HERMITAGE

Accident victims are improving, hospitals report

The conditions of two Hubbard teen-agers seriously injured in a crash Sunday night in Hermitage have improved.

Carla J. Atwood, 17, of 3239 Seifert Lewis Road S.E., was in serious condition this morning in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, a hospital spokesperson said.

Lindsay Quartini, 16, of 281 Jean Drive, was in stable condition this morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, a spokesperson said.

Both were in critical condition Tuesday morning, according to the hospitals.

The teen-agers were hurt when a tanker truck slammed into the car in which they were riding at 11 p.m. Sunday, police said. Carla drove through a blinking red light on Highland Road at North Hermitage Road into the path of a southbound truck driven by Kristian Spohn, 27, of Butler, police said. Spohn was not hurt, police said.

Lindsay was riding in the front seat of Carla’s car, police said. Two back-seat passengers suffered minor injuries, police said.
