FARRELL

Man charged with assault on woman

A Farrell man was arrested Thursday morning for breaking into his home and assaulting a woman repeatedly.

James Gregory, 38, of 635 Darr Ave., was arrested at 5 a.m. on charges of two counts each of simple assault, burglary and criminal trespass, police said.

Police gave this account:

Gregory forced his way into his home and through a back window. He choked the woman, who also lives there, and shoved her head against walls and the floor.

When the woman tried to call 911, Gregory pulled the telephone cord out of the wall.

She broke free and ran to a neighbor’s house to call for help. He caught her outside, choked her and slammed her head against a car hood.

The woman ran into her house, locking the door, and called 911. Gregory kicked down the door and pulled another phone cord from the wall. The woman ran three blocks to the police station wearing only a T-shirt.

Gregory, who was arrested at home, was arraigned by District Justice Henry J. Russo, and taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $5,000 bond.
