Marie Bice

Crafter was clerk at former Grove City drug store

Marie Bice, 186 Cranberry Road, formerly of Barkeyville Road, Pine Township, died at 9:40 a.m. Monday (8-18-97) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, of natural causes after a brief illness. She was 76.

Mrs. Bice was born March 26, 1921 in Oil City to Earl and Hazel Wimer Badger.

She retired in 1986 as a clerk from the former Harves Rexall Drug Store, Grove City.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, and its Sunday school class.

Mrs. Bice was active in crafts and homemaking.

Her husband, Lloyd W. Bice, whom she married Aug. 19, 1938, died April 16, 1995.

Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Grant (Elaine) Raybuck and Mrs. John (Judy) Milford, both Knox, Pa.; and Joan Kloos and Mrs. James (Karen) Magee, both Grove City; a son, Jerry, Erie; two sisters, Marge Morgan, East Liverpool, Ohio; and Mrs. David (Doris) Curtis, Rochester, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary; and a grandson, Lee Raybuck.

Nicholas Chirikas

Bundler for Turner Steel was golfer, sports enthusiast

Funeral will be Thursday for Nicholas Chirikas, 31 E. Paul St., Shenango Township. He died at 6:41 p.m. Sunday (8-17-97) in Horizon Hospital System, Shenango Valley, Farrell, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 19.

Mr. Chirikas was born March 30, 1978, in Sharon to George and Sherry Bacon Chirikas.

He was a 1996 graduate of West Middlesex High School.

He was a bundler for Turner Steel Service Corp., Hermitage.

Mr. Chirikas enjoyed golf and reading and was a sports enthusiast.

Surviving are: his parents, Shenango Township, with whom he lived; his grandparents, Glenn and Irene Bacon, Sharon; two sisters, Mrs. Randy (Georgiana L.) Allen, West Middlesex; and Staci K., at home.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

Dominic Daryl DeMarco

West Middlesex graduate was cook at local diner

Dominic Daryl DeMarco, 21 Muha Lane, Mercer, died at 2:28 a.m. Monday (8-18-97) in Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 18.

Mr. DeMarco was born Dec. 7, 1978, in Youngstown to Daryl and Sylvia Shank DeMarco.

He was a 1997 graduate of West Middlesex High School.

Mr. DeMarco was a cook for three years at Middlesex Diner, West Middlesex.

Surviving are: his parents, Mercer; a brother, Michael, Mercer; and a stepbrother, Bud Hahn, Mercer; a stepsister, Jennifer Hahn, Sharon; his grandparents, Ray and Helga Trepanosky, West Middlesex; and Marjory Egelsky, Sharon; and great-grandparents, Lina Weller and Otto Leibenguth, both Germany.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dominic Carl DeMarco.

Ethel M. Eichinger

Sacred Heart member was clerk at Sharon Steel

Ethel M. Eichinger, John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of Connelly Manor, Sharon, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday (8-18-97) after a brief illness. She was 95.

Mrs. Eichinger was born Nov. 6, 1901, in Sharon to Patrick J. and Clara Campman Ferrick.

She graduated from the former Sacred Heart School, Sharon.

She previously worked as a file clerk for Sharon Steel Corp.'s former Farrell plant.

Mrs. Eichinger was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon. She was previously a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.

Her husband, John Eichinger, whom she married March 30, 1932, died Sept. 4, 1976.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. John (Greta) Abbott, Scotts Valley, Calif.; a brother, Robert ``Bob'' Ferrick, Sharon; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers; two sisters; and a grandchild.

Mrs. John (Ethel M.), 95, Hermitage, formerly Connelly Manor, Sharon.

Ida Mae Lozon

Former Sharon woman went to work during World War II

Ida Mae Lozon, Coolspring Township, formerly of 15 W. Connelly Blvd., Sharon, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday (8-18-97) in Mercer County Living Center, Coolspring Township, after an extended illness. She was 89.

Mrs. Lozon was born April 7, 1908, in Clark to Mathew and Martha Maude Livermore Murdoch.

During World War II, she was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.; and the former Frantz Machine Shop, Sharon.

Mrs. Lozon was a Protestant.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Shenango Valley Post 1338, Sharon; and the American Association of Retired Persons Sharon Chapter 3775.

Her husband, Joseph Lozon, died in 1961.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. John (Martha) Covington, New Caney, Texas.; a son, Charles ``Chuck'' Murdoch, Delray Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Thanos, who died Oct. 9, 1994; a sister, Clairbelle Kaufman; and three brothers, Edward, Russell and Robert Murdoch.

Margaret B. `Peg' McBride

Former Slippery Rock woman worked as sales clerk

BUTLER _ Margaret B. ``Peg'' McBride, K and L Lane, Butler, and Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Slippery Rock, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday (8-17-97) at home after a brief illness. She was 76.

Mrs. McBride was born July 14, 1921, in Bradleytown, Venango County, to Leo Shirley and Nora Brown Bumpus.

She was a graduate of Sherman (N.Y.) High School. She attended the former Slippery Rock State Teacher's College, now Slippery Rock University.

