Counseling Center, UPMC partner up

Community Counseling Center of Mercer County said Thursday it has formalized a partnership with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Behavioral Health Network.

The Counseling Center said the agreement is effective Dec. 1. Under the terms of the deal both parties will remain independent and autonomous corporations. The Counseling Center will become an affiliate of the UPMC Behavioral Health Network, a part of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian.

"(Western Psychiatric) is recognized as a regional and national leader in providing advanced behavioral health care programs as well as related research and training programs,’’ said Angelo Stamoolis, the Counseling Center’s executive director.

He added the collaborative efforts will combine the Counseling Center’s long standing delivery to the community and Western’s expertise to bring excellence in behavioral health care to Mercer County.

"Our missions and philosophies are very similar, the highest quality care for those who need it most,’’ said Raymond Grabowski, vice president of network development for UPMC.
