Board to vote on school levy

A 1-mill levy to buy computers and upgrade computer technology may be on the ballot in the fall after the school board votes on it at a special meeting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the high school.

The proposed five-year levy would generate about $100,000 annually for education technology.

According to the school treasurer's paperwork, that includes "but is not limited to computer hardware, equipment, materials and accessories, equipment used for 2-way radio or video and software."

The district's millage -- 45.1 mills -- includes another five-year, 1-mill levy from 1998 for renovating school buildings and grounds. That levy expires in 2002.

The owner of a home worth $100,000, which is assessed at 1/3 its market value, would pay an additional $35 a year if the levy is approved.

Directors will vote Thursday whether to submit the levy to the county auditor's office for certification of how much revenue it would raise for the school district.

An Aug. 15 vote would then be needed to put the levy on the ballot in November.