She was previously a sales person for Montgomery Ward, Butler; and for Mary Kay Cosmetics in the Butler area.

Mrs. McBride was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township, Butler County.

She belonged to American Legion Auxiliary 393

Surviving are: her husband, J. Harold McBride, whom she married Nov. 3, 1944; two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Darla) Cawthorne, Butler; and Mrs. John (Bonnie Jo) Hensley, Marietta, N.Y.; three sons, James E., Akron, Ohio; Jeffrey B., Laurel, Md.; and Gregory B., Brookville, Pa.; a sister, Florence Smith, Guys Mills, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Noel; and a brother, Fred Bumpus.

Mrs. J. Harold (Margaret B. ``Peg''), 76, K and L Lane, Butler, and Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Slippery Rock.

R. Courtney McClelland

Former Grove City man had parents in Mercer

DENVER _ R. Courtney McClelland, Denver, formerly of Grove City, died Aug. 10, 1997, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Colorado. He was 43.

Information about the crash was unavailable.

Mr. McClelland was born Feb. 25, 1954, in Grove City to Donald and Gail Lansing Millis McClelland.

He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Grove City College and a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Slippery Rock University.

He worked in training and organization development for 20 years. An employee in the corporate communications and employee development department of Current Inc., Colorado Springs, Colo., he was most recently the managing partner of Footprints, Denver, a consulting firm which develops Christian leadership and teamwork educational materials.

A foster father for many disadvantaged youth in Denver, Mr. McClelland was active in Young Life and Manna Ministries.

He attended South Fellowship, Cherry Hills and Corona Presbyterian churches.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Patricia Mueting, whom he married June 22, 1990; a son, Liam; two stepsons, Colin and Cyprian Bunker; an adopted son, J.C. Castrellon; his parents, Mercer; a sister, Amy, wife of the Rev. David Joachim, Youngstown; and two brothers, Richard, Mercer; and Timothy, Apex, N.C.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Aug. 15 in Colorado Community Church, Denver.

Local memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday (8-31-97) in Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer, with the Rev. Daniel Keehlwetter, officiating.

Elizabeth M. Pop

Holy Trinity Church member enjoyed gardening

Elizabeth M. Pop, 1019 Smith Ave., Sharon, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday (8-18-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 77.

Mrs. Pop was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Wilson, Pa., Allegheny County to Archibald and Gladys McIntosh Parnham.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Farrell.

Mrs. Pop enjoyed gardening.

Her husband, Louis V. Pop, whom she married March 4, 1943, died Feb. 23, 1993.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. John R. (Betty Lou) Miller, Brookfield; a son, Louis V. Pop III, Brookfield; a brother, Arch Parnham, Philadelphia; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys and Edna Parnham, and Margaret Setterberg; and a brother, Thomas Parnham.

Edward Romian

Was retired heavy equipment operator with Local 66

Funeral was Monday (8-18-97) for Edward Romian, Pulaski, formerly of 46 Erie St., West Middlesex. He died Saturday (8-16-97) in Laurel Highlands Nursing home, Westmoreland County. He was 76.

Mr. Romian was born Nov. 21, 1920, in West Middlesex to Anthony and Mary Ogar Romian.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Local 66 Operating Engineers, Youngstown.

His wife, the former Mary Czuba, preceded him in death.

Surviving are: a brother, Stanley, West Middlesex.

A sister, Anna Sikora, preceded him in death.

Burial was at Castle View Memorial Gardens, New Castle.


Margaret P. Shipton

Homemaker belonged to Lebanon U. Presbyterian

Margaret P. Shipton, of 7109 E. State St., Hermitage, died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday (8-17-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a lengthy illness. She was 62.

Mrs. Shipton was born March 19, 1935 in Franklin to the Rev. Evart L. and Rosa Edith Snodgrass Porterfield.

A homemaker, she belonged to Lebanon United Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township; the United Commercial Travelers, Council 589 and was a past senior counselor of the Sharon auxiliary of UCT 395; and the Jefferson Township Civic League.

Surviving are: her husband, Paul L. Sr., whom she married Nov. 12, 1960; three daughters, Mrs. Louis (Robin) Miller, Sharon; Mrs. Richard (Jeanette) Jewell, Sharpsville; and Mrs. Bruce (Paula) Kelley, Hermitage; two sisters, Mrs. James (Jeanette) Byerly, Sharpsville; and Mrs. Merle (Doris) Roberts, Los Almos, N.M.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Porterfield; and a grandson, Jeffrey Paul McConnell.

Lawrence County farmer had cousins in Sharon

NEW CASTLE _ Darl Zahniser, 1037 Mount Air Road, Enon Valley, Pa., died 5:30 p.m. Monday (8-18-97) in the hospital of Jameson Health System after a brief illness. He was 79.

Mr. Zahniser was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Ellwood City, to Willis H. and Maud Wooster Zahniser.

He was a retired farmer.

He was a member of Bethel United Presbyterian Church, Enon Valley.

Surviving is a sister, Martha, with whom he lived.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert and Willard; and a sister, Adda Jane.
