Police seek counterfeit ring suspects

State police in New Castle are looking for two men who presented counterfeit/forged checks totaling more than $50,000 between November and December 1999 at various branches of a local bank, police said.

Police said the two men presented a total of 25 checks totaling $50,837.10 to Sky Bank offices in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler counties. The men produced Pennsylvania identification cards and are believed to be involved in a ring of people committing this type of crime in the Pennsylvania/Ohio area from Cleveland to Pittsburgh.

Police said both men are black. One is in his mid 30s, weighs between 200 to 220 pounds and is between 5 feet 10 inches tall and 6 feet tall. The other man is in his mid 20s, has a thin build, weighs about 175 pounds and is about 6 feet tall, police said.

Anyone with information about these two men are asked to call state police in New Castle at 598-2211.
