April senior center activities listed

Sandy Lake Senior Center, which meets in McQuiston Center by the Park at 29 Railroad St., announces its April activities.

Seniors are invited to "silly up" Easter bonnets and socks on April 18. Men are invited to use fishing caps or other hats. Recognition will be given in three categories: prettiest, most original and ugliest.

The Fifth Annual Gospel Concert will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. April 27 in the center. Stan Medberry, Jack Kendall, Ron Knapp, Chuck Thorpe, Curt and Janene Minshull, Tim McCall, Ken and Terry Tenney, Bob and Linda Cook and Carolyn Bills will be featured performers. Tax deductible donations of your choice given at the door will benefit the center. A dessert and drink concession will be held. Those willing to donate pies may sign up at the registration table.

A bus will depart at 5:20 a.m. April 30 for "Springtime in Virginia." Participants are scheduled to arrive home on May 3.

  • Tuesday -- 11:15, "What’s Cooking?" with Joan and Amy.

  • Wednesday -- 9:30 a.m. to noon, Greenville Head Start.

  • Thursday -- 10 a.m., Program Committee meeting; 11:15 a.m., "Covered Bridges" program with Hazel McCartney.

  • Friday -- 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Lakeview Head Start; 11 a.m., Seniorcise; 3 p.m., depart for Shenango Valley trip.

  • April 9 -- 11:20 a.m., poetry day.

  • April 10 -- 11 a.m. to noon, blood pressure screening by Life Force Ambulance; 11:30 a.m., table game.

  • April 11 -- 11:15 a.m., garden tips.

  • April 12 -- 10 a.m., dye Easter eggs; 11:15 a.m., Easter program.

  • April 13 -- Center closed for Good Friday.

  • April 16 -- 11:20 a.m., riddle and joke day.

  • April 17 -- 11:15 a.m., "Old Time Home Remedies."

  • April 19 -- 11:15 a.m., birthday and anniversary party with Carolyn Bills.

  • April 20 -- 10:30 a.m., Seniorcise; 11:20 a.m., Family Table Feud.

  • April 23 -- 11:20 a.m., Wheel of Fortune.

  • April 24 -- 11:15 a.m., grocery bingo. Turn in "Table Talk" to Ruth Piel.

  • April 25 -- 11:20 a.m., "Share your Music Talent."

  • April 26 -- 11:15 a.m., "911 Awareness" with Steve Ware.

  • April 27 -- Center will be closed during the day until the time of gospel concert.

  • April 30 -- 11:20 a.m., Center Council meeting.

    Daily schedule includes:

  • Monday -- 9:30 a.m., Intermediate line dance; 10:30 a.m., Seniorcise; 1 p.m., Bridge; and oil painting class.

  • Tuesday -- 9 to 11 a.m., Shuffleboard.

  • Wednesday -- 9:30 a.m., Beginners line dance; 10:30 a.m., Seniorcise (11 a.m. April 4); 1 p.m., Tai Chi; and watercolor art class.

  • May 8-9 -- Grand Victoria Casino and Hotel, Rising Sun, Ind.

  • June 12 -- "Second Time Around" in Riverside Dinner Theatre, Cambridge Springs, Pa.

  • July 20 -- "Showboat" in Struther’s Theatre, Warren, Pa.

  • Aug. 23-26 -- "Kentucky Tour" with the Statler Brothers.

  • Oct. 13 -- Knox/Kane Railroad and program with "Cahal Dunne."

  • Oct. 16 -- Australia/New Zealand departing.

  • Nov. 10 -- Oak Ridge Boys and Wheeling Festival of Lights.

    Lunch is available daily at noon with prior two-day-ahead reservation.

    The suggested donation is $1.50.
