Woman driver hit with leg cramp runs down 5 people in parking lot

One woman was hospitalized and four other people suffered minor injuries after a Sharpsville woman lost control of her car Sunday afternoon in a shopping center parking lot, state police said.

Police said, Anna Walko, 78, of 482 Charles St., Sharpsville, told them she got a cramp in her leg about 1:30 p.m. while she was driving in the Union Square Plaza parking lot, west of New Castle.

The cramp caused her to press down on the gas pedal, police said. The car hit Michael Kerr, 14, and Nicole Kerr, 18, both of Hermitage, and Mary Lee Rogers, 33; Donna Jean Lutton, 61; and an 8-year old, all of New Castle, police said.

Ms. Lutton was in stable condition this morning in the hospital of Jameson Health System, where she is being treated for a hip injury, a hospital spokesperson said.

Police said the others suffered minor injuries.

No charges will be filed, police said.
