FARRELL

Cops say man lied about his ID, twice

A Warren, Ohio, man was arrested Friday on a warrant charging him with two counts of falsely identifying himself to police.

It was the second time he had given police a false name, Southwest Mercer County Regional police said Monday.

Richard Caffie, 38, was arrested at 3:25 p.m. at the Shenango Valley Regional Lock-Up, Farrell, where he was being held on other charges.

Caffie was stopped for driving with a broken side light at 1:27 a.m. June 29 in the 800 block of Wallis Avenue, Farrell, police said. He gave the name and address of someone from Howland, Ohio, and signed that name on two citations charging him with driving without a license or registration, police said.

Caffie gave the name and address again when he was arrested at 11:30 p.m. July 2 on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and false identification, police said.

In that case, Caffie was stealing about $400 in lumber from Jac's Kitchens and Counters, 700 Beechwood Ave., Farrell, police said. Caffie also had a straight shooter, which is typically used for smoking crack cocaine, police said.

Charges in the theft case were held for court Friday by District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage.

Caffie was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post a total of $7,500 bond.

His preliminary hearing on the false identification charges is set for 4 p.m. Friday.
