Boy returns home from hospital after house fire

A Sharon boy is home after a two-day stay in a Youngstown hospital because of injuries sustained from a fire.

Charlie Jenkins, 12, was released from Tod Children’s Hospital, a hospital spokesperson said this morning. Charlie’s brother John, 16, and his sister Nikki, 7, were also treated for smoke inhalation Wednesday after their second-floor apartment caught fire.

The Jenkins children were home alone at their 344 S. Oakland Ave. apartment at 2:22 a.m. when a fire began in Charlie’s bedroom.

The children were placed in the custody of Mercer County Children and Youth Services after the fire, and the director of the agency was unavailable this morning to say whether the children are still in the agency’s care or have been returned to their father, Charlie Jenkins.
