Locals attack English stance
By Beth Baumgardner

Many bitter residents attended a town meeting hosted by U.S. Rep. Phil English Thursday night to voice their concerns about lack of income and the area’s lack of jobs.
All but a handful of the attendees were Sharon Steel retirees and most disagreed with English’s support of China joining the World Trade Organization.
English told the audience of nearly 100 that the trade agreement with China did not allow any jobs to be taken away from the United States.
“I think you’ll be surprised by the actual content of the agreement,” English said.
He said the agreement meant American businesses would be able to target the rising consumer market in China.
“We’ve been selling too few goods there and that’s been a problem,” English said.
