Strawberry Days

The 10th annual Grove City Strawberry Days Art and Music Festival will be held June 8 through 11 at Strawberry Park, South Broad Street, downtown Grove City.

Highlights include:

  • June 7 -- Strawberry Day’s 5K run, 7 p.m.

  • June 8 -- Chicken barbecue, sponsored by the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce, and free milk Chugs courtesy of Dean Dairy Products, both 4 p.m.; face painting/balloon animals by Devin, 4 to 8 p.m.; Strolling Fox Family Characters -- Rotten Ralph, Bobby, Bad Dog and Joey the Kangaroo, 5 p.m.; free ice cream courtesy of the Mercer County Dairy Princess Committee, and concert by Tony Jan-flone (classic rock and blues), both 7 p.m.

    Spring Festival

    Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church First Spring Festival will be held from noon to 6 p.m. June 11 at the church, 1132 Fruit Ave., Farrell.

  • Dancing and music by Johnny Oakes.

  • Bingo from 2 to 4 p.m.

  • Bake sale.

  • Chinese auction and raffle.

    Ohio Irish Festival

    The Ohio Irish Festival will be held June 23 through 25 at the West Side Irish-American Club, 8559 Jennings Road, Olmsted Township (southwest Cleveland suburb).

  • Over 20 regional, national and international bands and performers slated for non-stop music on four stages.

  • Quality Irish and festival foods.

  • Retailers and crafters.

  • Step dance and tin whistle lessons for chil-dren.

  • Performance by Irish step dancers from the Le-neghan Academy of Irish Dance.

  • Gaelic football, hole-in-one golf challenge and children’s games.

  • Children’s activities with Fox 8’s Big Chuck and Li’l John and performances by Acting Out Pup-peteers.

    Stoneboro Station Days will be held June 28 through July 2, Railroad Street, Stoneboro.

    July

    Community Patriotic Program

    Grove City Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Community Patriotic Program at 8 p.m. July 4 on the lower campus of Grove City College.

    Enjoy an evening of musical entertainment followed by a fireworks display.

    Booster Carnival

    The annual Sharpsville Booster Carnival, sponsored by the Sharpsville Booster Club, will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. July 4 through 8 on Walnut Street, next to the VFW, in Sharpsville.

    Activities include:

  • Rides and games by Swank’s Steel City Shows.

  • Chicken and roast beef dinners served nightly.

  • Bingo played in the VFW.

  • Live radio broadcasts by WPIC on July 6.

    Family and Friends Days

    The first Sandy Lake Family and Friends Days will be held at 6 p.m. July 7 and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 8.

  • July 7 -- Pet parade, sponsored by Rotary Club; kids fun race; concert by Bill Beggs Band, playing a variety of dixieland, Irish and swing mu-sic.

  • July 8 -- Craft and flea market; chicken bar-becue by Rotary Club from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; garden tractor and farm stock pull; kids tractor pull; line dancing; horseshoe pitching; bed race down main street; opening of the 1976 time capsule and burying of the Sesquicentennial time capsule; con-cert by Mostly Brass; Mike, the Balloon Guy; ice cream social; concert by Country with a Kick at 6:30 p.m.; fireworks.

    Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department will hold Old Home Week from July 18 through 22 in Fredonia Park.

  • July 20 -- Pet parade, 7 p.m.

    Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their an-nual Victorian Weekend July 21 through 23 in and around the Mercer County Courthouse.

    Highlights include:

  • July 21 -- Ice cream social, noon to 9 p.m.; and "Mercer County Bicentennial Concert," with warm-up music by Wolfcreek Wailers at 6:15 p.m. and the main concert featuring the Mercer Community Band.

  • July 22 -- Civil War Encampment; arts and craft show, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Grande Victorian pa-rade, 10 a.m.; Victorian fashion show; silent auc-tion for Victorian hats; historian Eric Rotsinger portraying Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Victorian workshop, 1 to 3 p.m.; historical walking and courthouse tours; concert by The Great Pretenders, 1 to 4 p.m.; surrey rides; and Victo-rian ball, 8 to 11 p.m.

    Clarion County Fair

    The 62nd annual Clarion County Fair will be held July 23 through 29 at the Redbank Valley Municipal Park near New Bethlehem.

    Highlights include:

  • July 23 -- Annual car show and hymn sing.

  • July 24 -- Concert by The Vogues, featuring rock and roll and country and western songs.

  • July 25 -- Compact car and pick-up truck demo-lition derby.

  • July 26 -- Nationwide full-sized car demoli-tion derby.

  • July 27 -- Bullride Mania, a branch of the Dave Martin Championship Rodeo.

  • July 28 -- Antique and farm tractor pull.

  • July 29 -- Stock car football.

