Samuel J. `Bobo' Bennett Jr.

Roofer from Mill Creek Twp. was known for steeple work

Memorial service will be Saturday for Samuel J. ``Bobo'' Bennett Jr., 3877 Sandy Lake Road, Mill Creek Township. He died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday (9-9-97) in Hillcrest Nursing Center, Grove City, after a brief illness. He was 60.

Mr. Bennett was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Pittsburgh to Samuel J. and Mary M. Hayes Bennett.

He attended Pittsburgh area schools.

A roofer for more than 20 years with Bell Industries, Pittsburgh, Mr. Bennett was renowned for his ability to climb and install roofing on church steeples.

He was a Protestant.

Mr. Bennett was an avid hunter.

His wife, the former Mildred Watson, whom he married in 1972, died in 1992.

Surviving are: two daughters, Kimberly and Stacy Bennett, both Pittsburgh; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Daniel (Donna) Mechen, Pittsburgh; two stepsons, Donald and Robert Popp, both Sandy Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Robert M. (Laura) Diehl, Sandy Lake; and Joanne Windhurst, Pittsburgh; a brother, Charles S., Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Neil C. Bowser Sr.

Avid hunter, gardener was retired from Sharon Steel

Neil C. Bowser Sr., 160 Beatty School Road, Salem Township, formerly of Wheatland, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday (9-10-97) at home after an extended illness. He was 77.

Mr. Bowser was born April 18, 1920, in Cowansville, Pa., to Earl C. and Elizabeth A. Claypoole Bowser.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II in Europe with the 621st Quartermaster Corps.

He was a bundler for 23 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, retiring in 1980. Previously, he worked two years at Deemer Stitt Coal Mine, Kittanning, Pa.

An avid hunter and gardener, he was a member of Western Reserve Fish and Game Association, West Middlesex; and Getsinger's Archery Club, Brookfield.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Ruth Elizabeth ``Betty'' Thomas, whom he married June 26, 1946; six daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jean K.) Juchnewich, Hermitage; Mrs. Harry (Dorothy E.) Hershberger, Meadville; Mrs. Charles (Sharon E.) Dehner, McDonald, Ohio; Mrs. Harry (Barbara A.) Rizor, Transfer; Mrs. Daniel (Melanie B.) Morris, West Middlesex; and Mrs. Tony (Betsy L.) Boca, Sharpsville; two sons, Neil C. Jr. and Robert F., both Greenville; a sister, Velma Foster, Cowansville, Pa.; three brothers, John, Jackson Center; Richard ``Dick'' Bouser, Brookfield; and Kermit, Hubbard; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Thomas; and a sister, Minerva Woodward.

Neil C. Sr., 77, of 160 Beatty School Road, Salem Township, formerly of Wheatland.

Anna R. Butorayac

Farrell woman was active member of St. Stan's church

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday for Anna R. Butorayac, 1105 Emerson Ave., Farrell. She died at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday (9-10-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Butorayac was born April 1, 1910, in Donora, Pa., to Isadore and Rozalia Szatkowski.

She was a graduate of the former St. Adalbert's School, Farrell.

She had been a coil winder at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

Mrs. Butorayac was an active member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon, and its Ladies of Charity.

She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell; and of the Military Order of Cooties, Patrizi Pup Tent 32, Shenango Valley. She was a former financial secretary and member of the local chapter of Polish Women's Alliance of America.

Surviving is her husband, Matthew Charles Butorayac, whom she married Aug. 17, 1946.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin and Joseph Szatkowski.

John Robert Garrett

Wilmington Township man retired as wire chief for Bell

John Robert Garrett, 4314 Bethel-New Wilmington Road, Wilmington Township, Mercer County, died early Wednesday morning (9-10-97) in Horizon Hospital System, Shenango Valley, Farrell, after a heart attack. He was 62.

Mr. Garrert was born July 3, 1935, Wilmington Township, Mercer County, to George Greer and Dorothy Harriet Dodds Garrett.

He was a 1953 graduate of Wilmington High School.

He retired after 37 years as a wire chief for Bell Telephone Co., New Castle.

Mr. Garrett was a member of Pioneers of America and Wilmington Township Civic League.

He formerly belonged to Free and Accepted Masons Wilmington (Township) Lodge 804; Scottish Rites New Castle Consistory; and Wilmington Grange.

Mr. Garrett was a Protestant.

He loved nature, gardening and wood crafting.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Susan Elaine Grundy, whom he married Dec. 24, 1976; three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Sherry) Dick, New Wilmington; Diana Welch, San Diego; and Meleny Sue Stover, Orlando, Fla.; three sons, James Robert, Leetsdale, Pa.; Wayne Alan, New Wilmington; and Sean Alan Stover, Enid, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Jessie) Hassinger, Mercer; and Mrs. Don (Louise) Coast and Mrs. Ernest (Marie) Gray, both New Castle; two brothers, Edward and Kenneth, both New Wilmington; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Myrtle Goodrick

Myrtle Goodrick, 6614 Warren Sharon Road, Brookfield, died at 10:29 p.m. Wednesday (9-10-97) at home. She was 72.

Nora Irene Mintern, 5203 state Route 7, Burghill, died at 11:41 a.m. Wednesday (9-10-97) at home of a heart attack. She was 85.

Charles Conard Taylor

WWII Navy veteran retired from Cooper Cameron Corp.

Charles Conard Taylor, 610 Ivan Drive, Apt. 8, Grove City, formerly of Pine Township, died at 7:44 p.m. Wednesday (9-10-97) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, of natural causes after a brief illness. He was 89.

Mr. Taylor was born Aug. 4, 1908, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to George Frederick and Clarrisa Manning Taylor.

A Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He retired in 1973 after 33 years as a burner for Cooper Cameron Corp., Grove City.

Mr. Taylor attended Wayside Community Church, Findley Township.

He previously belonged to the former Knights of Pythias Lodge, Grove City.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Dorothy Isabel Keck, whom he married July 25, 1936; a son, David Edwin, Corpus Christi, Texas; a twin brother, John W., Canton, Ohio; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Zenno R. and Kirke L; and a sister, Eleanor Dietrick.
