WHEATLAND

Tube mill worker burned

A summer worker at Wheatland Tube Co. was burned Sunday at the plant, workers and family members said.

Mike Kapusta, 2236 Homewood Drive, Hermitage, no age available, was injured at about 7:30 a.m. when he fell into molten galvanizing metal.

The recent graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System and flown to the burn unit of West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Family members said Kapusta suffered burns on 17 percent of his body; 7 percent of them were third degree.

Company spokesmen were out of the country and were not available for comment, a Wheatland Tube secretary said.

A West Penn spokesman said this morning the hospital was not permitted to release information about Kapusta.
