SHENANGO VALLEY

Fund-raising campaign for Buhl Day is under way

The annual fund-raising campaign for Buhl Day in under way.

Letters have been sent to area residents, businesses and friends of Buhl Day who have supported this annual event in recent years.

Rising costs can take a toll on everyone, and every event. This year’s budget is in excess of $27,000.

"Every year, the committee asks itself, what can we do better? What else can we offer the visitors?" said Karen Campman Emmett, this year’s Buhl Day chairperson.

This year’s program will include some new names as well as mark the return of some of the favorite musical groups in the area.

James B. Winner and Joyce Winner, Sharon, are leading the fund-raising efforts again this year. "Buhl Day represents the best of our community. It’s a great day to see family and neighbors in a beautiful setting," they said.

Buhl Day "can only be described as small-town America at its finest," Mrs. Emmett said.

"We need every one’s support," she added.

Buhl Day is held on Labor Day every year. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the event that was reborn as a community day of celebration and honor of the Buhls.

The day starts with a 5K race, a parade and features events during the day for all ages. Food, games, and music highlight the afternoon, and a fireworks display marks the conclusion of the day.

Anyone wanting to donate to this fund can mail their contribution to the Buhl Day Committee, in care of James B. and Joyce Winner, 1469 McDowell Street, Sharon 16146.
