the Sharpsville Service Club.

Until 1996, he bowled in the Monday Senior League of Hickory.

In 1939, he founded the R. Morgenstern Sheet Metal Shop, Sharon. He was later joined by his two sons in 1948 until their retirement in 1987.

His wife, Sophie A. Gimbel, whom he married March 25, 1926, died April 18, 1995.

Surviving are: two sons, R. Norman, Sharpsville, with whom he lived; Melvin G., Hermitage; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Carrie Hartwick, Catherine Morgenstern, Florence Bennett, and Alice McDonald; and six brothers, Charles, Howard, Frank, Melvin, William and Harry.

Bernard T. `Mike' O'Leary

Farrell man was officer, Navy aviator in WWII

Private funeral will be Wednesday for Bernard T. ``Mike'' O'Leary, 49 Capitol Court, Farrell. He died at 8:05 p.m. Sunday (8-3-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 73.

Mr. O'Leary was born May 23, 1924, in Worcester, Mass., to Thomas F. and Agnes Fleming O'Leary.

He was a 1941 graduate of North Grafton (Mass.) High School.

A Navy veteran, he was an aviator during World War II. Serving 16 years, he earned the rank of lieutenant commander.

Mr. O'Leary was a retired district sales representative for LTV Corp., Tulsa, Okla. Previously he was an executive pilot for Beckett Aviation, Youngstown, and worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co.

He was a member of the Navy Retired Officers Association.

Mr. O'Leary was a Catholic.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Rosemary Svetina, whom he married Sept. 23, 1966.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas F. O'Leary.

Dorothy A. Shaver, Shenango Inn Personal Care Residence, Sharon, formerly 1224 Glenwood Drive, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday (8-4-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 87.
