Boil-water advisory lifted

Greenville Municipal Authority shortly after noon Friday lifted the boil-water advisory it issued last Saturday afternoon.

No bacteria was found Friday in tests of water samples, indicating the water was safe for consumption, the authority said.

For the last week, businesses and residents in the Hadley and Leech roads areas of Hempfield Township were advised to boil their water before consuming it. Some of the tests on water from a Hadley Road storage tank indicated bacterial contamination, said a prior announcement.

The coliform found was not the fecal type that would have posed an imminent health risk, the authority said. However, the contamination was more than permitted by state environmental regulations, so the boil-water advisory was issued as a precaution, Robert Munch, authority superintendent, said in a prior statement.

Customers served by the Hadley Road storage tank are advised to flush their internal plumbing. They can do that by opening cold water faucets and letting water flow for five to 10 minutes, the authority said.

"We regret any inconvenience caused by the advisory, but the precautionary measurers were needed to protect public safety," the authority said.
