GROVE CITY

Chamber of Commerce adds Web page as way of promoting area

By Mary Bowlin
Executive Director, Grove City Chamber of Commerce

The Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce topped off a successful 1999 year by holding its annual dinner Jan. 12.

Guest speaker was Bill Hillgrove, Steeler football radio personality. More than 180 Chamber members and guests enjoyed dinner and acknowledged 17 member businesses who were given Silver Spruce Awards for “sprucing up” their businesses during 1999.

I was honored as the recipient of this year’s Community Service Award. Never one to “toot my own horn,” I put many, many off-hours into services for the betterment of Grove City. I also was a vital member of the Bicentennial Special Events Committee.

The Chamber’s main project during 1999 was to develop a new Web site. This was accomplished through the resources of Chapman Media of Grove City, which continues to maintain the site. Check us out at www.grovecity-pa.com

Our site features a user-friendly community calendar. This calendar includes Chamber events as well as other events taking place in town. Local churches, organizations and businesses are invited to publicize any events that are open to the public by calling the Chamber office at 458-6410.

In addition to the annual dinner, the Chamber sponsors a golf outing, chicken barbecue, and the Street Fair as fund-raising events – all of which were very successful last year. The Chamber is also actively involved in the planning and execution of Strawberry Days.

In addition to these special activities, the Chamber office acts as promoter of Grove City and the surrounding area. We provide tourist packets and relocation packets for those interested in visiting or moving to our area, do referrals for many services, and generally answer questions that range from “Where do I vote at?” to “When’s the Halloween Parade/trick-or-treat hours?” to “Do you have a Grove City area map?” There is never a dull moment at the Chamber office.

Upcoming events in which the Chamber is involved include: June 7, Chamber golf outing; June 8-11, Strawberry Days; and Aug. 9-12, Grove City Street Fair. Other community events include: July 4, celebration and fireworks; and Oct. 6-8, Fall Fest.
