Joseph F. Buzga

Sharon High graduate had 22-year career in U.S. Navy

SANDUSKY, Ohio _ Joseph F. Buzga, 120 Haviland, Youngstown, formerly of Sharon, died Sunday afternoon (8-10-97) in Providence Hospital after an extended illness. He was 73.

Mr. Buzga was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Hardy, Ky., to Joseph and Sofie Olivkova Buzga.

He was a graduate of Sharon High School.

A Navy veteran, he served from 1942-64 during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

Retiring in 1983, Mr. Buzga was an electrician for seven years at U.S. Can, Hubbard.

He was a member of St. Edward's Church, Youngstown.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Dina Panza, whom he married Oct. 31, 1959; a son, Joseph, Akron; three daughters, Jeanne Cerulle, Boston; Irene Molnar, Columbus, Ohio; and Marian, Los Angeles; two brothers, the Rev. John Buzga, Vallint, Okla.; and Robert, Hyde Park, N.Y.; three sisters, Helen Carson, Girard, Ohio; Josephine Stevenson, San Antonio, Texas; and Olga Nicola, Ellicott City, Md.; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Bedridge and Aldridge; and a sister, Mary Yourga.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at noon Wednesday (8-13-97) in St.Edward's Church, Youngstown, with the Rev. Frank Lehnerd, pastor, as celebrant. Brief prayer service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME, 230 Broadway, Youngstown.

Burial:
Full military honors in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery.


Rolland M. Harrison

GATX retiree was graduate of former Stoneboro High

Rolland M. Harrison, West Salem Township, formerly of 246 S. Erie St., Mercer, died this morning (8-12-97) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. He was 90.

Mr. Harrison was born Sept. 7, 1906, in Jackson Township to Walter and Grace Zahniser Harrison.



He was a graduate of the former Stoneboro High School and Bliss Electrical School, Tacoma Park, Md.

He retired as a tool and die maker from General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant.

Mr. Harrison was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Mercer.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Eleanor Brennan, whom he married July 24, 1926, St. Paul Homes; two sons, Thomas W., Hermitage; and John R., Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Nedra Mowry, Verona, Pa., and Jean Proper, Titusville, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, an infant and Robert B.; and three brothers, Lester, Ramon and Don.

HARRISON

Rolland M., 90, West Salem Township, formerly of 246 S. Erie St., Mercer.

Margaret Hoza

Clarion woman belonged to St. Ann's, had siblings here

CLARION _ Margaret Hoza, 999 Heidrick St., died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday (8-12-97) in New Beginning Specialty Care of natural causes. She was 83.

Miss Hoza was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Superior, Pa., to Joseph and Sophie Olenik Hoza.

She was a member of the National Slovak Society.

Miss Hoza belonged to St. Ann's Church, Farrell.

Surviving are: two sisters, Mary, Sharon; and Mrs. Paul (Catherine) Slovan, Boardman, Ohio; two brothers, Paul, Farrell; and George, Bradenton, Fla.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sophie; and two brothers, Joseph and John.


HOZA

Margaret, 83, of 999 Heidrick St., Clarion.

Service: Funeral mass at 10 a.m. Thursday (8-14-97) in St. Ann's Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Richard C. Tomasone, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial: St. Ann's Cemetery, Hermitage.

Michael Kikela

Worked at Westinghouse, Packard, was an avid runner

Funeral will be Wednesday for Michael Kikela, 1305 Heinz Ave., formerly of Cedar Ave., Sharon. He died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday (8-10-97) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 54.



Mr. Kikela was born Nov. 11, 1942, in Berlin, Germany, to Michajlo Kowalczyk and Juliu Kikela.



He moved to the U.S. in May 1950 and graduated from Lakeview (Pa.) High School.

An Army veteran, he served as a paratrooper.

He was a harness assembler for 14 years at Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Warren, Ohio. He was previously employed by the former Reynolds Dry-Type Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., Reynolds, for 15 years.

An avid runner, Mr. Kikela participated in many area marathons. He was active with the soccer programs at the YMCA and Notre Dame School, both Hermitage, where he was a coach and referee.

He also enjoyed tennis and was an avid hunter.

Surviving are: his fiance, Myrna Fisher, Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and Fred and Sophie Washkevich, who reared him.

