Area students earn Youngstown State academic honors

Eleven local students were among those honored May 15 during Youngstown State University’s 41st annual honors convocation.

Sara LaLumia, New Wilmington, earned Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 143 Scholarship award for academic excellence and achievement. Its recipient is nominated for Phi Kappa Phi national graduate fellowship. She also earned the Joseph E. Smith Award in Economics for excellence in that field of study.

Monica L. Mastran, Hubbard, earned a Quest 2000 Dean’s Award. Each college dean selects one or two student to receive the award after the two-day Quest event.

Benjamin M. Keck, Mercer, earned Clarence P. Gould Society membership based on academic achievement. It is open to College of Arts and Sciences students. He also earned the Outstanding Senior Mathematics Award.

James M. Seckler, Hubbard, earned a Frank Clark Physics Award for outstanding study in physics. Erin Dixon, Grove City, earned the Albert W. and Adele Krotzer Scholarship for distinguished academic achievement in Warren P. Williamson Jr. College of Business Administration. Kevin Ruminski, Hubbard, earned an Arthur L. Jones Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement in accounting.

Kevin R. Setterberg, Burghill, earned the Ronald J. Hepp Memorial Award given to the outstanding senior electrical engineering major.

Tamara Koch, Brookfield, earned the Jean Abul-Ela Graduation Prize, given to a worthy dietetics graduate.

Lisa Squibbs, Hubbard, earned an Ilajean Feldmiller Scholarship, given to human ecology majors for outstanding scholarship and service.

Patricia Hinkle, Hubbard, earned a Hynes-Finnegan Scholarship in Nursing, given for academic achievement by nursing majors

James C. Meese, Hubbard, earned a B’nai B’rith History Graduate award, given to graduate students in history who have demonstrated academic excellence and other characteristics essential to outstanding graduate study.
