STONEBORO

Many top Christian bands set for festival

The Abbapalooza Christian music festival opens at 10 a.m. today at the Stoneboro Fairgrounds.

Burlap to Cashmere headlines the festival -- named Joy in past years and is still held by Joy Ministries -- with an 8:45 p.m. performance. The band’s "Anybody Out There?" won the 1999 Dove Award for best album, and the band won in connection with stars such as Amy Grant, Jaci Velasquez and Sixpence None the Richer for contributing to the album "Streams," which won for special event album of 2000.

The band’s song "Basic Instructions" was nominated for the 2000 song of the year Dove.

Performing at 7:45 p.m. will be the W’s, which won two Doves in 1999 for the alternative-modern rock song "The Devil is Bad" and album "Fourth from the Last."

The rest of the main stage schedule:

The contest starts at 11 a.m. and includes the Citizens Not the Same Lucy, Rent to Own, Incarnate, Singled Out, Inemy Chain, 24 Elders and Throne Room Heroes and Iascension. The winner will be announced at 4:30 p.m.
