World’s stage comes to the North Side for Children’s Festival

Artists and performers from China, Belgium, Italy, Canada and Australia will perform at the 16th International Children’s Festival.

The festival will be held Wednesday through May 20 in West Park and Allegheny Center on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

Featured artists are:

  • Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats, which mix acrobatics with magic, Kung Fu, dance and comedy.

  • Hat Muziek Lod of Belgium performing "Anton," a fairy tale with live music and computer graphics.

  • Fondazione AIDA of Italy offering Oscar Wilde’s "The Happy Prince" with paper cut-outs, balloons and stand-up pictures.

  • Smythe and Saucier of Canada performing stunts, cycling, juggling and humor in "Circo Comedia."

  • Zeal Theatre of Australia offering the anti-violence play "The Stones."

    The United States also will be represented in the Double Dutch Divas of New York performing rope skipping, hip-hop and aerobics, and the John F. Kennedy Center’s production of "Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse."

    Between performances, visitors can enjoy a petting zoo, interactive games, arts projects, paddle boat rides, a puppet parade and other activities in West Park.

    Festival hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through May 18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19 and noon to 5 p.m. May 20.
