James E. Bickel

Was laborer for 27 years at Sprang and Company

James E. Bickel, Branchton Road, Slippery Rock Township, died at 3 a.m. Thursday (9-18-97) at home after a brief illness. He was 60.

Mr. Bickel was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Slippery Rock Township to Clifford Adam and Sara Pearl Wilson Bickel.

An Army veteran, he served as a cook.

He was a laborer for 27 years in the magnetics division of Sprang and Company, Butler, until a disability in 1990.

Mr. Bickel attended Bethel United Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock Township.

An avid outdoorsman and bowler, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Mabel G. Jones, whom he married Sept. 26, 1958; a daughter, Mrs. DuWayne (Barbara) Craig, Forestville, Pa.; a son, Gary Bickel, Harmony, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Thelma) Wilson, Portersville; two brothers, Clifford E. ``Skip'' and Donald A., both of Slippery Rock; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contribution may be made through the funeral home to Bethel United Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock; or the Slippery Rock Rescue Squad.


BICKEL

James E., 60, Branchton Road, Slippery Rock.

Maxine L. Ehrenfeld

Maxine L. Ehrenfeld, 52 S. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville, died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday (9-17-97) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 64.

Obituary information was incomplete.

Alvie F. Gaines

Was maintenance supervisor for 40 years at Sharon Steel

Alvie F. Gaines, 2861 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, apartment 112, Shenango Township, died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday (9-18-97) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after an extended illness. He was 85.

Mr. Gaines was born Jan. 29, 1912, in New Wilmington to Oliver and Caroline Frye Gaines.

Retiring in 1974, he was an electrical maintenance supervisor for 40 years at Sharon Steel Corp.'s former Farrell plant.

Mr. Gaines was a member of West Middlesex Presbyterian Church.

He belonged to Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, West Middlesex.

His wife, the former Mildred Irene Neely, whom he married Oct. 11, 1933, died March 3, 1983.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Karen) Auman, West Middlesex; a son, Keith, West Middlesex; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; five brothers, Roy, James, Arthur, Harold and Harvey; and three sisters, Pearl, Clara and Myrtle.


GAINES

Alvie F., 85, of 2861 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, apartment 112, Shenango Township.

Frank Grande

Farrell businessman was member of Italian groups

Funeral will be Friday for Frank Grande, 1097 Hillcrest St., Sharon. He died at 11:23 a.m. Tuesday (9-16-97) in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage. He was 90.

Mr. Grande was born April 12, 1907, in Pittsburgh to Pasquale and Angelina Puzzini Grande.

A 1926 graduate of Farrell High School, he attended Youngstown State University.

A self-employed business owner, he operated Grande's Confectionary; Grande's Service Station and Variety Store; and the former Grande's Tavern, now Kirsch's Tavern, all Roemer Boulevard, Farrell.

Mr. Grande was a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.

He belonged to the Italian Home and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 55, both Farrell; and Sons of Italy Shenango Valley Lodge 875, Sharon.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Dorothy Robison, whom he married Nov. 16, 1974; a son, Richard Raymond; three sisters, Mrs. Bryce (Anna) Nelson and Mrs. Joseph (Lucille) Perriello, both of Farrell; and Mrs. Frank (Frances) Raso, Pittsburgh; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, John and Robert Grande; and Peter and Joseph Iacino; and two sisters, Rose Grande and Mary Mendicino.

Anna Mae Paddock

Sharon native attended Masury Presbyterian Church

FORT WORTH, Texas _ Anna Mae Paddock, Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of 171 Wengler Ave., Sharon, died Sunday (9-14-97) in Fireside Lodge. She was 89.

Mrs. Paddock was born Nov. 27, 1907, in Clymer, Pa., to Andrew and Anna Mahute Paul.

She was a member of the former Presbyterian Church, Masury.

Her husband, Wallace John Paddock, died in 1978.

Surviving are: two sons, Gary, Killbuck, Ohio; and W. Ronald, Masury; several brothers and sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


PADDOCK

Mrs. Wallace John (Anna Mae), 87, Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of 171Wengler Ave., Sharon.

Ralph M. Rumbaugh

Grove City native lived in Mount Vernon, Ohio

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio _ Ralph M. Rumbaugh, Mount Vernon, Ohio, died at 5:14 p.m. Tuesday (9-16-97) in Knox Community Hospital. He was 85.

Mr. Rumbaugh was born Jan. 2, 1912, in Grove City to Thomas H. and Bertha Holliday Rumbaugh.

He was a member of Gay Street United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon.

Lois Maree Tatta

Sharon homemaker was born in Youngstown

Lois Maree Tatta, 484 Fullerton Place, Sharon, died at 8:18 a.m. Wednesday (9-17-97) in Horizon Hospital System, Shenango Valley, Farrell, after an extended illness. She was 67.

Mrs. Tatta was born July 4, 1930, in Youngstown to Samuel and Hilda Clinton Grombacher.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, John Tatta, died in 1988.

Surviving are: two sons, Robert L. Sr., Sharpsville; and Thomas R. Sr., Sharon; three stepdaughters, Paulette Tatta, Sharpsville; Anita Parent, Walkerton, Ind.; and Rose Botts, Wisconsin; three stepsons, Alan Botts and Scott Tatta, both of Sharon; and Eugene Tatta, Hermitage; two sisters, Mrs. John (Salma) LaGamba, Vero Beach, Fla.; and Janet Vaculla, Sharpsville; a brother, Fred Grombacher, Marino Valley, Calif.; and 24 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, John Jr., and Fritz Tatta; and a brother, Wilbert Grombacher.

Mrs. John (Lois Maree), 67, of 484 Fullerton Place, Sharon.

Richard Vass

Army veteran worked at McKenzie Square, Packard

Richard Vass, 1953 Thomas Road S.E., Hubbard, died at 12:53 a.m. Wednesday (9-18-97) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System after a heart attack. He was 60.

Mr. Vass was born Sept. 23, 1936, in Youngstown to David and Susan Toth Vass.

He was an Army veteran.

For 12 years, Mr. Vass was a maintenance employee for McKenzie Square stores in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Previously, he was employed for six years at Delphi Packard Electic Systems, Warren, Ohio.

He was a member of Hubbard (Township) Church of the Nazarene.

A handyman who enjoyed fixing things, Mr. Vass loved boating, fishing and gardening.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Joy Middlestead, whom he married May 4, 1960; four sons, Daniel R., Poland, Ohio; Timothy C., West Middlesex; Jeffrey M., Dayton, Ohio; and Grant D., Hubbard; two daughters, Jeanette L. Burns, Hubbard; and Melinda J. Miller, Greenville; a brother, Edward R., Liberty (Ohio) Township; a sister, Eleanor Kames, Vancouver Island, British Columbia; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
