Earl F. Coxson

Army veteran owned, ran Masury garage for 60 years

Funeral will be Wednesday for Earl F. Coxson, 8060 Davis St. S.E., Masury. He died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday (8-23-97) at home after an extended illness. He was 70.

Mr. Coxson was born Nov. 1, 1921, in Masury to Samuel and Anna Jane Spohn Coxson Jr.

An Army veteran, he earned the rank of Tech 4 and served during World War II in Rhineland Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, and France. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Service medal with five bronze stars.

Mr. Coxson was owner and operator for 60 years of Coxson's Garage, Masury.

He was formerly a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8860, Masury.

His wife, the former Roxie V. Stover, died Oct. 8, 1992.

Surviving are: three daughters, Eldora Dawson and Phyllis M. Tjabing, both Waterloo, Iowa; and Dorothy Jeanne Mullett, Warren, Ohio; three brothers, Samuel, Masury; Charles, San Jose, Calif.; and Larry, Hermitage; a sister, Vivian Hurayt, Hartford; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora Hardesty and Eldora Micha.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Richard J. Peterson

Richard J. Peterson, 918 Hamilton Ave., Farrell, died Monday (8-25-97) at home. He was 54.

Obituary information was incomplete.

Robert P. Phillips

Yourga retiree was official in Wheatland, Air Force vet

Funeral will be Wednesday for Robert P. Phillips, 151 Morton St., Wheatland. He died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday (8-24-97) in Horizon Hospital System, Shenango Valley, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 56.

Mr. Phillips was born Oct. 7, 1940, in Farrell to William and Wilma Gulentz Phillips.

He attended Erie area schools.

An Air Force veteran, he drove in the motor pool for the inauguration of President Kennedy.

Mr. Phillips retired as a truck driver in 1982 from Yourga Trucking Inc., Wheatland. Previously, he was a welder at Sharon Steel Corp.'s former Farrell plant and a laborer for Pelles Sign Co., Sharon.

He attended Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church.

He was the Emergency Management Agency coordinator for the borough of Wheatland.

Mr. Phillips was a member of Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Wheatland Planning Commission.

He was a member of the Andy Pennick Coffee Club, Wheatland; Kiwanis Club of Farrell; and previously belonged to Mercer County Genealogy Society.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Romelle McIntire, whom he married Oct. 19, 1960; a daughter, Tammy, Sharon; two sons, Robert A., and Brian K., both Wheatland; five sisters, Margaret DeMarco, Hermitage; Mrs. Gerard (Midge) Kendrew, Arkansas; Mrs. Ron (Sandra) Hawthorne and Celia White, both Florida; and Kara Eich, Franklin; six brothers, Leslie and William, both Wheatland; Francis, Pulaski; James Wathan, Wisconsin; Fred White, Florida; and Edward White, West Middlesex; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Michael.


PHILLIPS

Robert P., 56, of 151 Morton St., Wheatland.

Burial: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.


Addie A. Stevenson

Penn High School graduate was community volunteer

Funeral will be Wednesday for Addie A. Stevenson, Ridgewood Personal Care Home, West Salem Township. She died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday (8-24-97) at the home. She was 93.

Mrs. Stevenson was born Jan. 8, 1904, in Hadley to Josiah and Emma Cristman Fellnagle.

She graduated from the former Penn High School, Greenville.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Stevenson belonged to Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, Greenville.

She was a volunteer at the church; and for the Ladies Auxiliary of Horizon Hospital System, Greenville; St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township; and the Republican party.

Mrs. Stevenson was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 63, Greenville; and Walnut Creek Golf Club, Jamestown.

Her husband, Jay Roland Stevenson, to whom she was married for 64 years, died in 1988.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Lucille S. Moyer, wife of Dr. John Moyer, Sewickley, Pa.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gerry Stevenson-Davey; two sisters, Myrtle Saxon and Edna Haggerty; and a brother, John Fellnagle.
