Cruise features drive-in movie

Car buffs will take a drive back through time at the car cruise-in and drive-in movie from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the upper quad of Thiel College campus.

The car cruise will take the place of a car show held in downtown Greenville for the past eight years, said Peggy Miller, administrative assistant for Student Services at the college, and spokesperson for the event.

"We wanted to try something different for a change. It won’t be an all-day affair this way, but we’ll still get a lot of the same people," Mrs. Miller said.

The college-sponsored event will be more "family-friendly" as well, with the D. J. Cruisemaster, from New Castle playing oldies songs; hot-dogs, hamburgers and pop, among other refreshments being served, and an old-fashioned drive-in movie.

"We plan on showing ‘Rebel Without a Cause," said Mrs. Miller. "We also thought this would be a good opportunity to bring people onto campus to see how nice and beautiful it is. A lot of people have never seen it," she added.

Weather permitting, the school expects about 100 to 200 cars at the cruise-in.

"Former vice-president of Student Affairs John Yarabeck started this years ago because of his own interest in classic cars," said Mrs. Miller. "We’re just continuing that tradition."
