District Justice French seeks re-election

District Justice Ruth M. French, Mercer, announced Wednesday that she will seek a second six-year term.

Mrs. French’s district includes Fredonia, Mercer and Sheakleyville and 13 surrounding townships.

"It’s been an honor and a privilege for me to serve the people of my community as their district justice. I have always been committed to justice, integrity and the protection of people," Mrs. French said.

An East Lackawannock Township resident, Mrs. French was first elected in 1995. She said she has been "commended for maintaining her office in a professional and efficient manner while presiding over summary, criminal and civil cases."

Since 1995, Mrs. French has completed seven courses offered through the Pennsylvania Courts Minor Judiciary Education Board and in October was recertified by the Pennsylvania United Judicial System.

Mrs. French, a Mercer High School graduate, earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rhode Island College in Providence. She has taught in several Mercer County schools and worked as a child abuse investigator in Mercer and Trumbull counties.

She also worked as a researcher for Kent (Ohio) State University and for a private research company contracted by the U.S. Health Finance Department to look at Medicare. Mrs. French, 63, is a mother of four and an avid outdoors- woman.
