March of Dimes sets 30th WalkAmerica
March of Dimes is kicking off the 30th year of WalkAmerica.
Phillip J. Marrie will be the event’s honorary chair; Tim Hofius, 2001 Walk Chair; Mark Malcolmson, TeamWalk chair; Teresa Cave, Chris Straw and National Honor Society students from Hickory High School in Hermitage, all co-logistic chairs; and Beth Stanger, publicity and hoopla chair.
Hofius welcomed more than 30 team captains to this years’ WalkAmerica Kick-Off, sponsored by the Women’s Center at Sharon Regional Health System.
WalkAmerica is set for April 29. Proceeds will go toward helping give babies a healthy start in life.
The 10-kilometer Mercer County WalkAmerica will begin at Buhl Farm park, Hermitage. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.
The following events will be part of WalkAmerica 2001:
"Baby Buggy Brigade" -- Decorate your child’s stroller as a WalkAmerica Parade float. Entries will be judged on most creative, futuristic and mission. Entries must be registered by April 20. There is a $10 cost. Forms are available in all National City Bank locations. Information: 981-1841.
"Field of Hope" -- Pennants will be printed with a child’s name. The pennants will dot a field to visualize the hope of March of Dimes. Pennants will sold for $5 each, and will be displayed on the walk day. The are available in National City Bank locations, or call 981-1841.