    Jefferson Township Fair

    The 30th annual Jefferson Township Fair will be held July 25 through 29 at the Jefferson Township Municipal Grounds, 7407 Lamor Road, Mercer. July 24 is entry day and the fair is opens to the public at 5 p.m. July 25-28 and 1 p.m. July 29.

    Highlights include:

  • July 25 -- Pet parade forms, 6:30 p.m.; fire-man’s parade, 6:45 p.m.; Mercer County Dairy Prin-cess, 7 p.m.; tractor pulling contest, 7:30 p.m.; concert by Earthquakers, 8 p.m.; fireworks, 10 p.m.

  • July 26 -- Concert by Luceee Schirmer (keyboard), 7 p.m.; four wheel drive pulling con-test, 7:30 p.m.; concert by LYNT, 8:30 p.m.

  • July 27 -- Concert by Chuck Thorpe and Ron Knapp (songs and guitars), 7 p.m.; farm stock trac-tor and N.W. Hi-Performance, 4x4 stock pulling con-test, 7:30 p.m.

  • July 28 -- Dog obedience show by Shenango Val-ley K-9 Academy, 7 p.m.; concert by Mercer County Jamboree (variety, folk music), 7 p.m.; truck and tractor pulling contest, 7:30 p.m.

  • July 29 -- A.M. Horse Show, 9 a.m.; children’s games, 1 p.m.; spinners and weavers demonstration, 2 to 4 p.m.; children’s pedal tractor pull, 2:30 p.m.; display areas open and awards given, 3 to 7 p.m.; demolition derby, 6 p.m., pits open at 3 p.m.; Country and Western Music Show and Square Dance, 8 p.m.; fireworks, 10 p.m.

    There will also be rides by Bartlebaugh Amusements, games, bingo and dinner will be served daily from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Exhibits will include livestock, 4-H and hay, grain, vegetables, fruits, home and dairy products, floral, needle-

    craft, arts, crafts, antique farm equipment and more.

    August

    Community Day Parade

    The Grove City Community Day Parade will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 in downtown Grove City.

    Grove City Street Fair

    The 43rd annual Grove City Street Fair, hosted by the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held Aug. 9 through 12 in downtown Grove City.

    The downtown area becomes an exciting midway filled with amusement, great food and entertainment. Fire-works will be held on Aug. 11.

    4-H Roundup

    Mercer County 4-H Roundup sponsored by Mercer County 4-H Development Committee and Penn State Co-operative Extension will be held Aug. 9 through 12 at the Mercer County 4-H Park, Route 19, 1½ miles north of the courthouse.

    Highlights include:

  • Aug. 10 -- 4-H showcases and cavalcade, 7:30 p.m.

  • Aug. 11 -- Livestock show and sale, 5:30 p.m.

    Old Home Days

    New Virginia Old Home Days will be held on Aug. 11 and 12 at the Virginia Road park in Hermitage.

    Highlights include:

  • Aug. 11 -- Events begin at 5 p.m.; Miss Old Home Days will be chosen at 6 p.m.; concert by Ka-lico, 7 p.m.

  • Aug. 12 -- "No Class Car Show" registration, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with trophy presentation at 4 p.m.; Magic of Raymond, noon; Little Miss and Mister con-test, 2 p.m.; D.J. Gary Swanson; concert by Wild Turkey, 3 p.m.

    Other events include trivia and games for kids, food and more.

    Lawrence County Fair

    The 47th annual Lawrence County Fair will run from August 14 through 19 at the Lawrence County Fair-grounds, Route 108, three miles east of New Castle, across from Laurel High School..

    Highlights include:

  • Aug. 14 -- Bullride Mania.

  • Aug. 15 -- Dave Martin’s Rodeo.

  • Aug. 16 -- Appearing in concert will be Brad Paisley, voted Best New Male Vocalist by the Acad-emy of Country Music, singing his number one hits, "Who Needs Pictures," "Me Neither" and "He Didn’t Have to Be," 7:30 p.m.

  • Aug. 17 and 18 -- Truck and tractor pulls.

  • Aug. 19 -- Demolition derby and fireworks.

    The 133rd Great Stoneboro Fair will be held Aug. 30 through Sept. 4 at the Stoneboro Fairgrounds, Route 62.

    Fall Fest

    The Grove City Chamber of Commerce will hold their fall fest on Oct. 7 and 8 in Memorial Park.

    Events include a farmer’s market, food, activities, hay rides and entertainment.

    The Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF) announces that a listing of all the agri-cultural fairs within the state is available in a colorful brochure. Each fair is listed by county -- information available is fair name, location, con-tact phone number, and the dates of the 2000 event. For easier reference, the state is divided into four regions.

    A total of 114 events are held yearly.
