Ruth G. Ackerman

Ex-Sandy Lake woman was longtime substitute teacher

Ruth G. Ackerman, Hempfield Township, formerly of 26 Dunn St., Sandy Lake, died at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday (8-12-97) in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township. She was 90.

Mrs. Ackerman was born Dec. 9, 1906, in West Homestead, Pittsburgh, to Earl T. and Cecilia Resse Gribble.

A substitute teacher in the Sandy Lake area, she taught at Lytle, Yankee and Jackson Center, all one-room schoolhouses; and at the former Sandy Lake High School. Previously, she taught in the Munhall school district, Pittsburgh, for three years.

Mrs. Ackerman was a member of the former Literary Club and was a Sandy Lake Community Library volunteer for several years.

Surviving are: her husband, Wilbur N. Ackerman, whom she married July 10, 1930; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Marjorie) Raymond, Sandy Lake; a sister, Anne White, Fort Smith, Ark.; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Earl, John, Tom, Frank and Raymond Gribble; and two sisters, Mrs. Sherman (Elma) Stevens and Mrs. Thomas (Hazel) Wolfe.

Mrs. Wilbur N. (Ruth G.), 90, Hempfield Township, formerly of 26 Dunn St., Sandy Lake.

Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Friday (8-15-97) in the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Thompson, pastor of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.


Mary J. Davies

Homemaker lived in Masury, was born in Vanderbilt, Pa.

Mary J. Davies, 785 Syme St., Masury, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday (8-13-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Davies was born Oct. 23, 1912, in Vanderbilt, Pa., to Joseph and Lucy Conte Ritch.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Daniel ``Red'' Davies, whom she married June 14, 1947, died Sept. 26, 1977.

Surviving are: a son, Robert, with whom she lived; a brother, James Ritch; and a sister, Ruth Petras, both Masury; and three grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosann Davies; a sister, Rose Dubrasky; and five brothers, Paul, Michael, Anthony, Joseph Jr. and Nicholas Ritch.

DAVIES

Mrs. Daniel ``Red'' (Mary J.), 84, of 785 Syme St., Masury.

Calling hours: 10 a.m. until time of service Friday (8-15-97) in MADASZ FUNERAL HOME Inc., 6923 Warren Sharon Road, Brookfield.

Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel F. Cesene, pastor of First Assembly of God, Masury, officiating.

Burial: Brookfield Township Cemetery.


James P. Flynn

Warren man was Air Force veteran, restaurant cook

WARREN, Ohio _ James P. Flynn, 126 Atlantic St. N.W., Warren, died at 2:57 p.m. Wednesday (8-13-97) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital of double pneumonia. He was 38.

Mr. Flynn was born May 2, 1959, in Warren to Paul J. and Nancy Nutter Flynn.

An Air Force veteran, he served from Sept. 30, 1978, until Jan. 23, 1980.

Mr. Flynn was a restaurant cook.

He enjoyed cooking, sports and watching television.

Surviving are: his father, Honolulu; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Nancy) Kovach, Cortland; a brother, David, Florida; and a sister, Kim Bickel, Cortland.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Robert I. Hilkirk

Greenville man was retired salesman for oil company

Robert I. Hilkirk, 63 N. High St., Greenville, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday (8-13-97) in Horizon Hospital System, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 81.

Mr. Hilkirk was born Feb. 19, 1916, in Sharpsville to Isaac and Frances Woge Hilkirk.

He attended St. Joseph's elementary school, Sharon, for eight years. He graduated from Hickory High School, Hermitage, in 1934.

He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Greenville.

Mr. Hilkirk was a retired salesman for American Oil Company.

A World War II veteran, he belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3374, Hempfield Township.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Dorothy Eastlake, whom he married Nov. 25, 1942; a son, John R., Redmond, Wash.; a sister, Florence Malia, Conneaut Lake; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Edmond.

HILKIRK

Robert I., 81, of 63 N. High St., Greenville.

Edward Lee Scharbach

Former Slippery Rock man was a truck driver, veteran

CAMDEN, Tenn. _ Edward Lee Scharbach, formerly of Slippery Rock and Edinburg, Pa., died unexpectedly at 4 p.m. Tuesday (8-12-97) in Camden General Hospital, after a heart attack. He was 47.

Mr. Scharbach was born Oct. 22, 1949, in Slippery Rock, to William Edward and Lucille Brooks Scharbach.

081497 3 He was a 1968 graduate of Brush High School, Lyndhurst, Ohio.

An Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam era.

Mr. Scharbach was a truck driver.

He was a Presbyterian.

Surviving are: two daughters, Jennifer Enscoe and Tracy Scharbach, both Grove City; his parents, Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; two sisters, Nancy Reilly, Elmore, Ohio; and Margaret Bar, Brunswick, Ohio; and a grandmother, Mary Brooks, Slippery Rock.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Levi Brooks, and Floyd and Elsie Scharbach.


SCHARBACH

Edward Lee, 47, Camden, Tenn., formerly of Slippery Rock and Edinburg.

Calling hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (8-15-97) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

Service: Funeral at 10 a.m. Saturday (8-16-97) in the funeral home.