KIKELA

Michael, 54, of 1305 Heinz Ave., formerly of Cedar Ave., Sharon.

Mary Kozarich

Mary Kozarich, 7930 Service Ave., Masury, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday (8-11-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 85.

Janet A. Kraynok

Sharpsville High graduate was retired flight attendant

BOCA RATON, Fla. _ Funeral will be Friday for Janet A. Kraynok, Boca Raton, formerly of Miami and the Shenango Valley. She died at 3:10 p.m. Saturday (8-9-97) in Boca Raton Community Hospital after an extended illness. She was 66.

Miss Kraynok was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Sharpsville to Joseph and Mary Mashank Kraynok.

She was a 1948 Sharpsville High School alumna.

She retired in 1985 after 30 years as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines.

Surviving are: four sisters, Camilla Conlin, Warren, Ohio; Mrs. William (Carolyn) Vasko, Hermitage; Lucille Metz, West Middlesex; and Mary Agnes Toth, Sharon; and a brother, Edward J., Sharpsville.

Two sisters, Joanne E. Kepler and Martha Hawkins; and a brother, George W., preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.


KRAYNOK

Janet A., 66, Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Miami and the Shenango Valley.

Patrick Leo Malia

Westinghouse retiree was Sharpsville football standout

Patrick Leo Malia, formerly of 549 Mercer Ave., Hermitage, died unexpectedly at 8:15 a.m. Monday (8-11-97) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 82.

Mr. Malia was born May 8, 1915, in Sharpsville to Michael and Mary Thorton Malia.

A 1935 graduate of Sharpsville High School, he was named most valuable player for the Blue Devils football team. In 1939 he graduated from John Carroll University, University Heights, Ohio, where he was captain of the Blue Streaks football squad.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II in Greenland, earning a Good Conduct and Victory medal.

Mr. Malia was employed for 30 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., retiring in 1977.

He was a member of St. Bartholomew's Church, Sharpsville.

Mr. Malia was an avid golfer.

Surviving are: two sisters, Mrs. David (Helen) Butler, Sharpsville; and Mrs. Michael (Sara) Weller, Transfer.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Mary) McWilliams; Mrs. Bertram (Katherine) Rogers; and Agnes Flynn; and four brothers, John, Michael, Martin and Thomas F.


MALIA

Vivian V. Morris

Member of East Side Church (Baptist-Disciples of Christ)

YOUNGSTOWN _ Funeral was today (8-12-97) for Vivian V. Morris, Glenview Manor, formerly of 1089 Haig St., Sharon. She died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday (8-10-97) in the nursing home. She was 92.

Mrs. Morris was born March 13, 1905, in Zelienople, Pa., to Frank and Sarah Thomas Cunningham.

She was a member of East Side Church (Baptist-Disciples of Christ), Sharon.

Her husband, Elmer C. Morris, whom she married May 22, 1931, died April 2, 1993.

Surviving are: a son, Thomas A., Girard, Ohio; a sister, Ethel Thompson, Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Four brothers, Kenneth, Harry, Vincent and James Cunningham; and a sister, Sylvia Lind, preceded her in death.


MORRIS

Mrs. Elmer C. (Vivian V.), 92, Youngstown, formerly of 1089 Haig St., Sharon.

Mrs. Palmer's husband, Kenneth Eugene Palmer Sr., whom she married July 14, 1937, died July 15, 1995. The Herald listed incorrect information.


Anna Mary Vaughn

Former Sharon, Greenville woman retired from Penney's

Anna Mary Vaughn, Mercer County Living Center, Coolspring Township, formerly of Sharon and Greenville, died at 12:58 p.m. Monday (8-11-97) in Horizon Hospital System, Greenville. She was 89.

Mrs. Vaughn was born March 14, 1908, in Ligonier, Pa., to George and Julianna Grbas Gizdic.

She was formerly employed for 17 years as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney Co., Greenville, retiring in 1973.

She was a member of St. Michael's Church, Greenville.

Mrs. Vaughn was a member of American Association of Retired Persons; and the former Sunshine Society, Maysville.

Her husband, George D. Vaughn, whom she married Sept. 28, 1927, died March 8, 1968.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. James (Margaret) Cameron, Sharon; a son, James A., Hadley; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgiana Vaughn; three sisters; and two brothers.
